Good Morning!!!! 69F@ 5:15AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 76F. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph.
The Pacific high just keeps building and the temperatures here keep climbing. Almost seventy degrees here and the sun's not even up yet!
I dunno, Drew. Not sure I've ever seen such a long winded way for a weatherman to say what the weather's gonna do.:confused2:
Davis makes a big deal about where to place their weather stations. Too close to the house or trees and it'll be shielded from wind and rain, resulting in inaccurate counts. I think they want it in the sun, too, for the photometer to work (obviously), but also the temperature sensor housings are on the bottom and make their own shade. The gripes I've seen coming from Accurite owners have been more centered on lack of reliability, not accuracy. But like anything else, a quick Google search with the make and model number should turn up problems that lots of people are having, and probably ways to fix them, too.
Hope your little angel feels better real soon, Kyle. There are still a lot of bugs goin' around, some of 'em pretty nasty for youngerters. Hope you can get her in to see a doctor this morning and everything checks out OK.
Yesterday the alarm panel started beeping, and when I checked status, it was complaining about a "tamper fault" in the garage smoke detector. So I pulled it off the ceiling (gosh, that's a long way up there!) and took it apart to clean it. As soon as I took the cover off the smoke sensor, the darn thing went off, and next thing you know the phone was ringing asking if everything was OK. Sure, everything's fine, I just missed the part in the service instructions to remove the batteries first.:ashamed:
Got an email from what sounded like an irritated insurance broker yesterday. She'd called earlier asking about the quote she'd given me, and I'd responded with an email letting her know I was still shopping. She went off, saying I was going to "lock up the market" with having other agents getting quotes from the same companies. I think that's a big over reaction since A) only one of the two dozen or so companies I've checked with so far would even agree to insure the property, and B) the other broker (there's only one) was provided with a list of companies I'd already tried. Seems like if she's gonna be such a PITA before I even have a policy through her, I sure don't want to have to do business with her.
The Kindling Cracker I ordered a couple weeks ago showed up yesterday, so I decided to give it a try on some overly large pieces that were in the kindling box. Works pretty good on the hard, very dry oak. The way it's built makes it almost impossible to get either fingers or hammer near the splitting wedge, and the construction seems robust enough to take a lot of hammering. And if I can find or cut the right size round to mount it to, I'll be able to sit in a chair while I'm using it. One of Dale Carnegie's axioms was "Never do standing up what you can do sitting down", and I'm happy to see it applies here.
Managed to get the front brake shoes mounted and the front wheel installed back on the old motorcycle yesterday, and the handlebar parts should be back from the plater today. Once they get here, I can hook up the brake cable and see how well I can get the shoes to seat. Right now they're rubbing over half the circumference of the drum, but I'm hoping working the lever a few times will get the shoes to settle out on the cams and posts and they'll apply more evenly. The fronts are state-of-the-art for their time, but the dual leading link setup can be a PITA to adjust correctly. Sure makes me appreciate the simple operation of modern hydraulic brakes, even if they can be a bit messy at times.
Also started fitting the fuel tank, checking to make sure that the new electronics mounted under it don't interfere with anything. I think I'm going to re-make the mounting plate to move the rectifier unit more to one side, as the cooling fins on it are rubbing on the inside surface of the tank. Something of a setback, but the old one can be a pattern for the new one, and there are a few things I'll do differently to improve the result anyway...
But all that'll have to wait 'till Monday. My VW bus/BMW air cooled motorcycle buddies are meeting down in the Sacramento River Delta for a campout tonight, and I'm bringin' a slab of ribs I smoked yesterday to share.:licking: There'll be time to catch up on what everyone's been doing over the winter, and hear plans for the coming spring and summer.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
