Got the service behind me, man that place was packed, she wasn’t just mine, the stories that were shared were beautiful. Topped it of with Carrie Underwood’s live “How Great Thou Art”. People I hadn’t seen in years, people I didn’t know, coming to me to tell me how much they would miss her. God better take good care of my baby until I get there!

Now, back to the world such as it is. Thank you all for the prayers and thoughts, I looked forward to them everyday. Now I will be here alone so I gotta get my act together.
Warm this morning, showers and turning cool by weeks end.

good to hear from you Randy and sounds like yesterday went as well as it could.
I can't imagine you got much sleep last night.
Just take it slow, we are all sending our good karma to you to make your day better.

warm day today, off early to arthritis doc where I will get lectured for not losing weight. Again...
Then back to paint ROPS on little Massey. I have work lights to install once the painting is done.

I got very lucky with that tractor yesterday, or let's say maybe the dealer did...mechanic only put the trans drain plug in finger tight, forgot to get a wrench and tighten it. So I saw a little leak on my nice concrete floor which I didn't expect, this has been a non leaker so far. Slow drip from plug, only a few turns holding it in. And I was about to go out and run it in the fields under heavy load for four hours. I bet that would have been a very expensive repair for the dealer, and I'd be out a tractor for months.

Good Morning! We are here for you Randy, prayers sent.

Ron, I Think I might have been a pacific (sp on purpose) once, but then I had a cousin incident. It's strange how cousins affect your life so. He was young working his way through college at a convince store and someone shot him in the head for a 6pac of beer. You can only be a pacific (sp) if everyone is. I change my line of work after that and always carried a gun. Oh, by the way, the guy that killed my cousin also went on to kill two other clerks later and finally ended up on death row and was executed. I guess he would have continued to kill people till this day if everyone was a pacific. Pacifics need protection. Off soapbox.

Sounds like a couple of neighbors that lived near the Church in Texas and took after the killer might have saved additional lives. It's good to have people that take action.

Pacifics need protection and we are here to protect you Drew
Thanks. There are a lot of us to protect. Amish, Mennonite, Quakers, Buddhists, etc etc.

I can't tell you how many times I've been called naïve. I'm not. This is a faith issue and I understand the risk.
I'm also not against guns; what I really want is a non lethal way of taking down these crazy shooters.

I mentioned this before...I asked in Meeting what if I'm in a movie and someone up front starts shooting, and the lady next to me pulls a revolver out of her purse and hands it to me, screaming Do Something! If someone was shooting, I would take him down. Nothing more than a rabid animal trying to hurt others. Would certainly try to wound instead of kill. That doesn't make me a very good pacifist and I have constant internal discussions on this. And having been a fireman, my instinct is to protect. Having grown up on a farm and having had to shoot two rabid animals, I have to admit I see the corollary here with people. Mental illness and guns are a bad combo.

Good Morning!!!! 49F @ 4:30AM. 10% Precip. / 0.00 in. AM Clouds/PM Sun. High 53F. Winds light and variable.

Two Mondays in a row where I really want to just pull the covers back over my head and hold the news of the world at bay for just a little while longer.

I wonder how many of these psycho shooters got their ideas from listening to the news coverage of previous shootings. When something like this happens, perhaps instead of being front page news reported in depth, it should only get a brief mention, and the person responsible should not be identified, the methods used should not be discussed at all. The way things are now, it's as though these madmen are engaged in some sort of insane competition to see who can go out in the biggest blaze of despicable horror. Certainly this is not a comprehensive solution, but I'd wager that the media coverage is a factor, and dealing with it will raise constitutional questions about censorship on a par with concerns over protecting second amendment rights.

Glad you found some solace in the service, Randy. Maybe it also helps to know we'll all be pulling for you in the months ahead.

Ah, and then there's the end of Daylight Savings Time. I've slowly been replacing my clocks with ones that reset themselves using the radio signal. When I got up yesterday, the two with old style analog dials showed the correct time, as did the computers. The others didn't reset themselves until last night, and of course the ones in the vehicles and appliances still need my attention to be accurate again. So yesterday I felt like I was in sort of a nether region where I had to think about what clock I was looking at and ask myself if what was telling me was accurate or not. But then the only time it really mattered is when I sat down to watch the evening news, and the broadcast I'd expected wasn't showing because the clock over the TV hadn't reset itself yet...

My original intent on the old BMW motorcycle was to keep it as period as possible so as to preserve the riding experience of days gone by, but the electrics of yesteryear weren't all that reliable. Nothing ruins a good time quicker than being stranded at the side of the road, but fortunately the aftermarket makes available more reliable parts to minimize that likelihood. Yesterday I opened a box containing a replacement for the old generator and magneto, a combination alternator and crank position triggered solid state ignition unit. It all hides under the front cover of the engine and fuel tank, so there shouldn't be much if any visual clue of the heart and brain transplant. That also means changing out all the old six volt bulbs, so I took some time to research twelve volt LED replacements. Suitable candidates were found on line, though I had to resort to an obscure operation in Jolly ol' England for the headlight bulb. A couple of clicks and even that was easy thanks to Paypal. The old parts, like the spokes I'm removing from the wheels, will go into a box in case the next caretaker feels differently about reviving a more authentic experience. Everything but the old tires that is, as they came from one of my friend's friend's old Honda, and weren't correct either. Period tires are available, but they're no better than what was to be had back in the day, and again I opted for improved function and safety over the original experience. Purists might call it sacrilege, and when it's their turn they're free to do as they please with such a machine.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Although your conscience may feel better about only wounding the shooter, in all likelihood you won't live long enough for it to matter. Experts on these sorts of situations contend that someone demented enough to perpetrate such events can only be stopped with lethal force. And from a practical standpoint, unless you happen to be very close, and have practiced extensively under conditions which simulate the stress present in such circumstances, you will be fortunate to hit the shooter with your pistol or revolver at all, let alone deftly disabling his shooting hand as is so frequently demonstrated in the old cowboy movies. Even if you were to do so, all you'd have accomplished is to focus the attention of the shooter onto yourself, at which point he would very likely change hands and end your life. If by some miracle you survived and the shooter did not, your life will be forever changed by the nightmare of court proceedings that would follow, including the lawsuit filed in civil court by the shooter's surviving family. He may have been dead wrong, but it'll cost you a fortune to prove it.:2cents:

