One friend in Melbourne FL was chiding people on Facebook yesterday for the mad rush to buy up all the bottled water, noting that "The water coming from your faucet at home is still perfectly good and nearly free by comparison." He said he's filling every bathtub, sink, and container he can get his hands on.

She's in comfort care at the nursing home, similar to hospice.

My mother was is same type of care for her final days. Worked out well because it was same people that had been caring for previous 2 years. Very caring people.

57 currently. 71 for the high.

Chicken litter is gone. 21 loads. Not sure of tonnage yet.

Birds weighted good and performed well. 567,000 pounds of chickens only managed to eat 998,000 pounds of feed. Mainly corn, some wheat and soybeans mixed in. Company came to me wanting to install windows in the barns. So the birds can have natural daylight. They're willing to finance it and pay us an allowance for the next 3 years to offset cost. So actual cost to us should be minimal but I'm still waiting on prices. They've had some test houses for 2 years now and said all barns will eventually get windows.

Waiting on cows to start calving. Any day now.

Thoughts with those in Texas, Florida and east cost. Have an ex-aunt (I guess that's correct, uncles ex wife but mother to my cousins) that rode the storm out on St. Thomas island in the Virgin Islands. My cousin said she was ok but going to have to be evacuated by boat to another island before she could get a plane back to main land. She tried to evacuate as soon as orders were given but couldn't get a flight out.

Don and toppop best wishes to your families.

Drew. Safe travels. Might be worth some stilts for generator. Will make it easier to service. No bending and buckets fit under it better.

Long waiting day, sears didn't arrive until after 3, called about 1 saying he was running late. Has a trainee in tow. New carb and manifold on the mower. Showed him the belt I replaced this weekend so getting no cost replacement for that. Have one on order via eBay but I'll take another for no cost.

Ed, you must be having a hard time keeping everything together while your wife is ill. At times like this I am really sorry that I can't offer any help with prayers as I lost religion at an early age, but I know there are lots of good, Good Morning folk who all be more than willing to help you out. Don't forget either those that don't post, instead being content to simply read these pages, as I'm sure many of those will be praying for your family too.

farmer2009, your 1.76 feed to chicken conversion ratio sounds very good. They talk about having to farm insects in future to get better ratios as the population increases. That certainly wouldn't be my preference, anyone who has ridden a bike at speed knows that insect after taste only too well !
Be interesting to hear more about the chicken windows. Would that only be on the north face ?

lenny, pickaroons are not something I have ever seen anyone using. Loggers are meant to be tough, but that is a serious self-acupuncture tool

Got a bit of a surprise when I used the jet washer yesterday. The concrete I was cleaning has only been brushed over in the past. I was aware of it being potmarked but didn't realise it was quite so bad until the holes were blasted clean of sand, with pebbles coming out in some places too, leaving about 20 holes up to an inch deep to each square yard. It is quite a thick slab and doesn't get any vehicles over, so would be a bit of a waste to dig it all up and start again, although I'm not sure what is best to do next. Any ideas greatfully received - now who is going to say just fill the holes back up with sand and look at it again in another 10 years :). Doesn't look too bad this morning anyway - all the holes have been filled by the rain.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 45° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 65° with partly cloudy skies. Up and going early. Have a MRI at 6:00am. Hope to be home in time for breakfast. Got house washing done. My arms gave out using the power washer. Ended using a ladder and Mister Clean Magic Eraser to clean most of the siding. Work so well that I am going to do garage over again. But today I need to wash all the window on house.
Ed, prayers for your wife and family.
Lenny, I have a Cant Hook for that chore. They both work well for moving timber around.
Eric, maybe the high spots need more cleaning to get surface level.
Good Morning All.

Good morning! 57˚ heading to the high 80s, nice day. A visit with Dad and then off to his house to do maintenance. I have his tractor battery pulled and charging and hope to get it running again. I found Gasoline in Bastrop Buc-ee's for $2.35 no lines, filled up. The grocery store is filled back up and things age getting back to normal in central Texas. It will be a long time before the coastal region is back to normal. Being flooded twice while in Houston, in houses that were not in the flood plain, I had to retire to higher ground. In Houston I was at 60' now I'm at 560'. I'm heading to Houston next week so I will get a look at my old running grounds.
Prayers for your wife Ed.

Around here when concrete gets like that they pave over it with asphalt...maybe Buppies can help. I'd just enjoy the new texture as is.

Good morning all. 46 here going to 73 and sunny. Thanks for the prayers, wife perked up and is doing well, smiling and doing things around the house. Thanks guys. I owe you one, maybe more. Need to mow before it rains again, not growing fast but needs clipped for sure. Splurged last night and got Chinese, not a usual thing for us because of the fat content, but it sure is good. Praying for all you guys. Ed

Eric Depending on how big it is you could grind down the high spots. We had to do that on a house we built because the sub. poured it unlevel. Turned out pretty.

Crisp clear skies and a brisk 48...going to 77.

Wife returned home from NC last night, so Coco is feeling much better...actually ran for the Frisbee for the first time all day. I put some Wound Care cream on her scratches...never could imagine how she could get so many...but greenbrier is like barbed wire with leaves. I've had many thorns penetrate thick leather gloves before.

Mowed all the lawn areas yesterday...the grass is definitely turning into its autumn look and seeding phase.

Did some ladder work to put some short deck screws into a loose soffit board. I have to use the long extension ladder on the ground, then carry up the short extension ladder and set up on roof to reach the soffit on the tower. I had installed telescoping legs on the short extension ladder years ago to use on various angles of the roof and it works great. Would like to have had one of those cherry pickers like Drew rented, but too small of a job.

Ed, hope things are better with your wife.

Randy, sorry about your mom.

Don, glad things are better in your part of the state.

Checked the Equifax website, and they say my info may have been compromised...along with 143 million others. With so many big hacks on companies and government, it's hard to believe anyone's data hasn't been stolen by now.

Glad Coco is better and wife made it back again safe and sound

Asphalt and concrete dissimilar materials expand and contract at different rates i.e. Why you see expansion joints come back thru the asphalt cracking water failure of asphalt

Eric just call it textured, some people try to make the concrete look like you describe. They pour rock salt on the surface when right after the pour to get the same effect you have. However if you are not content with "that look" you can always use it as an excellent base for a few thousand pavers.

49°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 81° today.

Electric company co-op showed up yesterday morning along with our electrician. They brought in a bucket truck to replace the lines, conduit, meter, and box on our pole ... everything from the weatherhead down. The pole was replaced about 5 or 6 years ago, but they put all the old equipment back on it. Our electrician called them and convinced them they needed to come out and update everything, as the box was in terrible shape. He also took that disconnection opportunity to replace the lines going into the house. A light at the end of the tunnel is starting to appear, as he told The Wife he will be back this Saturday, then again next Friday and Saturday, and he should be finished by then. The house will be completely rewired.
