We bought the top of the line Sears Kenmore front load washer / dryer and pedestals for the ranch house we built 7 years ago. Both worked perfectly until one day the washer just wouldn't go. Got Sears tech out and he said control board failed and that it was built by Whirlpool but they no longer supported it. Bought new set of LG and hoping for longer service.

I think the belt had to be replaced once on the dryer, and the lid switch on the washer is currently on fritz with an intermittent problem ... mostly a design issue ... the lever on the lid that actuates the switch comes out of a fork on the switch that it's supposed to sit in. I need to fix that before it gets destroyed from slamming the lid to get it to go.

We used to buy nothing but Kenmore, now I won't even give them a look.

I have a Dasco magnetic angle finder ... I'll go up here in a little bit and slap it on there just to be certain, but I'm pretty sure the angle is 45 degrees.

I'd make it at least 1' wider than the width of your bucket, 2' would be even better ... makes lining up on it a little easier.

As far as screening goes, it's best if you are screening soil or compost that it isn't too wet (will clump) or too dry (makes a lot of dust, particularly if there is any wind)

The compost or soil has a tendency to dry as it's screened ... so the wetter it is initially, the more passes it will take over/through the screen to break down the clumps.

I tend to not be real picky about what goes into the compost pile ... sticks, big chunks of wood, old lumber, rocks ... it all helps to bust up the clumps when you screen it.

Went to brush my teeth yesterday morning and had no water pressure. Flipped the cutoff lever on the jet pump pressure controller back and forth a couple of times and the pump came on. That controller is only a year old, and the last one was replaced for the same reason. I always thought SquareD controllers were the best, but after this, maybe not?

Shouldn't take more than an hour to install and test the new ones when I get home.

When the controller for my water pump went out. Installed a 1 hp controller instead of the 3/4 hp that failed. Have not had a problem with the larger one.

I likely overlooked it somewhere, but what model BMW do you have? My last motorcycle was a 1987 BMW R80RT full dress. I went from Dallas one morning to Colorado Springs to visit a former neighbor for a couple of days. Then the day I came home, I rope up to the top of Pike's Peak first. Pretty nice bike, but not nearly as nice as the 1985 Aspencade that I rode to the FBI National Academy in 1986.

The bike in the picture is a '93 R100GS. The motor has been reworked to Euro spec, and it's nice and peppy. In a month or two I'll mothball it and thaw out a '95R100RT, also heavily breathed on, to use over the winter. I don't think either of them would appeal to the average Goldwing rider, as all three were made to do different things well. The fairing on the RT has kept me warm and dry in temperatures down into the 20s, but it's almost unbearable by the mid 70s. The GS is far more versatile, both temperature wise and road surface wise, though it's far too heavy to be much fun as a dirt bike. But you wanna camp off a Jeep trail off a road off a road sort of thing, it'll get you there with enough gear to be very comfortable. I camp off the RT as well, but likely as not will just get a motel room when traveling on it. I can get about 300 miles on a tank riding the GS, so long days are a bit easier. But there's a three day campout over New Years at a site east of San Diego that I use the RT for, and the return trip has been made easily in one day the last two years. This year, half of it was in pretty heavy rain, and the only thing that got wet was my collar. The RT was made for that kind of weather, and even seems to thrive on the cold, damp air. I would expect your old RT was much the same.

I've never ridden a Goldwing, except a buddy of mine that had a sidecar hooked up to one, and I was only in the chair long enough to fall off the back of it when he goosed the throttle. No, I didn't spill a drop of my beer, either.:laughing:

The bad controller here is on the jet pump that pressurizes the 50 gallon holding tank, not the submerged pump down in the well. This time it stuck with the pump off, but in times past it has stuck with the pump running. Big electric bill those months!

You can also see how deformed the hardware cloth is from having large rocks (size of a football or larger) dropped on it.

It would be more work, but screening the compost first with a more open, heavier grid like 2x2 chain link would get the rock and roots out of it, and the heavier wire would hold up to the big rocks without damage. But I don't imagine that 1x1 screen is very expensive or hard to replace, so I'd prolly do it just the way you are, too.

easy drive up, hit very little rain though it was all around me. Made it in just under eight hours, one of my faster runs.
hotel room has microwave, a necessity for my neck warmer wrap, which at the moment is trying to eliminate the last five hundred head turns.
And no crazy people on the road either; they must have gone to Key West to celebrate.

Dinner at 7 at a nice restaurant half a mile away. Time for a nap.

Yeah ... that's why I picked up a cattle panel (1/4" diameter steel ?) and used it to build the one screen ... so I could sift out the really big rocks. Worked fairly well.

A sheep/goat panel would have been better, as the openings are a little tighter (4" x 4") ... but those were twice as much (over $50) and only 4' tall. I think the cattle panel was 16' long ... so I could double it. Will probably never have the need at this point ... unless I put in that one acre pond ... :laughing:

I can tell ya that dumping stuff on it is extremely noisy ... almost to the point of "Gee, I wish I had ear muffs on ..."

But I don't imagine that 1x1 screen is very expensive or hard to replace, so I'd prolly do it just the way you are, too.

Not hard to replace ... if you don't mind the several hundred staples required to attach it ...

Fortunately, an air stapler makes it a bit easier ...

As far as expense goes, IIRC it wasn't really cheap or expensive. I think I picked up the mesh from either Home Depot or TSC ... was around $30 or $40 if memory serves.

It's actually held up pretty well for as long and as much as it's been used ... and considering what I've dropped on it.

Intended to vacuum out van, on tomorrow's agenda, due to previous owner packing tire tools in cubby hole incorrectly. Though I would never get them out. Then had nap attack .

Good morning all. If we are lucky we should have a mostly fine morning, which suits me as I need to have a good tidy up out the back and then get the power washer out to clear off dirt that is reluctant to move by brushing.

Rabbits have been at it again, digging exploratory holes in an attempt to find new homes to house their ever expanding population. Fortunately there are lots of cut thistles around, so this morning I put on a pair of thick gloves and back filled each "under construction" burrow, including a generous helping of prickly stuff to hopefully make them think twice when they try to excavate again tonight. With darker evenings on the way it will soon be time to do more persuading with a rifle.