Does anyone have elderly friends or relatives that are not computer/smartphone savvy but have a basic device - tablet, pad, or laptop. I'm looking for a device that my Mom can communicate via e-mail, news, weather and simple large icons, but very, very basic and preferably on sale on black Friday.

I just realized that yesterday was 8 years since the shootings at Ft Hood on 11/5/2009.

   / Good morning!!!! #64,191
I really hope all the folks he killed were not of one color. That adds a whole additional dimension to this tragedy.
I guess not enough died at Fort Hood to make this horrible top five list.

Of the 30 deadliest shootings in the US dating back to 1949, 18 have occurred in the last 10 years. Two of the five deadliest took place in just the last 35 days.

Oct. 1, 2017 — The Harvest Music Festival, 58 killed
June 12, 2016 — Pulse night club, 49 killed
April 16, 2007 — Virginia Tech, 32 killed
Dec. 14, 2012 — Sandy Hook, 27 killed
Nov. 5, 2017 — First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, 26 killed

The low this morning was 25*, yesterday's high was 43*. We did get another dusting of snow overnight, about 2 more inches. Today's going to be mostly cloudy with the high in the mid 30's.

Made it out yesterday to look for a elk, seen a few tracks. Didn't see much of anything not even a deer. Probably will go out this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Maybe a Chromebook? Comes on very quickly, not much on screen, you could make her own icons. If she can't use a mouse, obviously a touch screen one.

68°F and .45 inches rain last 24 hours
Still a bit overcast this morning. Will have to see how the day goes.

Have to replace the wax ring in master toilet. Not my favorite job but as I usually manage to get water all over during the removal phase.

Be safe
Have a great day

Any idea what's under the sticker? Some kind of accelerant no doubt, but what would cost $11.98 a shot?

No idea, didn’t look. Wax? The cut ins are both sides.

Don, I have an HP desktop and a high powered Dell Laptop but, use my iPad way more than the others.

Would this be a first time computing experience for your mom, Don? I ask because several years ago, before my mom's boyfriend started suffering from dementia, I bought him an Apple iMac, the all-in-one computer at the time. He just couldn't understand the user interface, how to use a mouse, and typing was a big hurdle, too. Those are skills that most of us take for granted, but for someone that grew up with paper and pencil and dial telephones, "it's too much button pushing", as Steve (boyfriend), would say.

I'm not familiar with the latest Windows versions, but if they or a Mac laptop could be configured so that only a few icons appear on the desktop from which she could launch a web browser, email reader, instant message client, etc. that could work very well for her. But you'd have to be her tech support, so be ready to answer her questions with patience and understanding.

I've had my iPad for almost a year, and have to confess I get frustrated almost every time I use it. Some things it does OK, like browsing the web, but there are times when I try to do something that is easy on a laptop and I just can't figure out the iPad way. Yet at the same time I don't seem to have the same problems on the iPhone. I had plans to travel with the iPad instead of a laptop, but now I think that would be a mistake. For me at least, the iPad hasn't been a very wise purchase, judging from the amount of use it gets.

Apple products rarely go on sale, and even the Black Friday deals offer only small discounts, or credits good only on other Apple products of limited usefulness that are way overpriced compared to what they sell for elsewhere.

Several inches of snow over the last couple days, staying cold, forecast says 15 tonight for low. Lots of traffic accidents (folks forget how to drive).. Got Dad's travel trailer put away in shop yesterday, have to move a bunch of stuff before we can put our own away for the winter. We went to move some stuff around last night and realized we don't have any empty pallets. Wife will try and pick one up somewhere this afternoon when she picks grand daughter up from pre school.. then we can finish putting things up in new loft and put our trailer away.

45°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 52° today. Had some severe storms roll through our area yesterday afternoon, but no damage at our place. Lots of wind and some marble-size hail, and temps dropped 20° in about 15 minutes. Looks like 40s and 50s for us for the next week or so.

Spent some time over the weekend working a bunch of little things off the honey-do list; installing basement doorbell, reinstalling ADT smoke detectors, leveling Wife's quilting machine on the new floor, etc. Got in some more work in the studio yesterday afternoon, getting things organized and connected. Couldn't find any more guitar hangers locally, so I ordered them from Amazon. They should be here Tuesday.

Glad you're still hanging out with us, Randy.

Thanks. There are a lot of us to protect. Amish, Mennonite, Quakers, Buddhists, etc etc.

As a Buddhist, I will remind you that people of that persuasion have given us some of the most efficient martial arts in the history of mankind. It was, in fact, through my study of several Asian martial arts that I came to appreciate and eventually follow Buddhism.

I generally just keep my mouth shut after these tragedies. I feel terrible for the people directly affected, and nearly as bad for the rest of us who have to endure the inevitable politicization of the event. Ultimately, though, we are all responsible for our own immediate security regardless of where we are. It's definitely a shame when people are targeted in such a placid place, though.
