Good morning!!!!

With the above from The Weather Company I would take a wait and see attitude and if I were a betting man think cold for next two to three weeks even in Ga and SC. Every three or four days low pressure from Canada zipping south to combine with lows coming up the coast of the east multile events culminating in something big at the end of the period. Similar to what he said but I do not see the warmth in March. Still on the cool side and somewhat drier than normal. April may give us some nice rain.

The MJO is one of several scientific tools used to forecast the weather. The NAO and AO have not been supportive of large snow storms for the midAtlantic except along the coast, hence the reason a lot of us are in a drought. In short one predictor cannot be used without considering the others.

RNG, once you get that VW-aru running you'll have to make a cross country trip and visit each of us so we can see it. If you come here first, and tow your BMW, I wash and wax it while you travel...don't forget to leave the keys.

Funny you should mention a trip, Wng. I have some family business still to do in Ohio, and I'd like to get down into the Tex-Mex territories to look for Western theme upholstery cloth for the van. Never seen the Florida Keys, either, so I'm thinking a loop out and back would be the thing to do. But let's not get carried away just yet; the van's not going anywhere with the transaxle laying on the bench!

Thanks! I'm going to start looking for some this weekend. I haven't had a good Cuban cigar in a couple years, so I might just make a field trip out of this and take the short trip across the border and get some chains while I'm there if I can find some. :)

Use the powers of the Inter web first and line up a set, then a quicky trip. I don't know the SS Marie area so I don't know where the reserves are that sell smokes.

I just don't think the Accurite is accurate at all. Screen looks nice...
yeah, one or two degrees, fine. 5 degrees off? not so hot...

It does have the best color screen but on mine the solar circulating fan is the the problem. Last week I took it apart and clean out the spider webs so the little solar fan would start moving again and I noticed I would have to give it a push everytime to get it going. I just ignore the temperature when the the unit is in the sun.

Kyle I hope your daughter gets to feeling better. What clinic do you use on weekends?

Raining all around but not here yet. Need to run by the church and supervise some hurricane Harvey damage repairs.

1 searching for a high of 14. Wind WNW 15 mph. More snow on the way for this afternoon. Another 4" and a couple of inches overnight. I will plow on Sunday, I think. Unless we really get dumped on.
Every day that goes by is one day closer to my getting a BH.

Speaking of chains, Nov. 2016 I slipped off the road and into the neighbours' ditch. 3 out of 4 tires on the ground and the right front in the air. Cost me $80.oo to get out via a tow truck. A thousand dollars for 2 sets of chains ( chained them all up) and I haven't been stuck in the ditch since. I've been through them a few times but never stuck.

daugen; I get muscle cramps often. I drink a half a can of club soda mixed into a 1/2 a can of orange juice every evening. That seems to help.
I try to avoid pills of any sort. They have too many 'side affects' and all the quacks do is prescribe another pill to counter the side affects of the first one. They are a never ending merry-go-round that I am NOT going to get sucked into.

Einthewoods, I bought mine from canadianchains.com they are in B.C. and have free shipping to Canadian addresses. I don't know about U.S. addresses. You might try Flying J truck stops, they sell chains, too. I think they sell Quality chains.

Listed chores for today: none that I am going to tackle. Might have to go to town, but no one said anything last night about a town run.

Happy Saturday all, stay safe

Good Morning!!!! 69F@ 5:15AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 76F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.

The Pacific high just keeps building and the temperatures here keep climbing. Almost seventy degrees here and the sun's not even up yet!

I dunno, Drew. Not sure I've ever seen such a long winded way for a weatherman to say what the weather's gonna do.:confused2:

Davis makes a big deal about where to place their weather stations. Too close to the house or trees and it'll be shielded from wind and rain, resulting in inaccurate counts. I think they want it in the sun, too, for the photometer to work (obviously), but also the temperature sensor housings are on the bottom and make their own shade. The gripes I've seen coming from Accurite owners have been more centered on lack of reliability, not accuracy. But like anything else, a quick Google search with the make and model number should turn up problems that lots of people are having, and probably ways to fix them, too.

Hope your little angel feels better real soon, Kyle. There are still a lot of bugs goin' around, some of 'em pretty nasty for youngerters. Hope you can get her in to see a doctor this morning and everything checks out OK.

