Got enough snow late afternoon yesterday to cover up all the areas that had melted down to bare ground. Need to sweep the snow off walkways. Having visitors today. Not much else planned.

Roy, you can't say you didn't get any use of your snowblower this year.

Randy, I had a 70 El Camino. Stock 305 auto. Used it to haul snowmobile and motorcycle to meets. Wife thought I should have kept the 68 Vette I sold to buy the El Camino. Kind of hard to carry the toy's with a Vette.

Buckeye, finding the bridge will a little more difficult.

Good morning! 38˚ partly sunny but it's still dark outside, I hate DST. It is heading to the mid 60's this afternoon and this the coldest day in the 10 day forecast. The mesquite are trying to pop out but the little green nubs are unsure. They got burned last year when a late freeze zapped them. The mesquite are accurate 90% of the time but the native pecan trees are hitting 99% on predicting the last freeze of the year.
Buckeye the bridge not is visible it is under a canopy of trees on the far N/N/W side of the property according to the compass.
Yesterday I found and painted the survey irons on the corners of our property and 30 property line markers in-between.

Seriously though, why would anyone let a machine roam around at the top of stairs ? All too easy for one of the human occupants to unexpectedly trip over and come to grief themselves.

Even more alarming, Eric, is that there's an increasing trend to treat their kids the same way, letting them "free range" with no discipline or even caution for their welfare. The Neato 'bots rely on a magnetic tape owners are supposed to deploy to keep them out of places they shouldn't be allowed to go, but there are many reports of the robots ignoring the tapes, and even dragging them around. Some of the Neato robots have cliff sensors, but apparently they don't work the same way as those from iRobot, as I haven't read of any that refused to clean dark colored surfaces.:confused2:

Good trip over to the skin doc yesterday, and then to the nearby Costco, Wegman's and Cabela's. Went into Costco just to pick up a $5 prescription and came out $180 poorer.

I don't go into Cabela's often, since we have a much better local competitor, Green Top Sporting Goods, but am often disappointed at Cabela's...I had always heard such great things about them. Since we also have a much bigger Bass Pro, not sure what they will do with the Cabela's now that Bass Pro bought them. Did Cabela's get out of the tractor business? They have never had any at this store...just boats and ATVs.

Glad I went for a hike when we got home, because I caught the peak of the snow, and it stopped soon after I got back...probably the last of the year, right Buppies?

what a surprise when the sun came up. Raingauge shows over an inch of rain
and clearly the last part of it was snow. Snow and ice on the back deck. It will all melt momentarily but
most demotivating for going outside. Into the warm plant room I go, getting ready to start a tray of corn.

Everything I read says to separate all these varieties I'm planting but since there is no way to do that, what
will be will be. I only have little amounts of five varieties and one pound each of Silverqueen and Peach's n Cream.
The latter two are coated in red insecticide.

Good Morning!!!! 59F @ 5:15AM. Showers and thundershowers this morning, then overcast during the afternoon with occasional rain. High 56F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 100%. 1 to 2 inches of rain expected.

Picked up about a half inch of rain overnight with quite a bit more due in today. By the looks of the radar, it won't be steady, but bands of showers and thundershowers moving through off and on all day. Looks like our March Miracle has arrived, and will be around even into next week. Winds are gusting into the 30s, then will lull back into the teens. Lots of things banging and squeaking on the house, some I haven't heard before. Hope I can find a bit of dry weather after it's light to see what's going on up on the roof. The hummers'll be having to work hard docking with the feeders today, but will still have them empty again by early morning if they're not empty already.

Hope the docs can figure out what's going on with your mom, Ed. I found it very frustrating when my mom wasn't getting the medical attention she obviously needed when she'd be discharged to a so called convalescent care facility. It was almost as if they expected her to just keep on healing on her own without anyone looking after anything but basic needs. Took lots of calls to case workers and supervisors to change that.

Good progress on the old motorcycle yesterday. Got the exhaust system installed, and it's really starting to look like a motorcycle again. The screws for the terminal strip also arrived allowing me to finally finish the rear fender installation. It's really neat how the back of the fender is hinged so it can swing up and out of the way, allowing the rear wheel to just roll into place. Stopped short of installing the axel, though, as the new stainless steel replacement had threads on one end with no crack stopping groove where the threads terminated. Years ago on an old Norton, I had another stainless axel fail at that point, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. May end up changing the profile, once I get the lathe freed up, but right now it's got a four foot piece of pipe setup in it, waiting on the mechanic to call me with a dimension to which the OD will be turned. The saga continues. On the brighter side, I was able to snag some nice lengths of steel round stock drops while I was at the steel suppliers picking up the pipe. Prices were still at fifty cents a pound, surprising with scrap prices being so low.

(Don't go out ramming around during the storm. Ramming around has been looked down about by parents and driving instructors for years. Ramming around has been known to cause dents, dings, and wicked damage to the front and back end of your auto and can lead to being hung up in drifts left by snowplows and that old guy on Buck Street who snowblows directly into the street. Yes, we have spoken to him and he told us to-and I quote- "Jam it, I have been doing this since before you were in Jr. High School, Mister. Man." Snow totals could cause back pain and incessant whining from family members).

Don't be silly and out to try to purchase the following items before the storm- Shovels, salt and sand, ice scrapers, and liquor. We guarantee the shelves have been cleared by those people who came here to write a book and raise their families in a quiet, low crime area. We are sure someone told them to wait until June, but like any "outtastatah," they wouldn't listen.

Be careful, check on your neighbors who have difficulty with dealing in large amounts of snow.

Send your kids over to help with clearing snow from the homes of shut-ins and those with limited mobility. This is why you had children in the first place. Tell them it's fun and don't let them back in until it's done.

This storm should be no problem if you use good common sense, stay off the roads if it is not absolutely necessary, and you dont eat too many brownies made your neighbor who is a "crafter" and lives in the Yurt at the end of the unplowed right-of-way.

It's Maine. Deal with it.

I need to go out today and find a mobile welder. I have a few projects for him/her.

I got both game cameras reset and are up outside.

My pain management program seems to be working, although I don't much care for the feeling anymore, (when I was a young gaffer many moons [40 years] ago I loved a 'body stone', not so much now). I slept all night and just got up about a hour ago.

Kids are now being put to work with the Smart Splitter:


This is actually a great illustration of the law of comparative advantage and social division of labor. I have an absolute advantage over my kids in just about anything right now, including splitting wood. Yet they have a comparative advantage in splitting wood versus designing websites. I look forward to next fall/winter when I can be in my office in front of 3 computer screens coding away while they split. Given their size, and the way the Smart Splitter is designed so the splitting wedge doesn't go all the way down, I'm going to pour a concrete pad with a pipe in it for the smart splitter, so it will be more on their level.
