51 degrees this morning, going for a high of 58; overcast and cool with badly needed rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. We're hoping!

I would take your Mom too a Best Buy and try different pads and pc’s.
That's exactly what I need to do. But first I need to go and scout it out to get it down to two devices, I don't want to overwhelm her.

44°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 52° again today. Some moderate thunder storms moved through the area last night. Wish we'd had some of this rain earlier in the year.

Happy (belated) Birthday to Mrs. Gas.

My Mother was never interested in technology devices. She never wanted a cell phone or a computer. My Wife's Grandmother was the same way. When my oldest stepson was deployed in Iraq and Kuwait, my Wife would text back and forth with him. Her Grandmother was just dumbfounded at the idea of instant written communication with someone halfway around the world, even though she sat there and watched it happen.

Eric's advice about one thing at a time is definitely sage advice.

The low this morning was 15*, yesterday's high was 36*. We got about 3 more inches of snow yesterday. Today's going to be cloudy this morning with some sun this afternoon. It's going to be in the high 30's today.

Made it out yesterday but didn't see anything not even a deer. Will try again later today when it warms up. Not sure what the plan is for today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Hey, it's good advice for me too....:D

trailered little Massey to dealer, they will adjust hydro trans so it doesn't slowly creep backwards.
They were quite impressed with my renovation, cow's ear to silk purse...

rain is still on other side of state, won't be here for awhile so gives me time to get some things done outside.
One of which is lugging the big step ladder over to the rv so I can blow the dust/bugs off the top of the slideouts so I can shut it all down
for the winter. I should sell this thing, really don't use it and without a lady in my life, not likely to head off alone. Didn't enjoy that when I did it. Then I lug the stepladder up to the house and change out several flood lights to LEDs. Then I guess I will have earned my lunch...;)

68°F and just .01 inches rain.

Toilet repair went well. Managed to do so without a major mess. Kudos from wife.

Off to Hilo for annual eye doc visit. Then off to Walmart to order new glasses. Current ones have some scratches but didn’t want to replace until I got prescription checked.

Be safe
Have a great day.

Don, whatever device you get, consider showing your mum how to do just one thing well first, as she may find it confusing to take it all in at once and then be reluctant to use it. You can then show her a little more each time you visit and build up her confidence in trying new things.

Great advice
With my MIL, it was FaceTime.
Even though Don’s Mom isn’t very far away, the ability to see her and her him is awesome.

Thanks again folks, last night was the first night alone, I was doing pretty well, then Diamond Rio’s One More Day came on. But I’ll get there, I’m not the first, nor will I be the last.

Wow, turning colder by the hour, not ready for this weather! Rain is moving in later today, low 20’s by Saturday.

Shop cleanup cut short last night due to low fuel in tractor (using forks and pallet to lift items up to loft). It showed 3/8 tank Sunday, but only 1/8 last night with fuel low warning light lit. I really did not want to run it out of fuel so we stopped after one load. We have a few more loads to go and then we can put the travel trailer away. We really want to get it done tonight as another storm is forecast for tomorrow..

20F this morning, not as cold as forecast. Staying cold likely for next week or more..

That's exactly what I need to do. But first I need to go and scout it out to get it down to two devices, I don't want to overwhelm her.

You might even want to set her down in front of one of your computers and show her how the web and email works, just so she understands the concepts. That way when she's in the store, she'll have some reference base to use with the devices she sees there. The bigger screens and keyboards on the computers will make your little show-and-tell easier, but be careful you don't try to cover too much ground in one sitting.

With mom's boyfriend, I could tell he was interested in being able to look things up on the web, and in the quick communication of email (there was no instant messaging at the time), and he acted interested enough for me to purchase the computer for him. But even though he acted interested, or at least told me he was, he never touched it when I wasn't there. I don't know if he feigned interest so as not to hurt my feelings :confused2:, or he didn't want to appear stupid , or was too polite to just say "no", but after several attempts to sit down with him and take baby steps, he still wouldn't/couldn't bring himself to dive in.

On my visits to Apple stores I've been met with very knowledgeable staffers that were eager to answer my questions and didn't mind repeating the answers if I wasn't keeping up (never thought I'd be saying this, but youngsters these days always seem to talk so fast it comes out as one long blablabla). Apple may even have free classes in the stores that are tailored to teaching computer skills to older folks; check their web site for details.

OTOH, I've been met with some outstanding BS peddlers at BestBuy, so take what you hear there with a large grain of salt.

Either way, if you take her to a store she'll see the prices on the devices, and that is both good and bad. On the one hand, she'll learn it's a significant purchase, and not to be taken lightly, but on the other she may not feel the capabilities are worth the price to her, an easy conclusion since she really doesn't understand what those capabilities are. If she grew up during the Depression, as my parents and mom's boyfriend did, she may also be very careful with her money, and be very hesitant to spend it on something she doesn't understand.
