Two Mondays in a row where I really want to just pull the covers back over my head and hold the news of the world at bay for just a little while longer.
I wonder how many of these psycho shooters got their ideas from listening to the news coverage of previous shootings. When something like this happens, perhaps instead of being front page news reported in depth, it should only get a brief mention, and the person responsible should not be identified, the methods used should not be discussed at all. The way things are now, it's as though these madmen are engaged in some sort of insane competition to see who can go out in the biggest blaze of despicable horror. Certainly this is not a comprehensive solution, but I'd wager that the media coverage is a factor, and dealing with it will raise constitutional questions about censorship on a par with concerns over protecting second amendment rights.
Glad you found some solace in the service, Randy. Maybe it also helps to know we'll all be pulling for you in the months ahead.
Ah, and then there's the end of Daylight Savings Time. I've slowly been replacing my clocks with ones that reset themselves using the radio signal. When I got up yesterday, the two with old style analog dials showed the correct time, as did the computers. The others didn't reset themselves until last night, and of course the ones in the vehicles and appliances still need my attention to be accurate again. So yesterday I felt like I was in sort of a nether region where I had to think about what clock I was looking at and ask myself if what was telling me was accurate or not. But then the only time it really mattered is when I sat down to watch the evening news, and the broadcast I'd expected wasn't showing because the clock over the TV hadn't reset itself yet...
My original intent on the old BMW motorcycle was to keep it as period as possible so as to preserve the riding experience of days gone by, but the electrics of yesteryear weren't all that reliable. Nothing ruins a good time quicker than being stranded at the side of the road, but fortunately the aftermarket makes available more reliable parts to minimize that likelihood. Yesterday I opened a box containing a replacement for the old generator and magneto, a combination alternator and crank position triggered solid state ignition unit. It all hides under the front cover of the engine and fuel tank, so there shouldn't be much if any visual clue of the heart and brain transplant. That also means changing out all the old six volt bulbs, so I took some time to research twelve volt LED replacements. Suitable candidates were found on line, though I had to resort to an obscure operation in Jolly ol' England for the headlight bulb. A couple of clicks and even that was easy thanks to Paypal. The old parts, like the spokes I'm removing from the wheels, will go into a box in case the next caretaker feels differently about reviving a more authentic experience. Everything but the old tires that is, as they came from one of my friend's friend's old Honda, and weren't correct either. Period tires are available, but they're no better than what was to be had back in the day, and again I opted for improved function and safety over the original experience. Purists might call it sacrilege, and when it's their turn they're free to do as they please with such a machine.
Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!
