We have a paid trash service available at the Ranch. I don’t use it as I’m told they don’t separate recycle from garbage, it all goes in landfill. I believe they charge $29/month. Same company operates the landfill. They have big recycle bins on premises that used to be free to drop off. They now charge you to leave recyclable material.

My trash, at the ranch, is about 80% recycle / 20% garbage. I just take it all up, to our Richmond house, about once per month. I separate out vegetable waste and put out in pasture for birds. Non-vegetable food waste goes to location beside one of our ponds for the raccoons. That keeps them away from house and buildings.

40°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 52° today. 71° tomorrow, and near 80° for Thursday. Of course, the bottom falls out again for the weekend, but warms up again next week. I'd really like a warm weekend to get in some golf.

We have a paid weekly trash pickup at our place, contracted by the county. They say there is a two bag limit above the issued can, but they'll generally pick up just about anything within reason. Of course, we've also spent a small fortune with them in dumpster rentals over the last couple of years while cleaning out and remodeling. Another one coming this year when the roof is replaced.

Randy, your insane amount of vehicles inspired me to start another thread over in the Transportation forum. Seems you're not the only one who's owned a lot of cars.

Good morning everyone.

Mike- I am happy to read that your wife is starting to feel well enough to start living and being and feeling productive again despite her pain and exhaustion. Like you posted one step at a time. Thanks for sharing.

1/2" of snow fell here this AM and melted. It is still snowing here and melting. Alternating wet and dry days around here through and into the weekend.

I too am one of those primitive trash haulers. We are charged $1 a standard garbage bag and $2 for a 33G bag for non-recyclable garbage and $0 for recyclable materials. We run less than $1/week on garbage. We've been recycling for many years. The "Big Issue" at the "transfer station" now is the appraised "charge" for truly recyclable stuff like working hand tools, kitchen appliances, etc. I've seen and heard of some great "floor shows" of unhappy recyclers. The "Dump Run" is one of my few social outlets and news and weather services.

A boring day planned for today.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

Have a good one everyone.

Good morning to all! Low went only to 48, going up to near 70! No wind! WooHoo! Until tomorrow .....10% chance of a shower on Thursday. That, considering our geographical diversity, results in a 10" rainfall. (One drop about every 10 inches, just one raindrop, no more)

I have been sleeping like a baby! Sleep is wonderful! This morning the knee was very stiff, but I think less painful. Maybe over the hump... I was starting to be discouraged. Go to the Doc's tommorow, we'll see what they say, probably this is just all of the healing. I think it's just me expecting too much...you know, put the new part on the engine...works better than before.

Drew, it has to bring out a really good feeling when you see the fruits of your labor helping out others in need. If we could all be like you, the world would be a better place.

Jay, thanks for sharing your experiences with knee rehab. I'm behaving and letting the healing process take its course. (I just wish it would speed up a little):D

I was always amazed at how much trash a family generated. We now buy minimal prepackaged food, but there is still a small amount of trash. When the kids were here...holy cow...the amount of trash from junk food, tangible goods, prepackaged food...the list goes on and on...we were having 4-5 30gal bags a week!

The wifey and I have a new project / experiment. Planting tree seeds. We are attempting germination of 4 species of pines, 3 species of deciduous trees, and a couple of shrub type. (All in addition to the veggies started). We'll see how it works out. Maybe I found my new calling in life:eek:

Everyone have a great day, be safe, and enjoy what the day brings you.

Ted- Thanks. It's not easy "doing nothing." It took me a couple of injuries to learn that "doing nothing" was in my own best interests. The other challenge for those "care giver" types of individuals is to accept becoming a "care receiver" themselves. Care givers are not "wired" for accepting care... nope, nada, no way, no can do.........

I thought a few "pet" semi-dwarf fruit trees would be pretty easy. A pear tree came with the property. My FIL gifted me 6 apples, 2 quince, and 2 peach trees. My wife cried the first time I pruned the trees. She flipped out when she came home one day and found me up in the pear tree flying on steroids, O2 tank strapped on my back, and cutting limbs with my 14" Stihl chainsaw. I/We still have the pear, apple trees and one dying peach tree. The surviving peach tree has been dying for 30 years producing better now than ever before. The two rogue "wild"(?) apples hidden in our property's treeline consistently outproduce our pet trees. The wild blueberry bushes outproduce my pet blue berry bushes as well. I feed the resident wildlife well.;)

A little more on the garbage service here. The cans are stamped "Zero waste", and they mean it. It all goes to a transfer station where it is sorted, so my one grocery bag of garbage a week shares the 30 gallon can with broken down cardboard and whatever waste comes out of the shop. Sometimes it's so little I don't even bother putting the can out. And most times the cardboard from Amazon and other mail order outfits fills up most of the can! That said, all the glass and aluminum containers go into 30 gallon garbage cans, and when the two of them are full they go to a recycling center that benefits developmentally disabled people (they staff the station as well). That relieves me of sorting the various glass colors, and gives them a hand up at the same time.