Yesterday the alarm panel started beeping, and when I checked status, it was complaining about a "tamper fault" in the garage smoke detector. So I pulled it off the ceiling (gosh, that's a long way up there!) and took it apart to clean it. As soon as I took the cover off the smoke sensor, the darn thing went off, and next thing you know the phone was ringing asking if everything was OK. Sure, everything's fine, I just missed the part in the service instructions to remove the batteries first.:ashamed:

Got an email from what sounded like an irritated insurance broker yesterday. She'd called earlier asking about the quote she'd given me, and I'd responded with an email letting her know I was still shopping. She went off, saying I was going to "lock up the market" with having other agents getting quotes from the same companies. I think that's a big over reaction since A) only one of the two dozen or so companies I've checked with so far would even agree to insure the property, and B) the other broker (there's only one) was provided with a list of companies I'd already tried. Seems like if she's gonna be such a PITA before I even have a policy through her, I sure don't want to have to do business with her.

The Kindling Cracker I ordered a couple weeks ago showed up yesterday, so I decided to give it a try on some overly large pieces that were in the kindling box. Works pretty good on the hard, very dry oak. The way it's built makes it almost impossible to get either fingers or hammer near the splitting wedge, and the construction seems robust enough to take a lot of hammering. And if I can find or cut the right size round to mount it to, I'll be able to sit in a chair while I'm using it. One of Dale Carnegie's axioms was "Never do standing up what you can do sitting down", and I'm happy to see it applies here.:D

Managed to get the front brake shoes mounted and the front wheel installed back on the old motorcycle yesterday, and the handlebar parts should be back from the plater today. Once they get here, I can hook up the brake cable and see how well I can get the shoes to seat. Right now they're rubbing over half the circumference of the drum, but I'm hoping working the lever a few times will get the shoes to settle out on the cams and posts and they'll apply more evenly. The fronts are state-of-the-art for their time, but the dual leading link setup can be a PITA to adjust correctly. Sure makes me appreciate the simple operation of modern hydraulic brakes, even if they can be a bit messy at times.

Also started fitting the fuel tank, checking to make sure that the new electronics mounted under it don't interfere with anything. I think I'm going to re-make the mounting plate to move the rectifier unit more to one side, as the cooling fins on it are rubbing on the inside surface of the tank. Something of a setback, but the old one can be a pattern for the new one, and there are a few things I'll do differently to improve the result anyway...

But all that'll have to wait 'till Monday. My VW bus/BMW air cooled motorcycle buddies are meeting down in the Sacramento River Delta for a campout tonight, and I'm bringin' a slab of ribs I smoked yesterday to share.:licking: There'll be time to catch up on what everyone's been doing over the winter, and hear plans for the coming spring and summer.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

The pattern as discussed and that I have babbled about previously supports the notion of developing weather systems "training" over the Pacific NW and W and as driven by the jet stream track across the CONUS and then up the east CONUS coast. This could support coastal re-development into Miller A or even Miller B type coastal storms and mixed rain/snow events. It all depends on blocking patterns over the Atlantic Ocean, systems' tracks, systems phasing, and timing

"..... soul crushing volatility? Someone likes to read their prose...." as requoted by Daugen. Awesome. That's better than the "anomalous" and similar descriptors the NWS uses.

I see a few more closet weather geeks have "come out" . WGA meeting should be a full house next week.

I woke up this AM and found that my Oregon weather station temperature/hydrometer sending unit has finally bound (after 3 - 4 days) to the receiving monitor  and was reading 0F. I checked this reading against all the nearby weather stations with Intellicast, Accuweather, and WeatherUnderground and was consistent with those local readings. Today's high temperature may reach the low 20F's ; windchills are now -0F and will rise into the single digits later today. Tomorrow will be a mixed precipitation event, but mostly snow for western MA. Looks like snow to rain for Bradley International Airport.

Ed- Thanks for the med information on Mom. 40mgs of Prednisone is a pretty strong dose for anyone at any age. I am glad she is on a downward taper. Good luck.

Randy- Lacrosse weather stations have been around for years. They appear to be a pretty decent PWS. I am sorry to read that you too are on Prednisone.

RNG- Thanks for the weather station opinions.

Kyle- I hope that your daughter recovers quickly.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

I hope that everyone has a decent day.
