Eric, I think your definitions are good. I'm lazy and probably use rod and pole interchangeably. Although if I had bought a 4K pounds "pole" from Fosters, I think I would expect magic, so would call it a wand.

Eric we call it a rod&reel, and a fishing pole. The fishing pole around here is usually bamboo. When I did eat fish It was from LJS, too impatient to sit around waiting on the fish to take the bait and way too lazy to clean and fry them.

Good morning! 74˚ heading to 100˚. Mow day today. I picked my watermelon yesterday and put it on ice. It along with lots of water will get me through the heat today.

You know the watermelon is ready to pick when it passes two test.
1. it has a hollow sound to it when you thump it.
2. the tendril where it is connected to the vine turns brown and the second tendril from the mellon is also brown.
The tendrils in the pic appear as little brown sticks, the second tendril is too the right following the vine in front of the mellon. Can you find them? (hint: one is shooting down one up.)

65 this morning and headed to 87 today. Chance of rain this afternoon.

Have to run to town for gas for the mowers. Helper will be mowing today. I'll be trying to finish spraying pastures. Weeds in hayfields are already wilting nicely.

68F and overcast @ 08:45, high today 79F ... calling for possibility of thunderstorms later this afternoon. We could use a good soaker.

Got more saplings dug up and hauled to the burn pile yesterday. I did get the pallet forks put on and the pallets of lumber and other stuff moved as well.

After that I stuck the LMB back on and cleaned up leaves around the polebarn until I quit for the day.

I did take a little break from the leaf clean up and moved some of the gravel that needs cleaned/screened. The gravel pile is sitting on the south side of the polebarn ... which is the only real flat spot with enough area to do screening and still maneuver ... so the entire pile will be have to be moved before it (or other fill) can be screened.

Today I need to put the pallet forks back on and move the soil screen frame out of the shop so I can get the Kubota in to work on it.

The hour meter on the Kubota is currently sitting exactly at 2000.0 hours ... so it's due for some routine maintenance and a little TLC ...

Pretty sure I have all the filters, but will need to run out and pick up fluids at some point later today. Also pay lawn guy.

Probably pull the tractor-side SSQA off and fix it, after I get done with the tractor itself.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 96F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

More or less finished the electrical work under the dash yesterday, organized the wiring so the right ones would reach the dash instruments, and installed the new dash. Looks nice, and even better, when the helper and I plugged in the instrument housing, all the idiot lights and instruments worked. Well, all except for one LED lamp, which I had somehow managed to install backwards in the socket. And we couldn't test either the tach or speedo; kinda hard with no engine.:confused2: One less hurdle to getting it running; now where's the engine, transaxle, and exhaust system? Oh, that's right, still waiting on the mechanic!:banghead:

All the outside lamps work now, too, all except for one side marker. Took off the lens, cleaned out all the contacts on the socket, checked the bulb, put it all back together and it worked. Except next time I looked at it, it was out again. Took it back apart, removed the socket from the lens and put it back together so I could wiggle things, and there was no rhyme or reason to what made it come on and go out. It just seemed to have a mind of its own. One of the wires was a little stiff with a knick in it, so I replaced that, but to no effect. So today I'll see if I can scrounge a new socket from the parts van, and break out one of the LED bulbs I have to replace the incandescent ones, and try again next week.

Got some help from someone on a Facebook group for the centerstand on the old BMW. The tang used by one's foot to lower the stand had broken off and I needed dimensions to make a new one. One kind soul took a few snaps with a ruler in the pic and I think I'm off to the races. Now we'll see what the scrap pile turns up for steel.

Earlier in the week the weather guessers were forecasting mid 80 highs for next week, but when I just checked they're now saying mid to upper 90s. Sure will be nice when we get a break from this hot weather. I don't think the windows have been open on this house since June!

Picked up one of those high tech cooling shirts to try to stay a little cooler while working outside. Fits good, easy to move in, but the material is so slippery I'm having trouble keeping my pants up! Fortunately, the shirt tail is quite long so there's no plumber's crack on display, and now I'm right in fashion with that low rider crotch!:laughing:

I found number 1 to be too unreliable, even before I lost most of my hearing. Number 2 was always the most reliable for me.

64°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 86° today with rain on and off most of the day. Rain against the bedroom windows woke me several times this morning. Going to be a long, tired day.

Took a "field trip" yesterday morning to visit a customer's facility in Mt. Vernon, IL. Went there to get a better understanding of what they're doing, and what we can do to help them do it better. Good people running a good small business (3 people), and it was a very beneficial trip.

Crazy highway stories from the trip, too. On the way there driving east on I-64, I was passed by a convoy of pickups hauling trailers with porta-potties, all going about 80 mph. Mixed in with this convoy was another truck pulling a trailer with a golf cart and a '56 Bel Air. Noticed as he passed me - at 80 mph - that the two trailer tires on the passenger side were very low and grumbling loudly. I figured he probably wasn't going to make it to wherever he was going, and sure enough about a mile later smoke started rolling out of that side, followed shortly by one entire tire flying through the air as the other exploded into shards. Amazingly, he made it to the shoulder without further incident. He was still there when I came by on the way back. A bit further down the interstate I encountered a freshly blazing car fire. Fire Department wasn't there yet, but as I got up to it a State Trooper was running to it with a fire extinguisher.

Stopped and got my oil changed and had lunch in Fairview Heights before continuing to work. Including the drive home, about 4-1/2 hours in the car yesterday.

The low this morning was 45*, yesterday high was 80*. Did get a few drops of rain.But not enough to make the ground wet. Today is going to be about the same.

Eric, I guess I miss spoke, they are fishing rods. I can see the looks on my grandsons faces if I gave them a 6 ft long stick and tell them that they are their great grand dads fishing poles. I may just do that!

I did get about 30 poles cut and stacked yesterday for the neighbors next fence repair. They should last awhile.
Making the weekly trip to town today.

Had some coffee. Off today. Kind of tired. Need to get going. Another hot day in central Texas. 98F

RNG, I have a couple of the solar shield shirts. I don't like them for most activity, except I have one that zips up almost like a turtle neck and I find it perfect for summer motorcycle riding. Having the wind blown into it helps. Sitting on a tractor does not force enough air through it and I get over heated.
