Good morning!!!!

Nice day yesterday, though a bit cool. Looks like another good one today with a high of around 40. Managed to go around the corner to the next street that is water front and got a picture of Chrome lighthouse with a fishing trawler catching herring. After going to the gym will spent a good part of the day burning the branches that came down over the winter. :fiery:

32 out this AM. I am sure the remaining survivors of flowering bulbs had their last stand yesterday. Too bad, the yard is so colorful in the spring. Oh well. Yesterday's work around the silo got real interesting. As I was raking, I managed to pull up two metal roof panels from a nearby shed. LOL. Anyway the silo stands alone and clean of brush for the first time in 100 years. Not sure what to do with the extra space. LOL.

Have a great day all, be safe.

I agree, post a pic

Much smaller size (went through about 5 additional steps to downsize it). :/

Anyway, I tried to convey how big of a deal it was.

Mousefield, beautiful pics. Those boats look very similar to our Gulf of Texas :) shrimp trawlers. Only different net shapes.

54°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 66° today. Expecting some potentially rough storms again tonight.

Lowe's came out on Friday and did their pre-con walk-through and inventory. They found that they didn't have enough of several items. There is only enough hardwood flooring to complete the kitchen and hallway, and a small part of the living room. So, essentially half of what is needed. They only have about 3/4 of the backsplash tile needed for the kitchen. The three interior doors are all the wrong width, and the flooring bullnose edging for the stairwell was not ordered at all. This does not inspire great confidence.

On the brighter side, they brought a different contractor to do the work. The last guy boogered up most of the measurements, obviously. We've already had to have our electrician come back and move a switch box on the kitchen wall because their design would have had it behind the stove. Now we find that they didn't order enough materials. I'm left wondering if the new cabinets and countertop will even fit at this point.

Frustrating, and probably better that I'm at work while they are there. I don't handle incompetence very well, especially when it comes at the cost of five figures.

We had a decent weekend, temperature-wise, and got a lot of little things knocked off of the honey-do list.

So Lowes is your primary contractor? Is this for flooring only? I've thought about using in the past but have never done it.

Kyle, great picture of your son, who must have had both a long lasting smile and wonderful memories.
Nice fish too!

Mousefield, are those herring bait/chum fish or the kind in the Vita herring jar with sour cream and onions? I like those...

He's only about 50 lbs and I'd guess 10 of those are his big head. If he latched onto a 10 pounder, he'd probably get pulled over into the water being as top heavy as he is. :)

Kyle. Nice picture of your son and fish. Good job giving him the opportunity to catch it.

PJ. We found Lowe's contractors to be the high priced guys. Last estimate we got was 1/3 material and 2/3 labor. Ordered off their measurements but layed part of it ourselves and then hired another guy to finish. Come to find out he lays floor for Lowe's but also subs out on the side. He layed 2 bedrooms in under a day. Said bathroom might have pressed him into 2 days. But labor bid from Lowe's was over 6k. He did it for $400.

Partly, yes. We are remodeling the whole house. We're doing the upstairs first while we live in the finished basement. We had a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and HVAC guys we hired to do the major work like removing walls, windows, and doors, and building a closet in the new master bedroom. All electric is being redone, and the most grievous plumbing atrocities are being repaired. All of our guys have done a stellar job, and have been easy to communicate with through the whole process. We bought new hardwood flooring, kitchen cabinets, and a custom bathroom shower from Lowe's, and their on-site designer convinced us to let them do the work. Since their custom cabinet prices beat our local builder by over $2K, we agreed to just let them do this part of the installation of their materials. The guy did a really good job of selling it, but then completely disappeared after we wrote the check. Many of the issues we are now encountering are a result of his complete silence over the last couple of months. He simply never returned calls or text messages. Ever. My wife called the store manager eventually, and he assigned someone else to follow up. That guy got some questions answered, but not all. He just ran out of time, so not his fault he was chucked into the fire at the last minute. This last phase of the upstairs stuff started today.

When this is all done, we will move upstairs and start gutting the basement for a complete remodel of that as well. I can assure you that the Lowe's in Fairview Heights, IL will not be playing a single part in that work. I can't speak for the people at your local store, but this one is just terrible.