Recovering from surgical procedures is an acquired skill, at least it was in my case. I'm skeptical of what doctors say unless I can verify it from my own research, and I generally don't like being told what to do. But after experiencing some setbacks from overachieving healing efforts, I've learned to listen to my body and mostly follow doctor's orders. Took a while to learn that they want you healed as fast as possible, just like you do. So they'll generally recommend what they've seen work over and over in the past, which is way more to go on than what I could ever pick up from googling. Generally that means taking the meds at the prescribed times and amounts, obeying any physical activity limits, and doing only those exercises and/or physical therapy that is recommended. Staying entertained can be challenging, but phone calls to catch up with friends, DVDs from NetFlix, and a few good books really help. And sleep. Lots of sleep, especially if the recovery involves pain. Hang in there, Ted, you'll get over this and still have plenty of time before winter comes around again to get your building project under roof.

We have a facility now like RNG, that sorts all the trash/garbage. You don’t even have to separate large metal or wood, food, plastic, doesn’t matter. No more recycle containers.

   / Good morning!!!! #74,289
Randy- Nice "wheels." I am waiting for you to really "pimp" your car out:cool:

RNG- We used to have to sort out plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper separately for recycling. Now everything goes in a compactor. I have no clue how it's sorted once compacted?

68°F and 1.13 inches rain last 24 hours. Still coming down.

Trip to PO this morning and nothing yet planned beyond. Originally was planning major dump run, but not in the rain. Looking to be an inside day.

Prayers for all

Be safe
Have a great day

Don, our garbage service is wife and I loading in into vehicle and driving to the transfer station. We have two close, about 5 miles either direction, each only open 3 days/week. Today I had planned on making a run, crushing a bunch of cardboard. I’ll wait for a drier day.

   / Good morning!!!! #74,295
Our garbage transfer station is free, open 7 days a week except holidays and takes tires, motor oil, batteries, old propane tanks, lumber, furniture, appliances, recyclables, cardboard, gives away free mulch dumped by the county after work crews, and has a covered storage area if you have something worth giving away rather than trashing, including books, magazines, toys, furniture, etc. It's on the way to town, so stop once or twice a week.

52 and cloudy. Sure doesn’t feel like 52. Warmer rest of week.

Just got back from surgery center. Youngest son lost an ear tube that was put in about 2 months ago so they had to redo them. He now has titanium jewelry. They also removed his adenoids. Saying they were enlarged. Your adenoids sit in your throat at the point where your sinuses and ears drain into your throat and enlarged adenoids can block those drains. The one tube that stayed in was only working partially. So that was replaced and also location was moved. Doctor says this is rare but not uncommon.
Can’t tell he had anything done this morning. Other than he was grumpy till we fed him. Now he’s up and onery as ever.

Rip. Good news on wife’s recovery.

We pay for garbage pickup. $520/year for a 4 yard dumpster weekly pickup. Takes care of household and business trash. We’ll fill it maybe once a month some weeks just 2 or 3 bags.

LS. Good news on recovery.

We have trash pickup, about 1/2 mile from house, daughter drops 32gallon can on her way to work, picks up empty on way home. We never put out extra, but since we are the first address on our road with trash pickup, they like to put the extra on our bill, my wife has to call them and have it removed each time, even though there are notes in our file that it is never ours.

We save recycles and take that to transfer station when needed, lots of cardboard, which is the only thing that needs to be separated. Apparently, the recycler charges much more for cardboard now so they don't want it mixed and have to pay higher price on all.

50s this week, frost in mornings, grass is greening day by day...

Only 15 vehicles in my 30 yr list, including 4 i have now.

I noticed large reduction in trash with kids gone, big reduction in electric usage also.

Forgot to add. We have free day every Wednesday at the county dump. Just have to show a drivers license with an address in the county. Has to be household garbage and tarped upon arrival. One town has recycling but last I heard it was costing the town money. Nobody else messes with it. Now there are local businesses that deal in scrap metal.
Also have one week a year that is tire amnesty. At county road department.

Also have 2 different days for rinse and return. This is a program for chemical jugs. Discard lid, remove label, triple rinse and poke a hole in them.
