Bird- Thank you for the update. It may have taken longer than expected, but the procedure was reportedly successful. I wish you and your wife well.

Don- More pictures; old f@rt$ like pictures.

The missing pics today. I thought I sent these from my iPhone but I guess I did not hit the last reply.
I wasn’t goofing off after lunch. Hydraulic fluid was running from a cluster of hoses under the BH. I finally got the one off with the leak and took it to town for a replacement.
Installed it and checked for leaks and it was still leaking but another hose. So did another repeat and got it put back together about 5pm.
The lost pics: IMG_1324.JPGIMG_1327.JPGIMG_1328.JPG

Another trip to town in the morning for Diesel, then dig day two starts. Have popcorn ready about 10:am.

Don- Awesome. Thanks for sharing. So what is going in the hole?

Probably the stump. The more I dig the bigger it gets. It's like an iceberg. I think once I get it loose I may have a "What now? moment, but I won't think about that now, I just want to get it loose, I'll figure the rest later. Maybe I'll just dig a long hole, push it over on it side in the hole and bury it. There is petrified wood in the area, maybe it will just turn into a big rock.

Ron, there is a little molecule of memory floating around and I can't quite verify it. You were with me the last time the BH was taken off. Was it leaking that day?

And it’s on.
Hour one.
Before pic.
Remove box blade.
Carefully remove wife’s flowers.

14’ circumference, 10’ tall.

Don, have you considered a chain around stump, as high as you can get, and giving it a pull with your tractor?

I had a dead tree that snapped off about 6’ above the ground. About 2 years later I gave it a push, with big tractor, at the top and it came right over.

Don, I can only chuckle along, knowing that just getting it mounted and leak free is way over half the battle. You had it on one time I came out, before you built your house. You had dug a deeeep trench to analyze the soil depths.

My sickle bar cutter is a cantankerous beeeeotch. It needs a couple of days of maintenance and probably $fortyeleven dollars worth of parts... It is so tough to get it mounted. Makes me want to curse. Foggedaboutit if it's 100F outside.

Where are you getting your hydraulic hoses made?

Rip, wow oh wow, your wife has been through a lot. I used to make neck and spine implants for over 6 years. More prayers for her pain to subside and to get back to some sense of normalcy.

BEF and Ron, glad to hear of better reports. Get some sleep.

I've laid off the ibuprofen for my back since Monday. Someone said to keep taking it to help with inflammation. I only like to take it if I'm in pain. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I'd say I'm up to maybe 75% capacity.

Prayers for Topps and the rest of youz too!

Good evening all. 44F for the start, clear sky moderate breeze. High temp was 58F, clear sky, wind gust only 25 or so :D. This morning worked on organized bike ride plans, so far 11 days and 750 miles registered. Still have a 5 day trip (250 miles, consecutive to 8 day trip) to register when registration opens, and potential for some 1 day rides. This afternoon chainsawed 2 little trees with yesterday's work, I still have a lot to learn :ashamed:. Then a trip to recycle area and a milk run.

Good news on the Dr fronts prayers offered for all

Kyle if you are interested I can ask my Mom if she want to sell Dads sickle bar cutter, he has several blade bars hanging on the wall with it also. I think it's a JD maybe 50 years old but kept in the shed. I think I saw the owners manual on his book shelf. He kept it in good shape till the tractor he has it on stopped running.

I got the hydraulic hoses made in Giddings that shop down the street from Goodson's past the library on the same side of the street as the library. Can't remember the name. They are fast (4 min.) and each hose was $20.

My sickle is a JD 350, no Pittman stick. It is 9' long. I primarily use it to trim the pond banks as it can be angled downward. I need to take it to Drew or RNG for a makeover. (cept they might paint it orange), LOL.

I’m going to bed, but I have a dynamite/stump story from when I was about 17. I’ll post it tomorrow.

   / Good morning!!!! #69,633
Speaking of dynamite, friends neighbor was trying to dig up a rock. Rock was too big, so he got some dynamite, drilled hole in rock, blew up the rock. One chunk of rock came down right through the house roof.

29 right now...going to drop quite a bit with the high being 18 today. We got a couple inches of snow yesterday, then a bit more last night. Light snow is coming down as I type this, in fact...maybe another inch or so today, before it's all said and done.

Keep at it Don, some of us leave such sheltered lives this is the best entertainment we've seen in a long while. Next time, can you set up a live webcam too ?

You could take the bark off with an axe just below soil level, then cut through the clean wood with a chainsaw - then again going at it with a tractor is much more in keeping with the spirit of this forum

The water standing in puddles outside is still liquid. Until I looked at the thermometer that was the only clue that we are above freezing. It seems much colder thanks to a cruel wind that instantly had the same effect on both me and the dog. A day of sunshine is promised so it shouldn't be too bad outside as long as I keep to the south side of the buildings.

CWB, I have paperwork that lets me reload and shoot smokeless powders, but to buy and keep black powder at home I would need to fill in yet another form and apply for a "Certificate to Acquire and Keep Explosives". Maybe I will do that one day, meanwhile please can you shoot a few rounds, then remind me how good it is to feel black powder's steady burn push into your shoulder and fill the air will a dense cloud of that special perfume ? One day electronics could evolve so that TBN posts also suppport a "Smell this" feature, which wold be great for this - though I guess other uses would get a few of us banned too.

Would your harrow be from William Hackett Chain Products Drew ? There is an old saying in the area I come from - if something doesn't quite fit, a rough and ready fix is to , "Hack it and Smack it" (cut/file, then hit it with a hammer). Maybe that originated from harrowing clods of soil ?

Randy, looking forward to your dynamite story

Good morning all, 36 now with a high today of 28 and a low tonight of 14. The mountains did it again, we got a very light dusting of snow. Could see the radar pic part and go around us. Piddled at making a wooden spoon yesterday, waiting for the gouge to be delivered so I can do the bowl. Wife likes to cook with them. My dad had a problem with dynamite, his BP would drop very low so when we widened the driveway, 9/10 mi long, I got the job of powder monkey even though I was about 6. Dad would dig the holes under the stumps and tell me how much dynamite to bundle together and I would put it under the stump and cover it with a little dirt and dad would finish. Blew one stump and it just rose up in the ground and settled back in the hole and dad said we should have put two more sticks under that one. I did and when we blew it it flew 50 yards down through the woods.

Bird, praying Lady Bird is doing well.

Dab, mini ex. my thought exactly.

Kyle, Prayers sent.

Buckeye, Prayers sent your way too.

Rip, prayers sent.

Have a great day. Ed

38 and rain stopped. According to radar, the snow is about a mile north, but not much. Should only go up 4 degrees today and get very windy. Groundhogs will be cold today.

Don, great project...sorry Ron broke your BH :). Sounds like the vote is going towards a dynamite video. Randy, better wait to tell your story until after Don blows it up. Don, ignore BEF's rock story. Can one even buy dynamite any more? I've heard of folks blowing up beaver dams with it, but not recently.

Rip, sounds like your wife had a factory built in her back...hope she gets back to a happy life, she's sure paid her dues.

Prayers for the gang and wives.

My wife bought a storage cabinet so today is assemble-it-day, and watch for backhoe updates from Texas.
