About one inch of snow that is melting fast. See the herring fleet is off shore, should be fishing for about one week. Going to go around the corner and see if I can get a picture of a fishing boat and Chrome lighthouse in the background.

Look forward to the picture, if you manage to take one. Do you get the herring fishermen about the same time each year ?

I find it impossible to see the word herring without this swimming around my head.

Kyle, sounds like we are all missing your son's fabulous bass picture. Can you try and post (reduced size ?) picture again, or else it will forever be the digital age equivalent of a typical, arms outstretched, "it was this big" fisherman's tale. :laughing:

Sun is shining brightly this morning, picking out the white blossom on a distant solitary bush that is fast becoming a tree in it's own right. It inadvertently got left behind in a nursery bed when I first arrived here and somehow managed to escape the hoe from a later crop of potatoes. I intended to transplant it long ago but now it has earned it's position in the landscape and is welcome to stay for as long as I am around.

Good luck with the plot negotiations farmer2009. A view out the window would be good, upwind of the muck heap even better.

28 degrees out and I can hear the sounds of flowers expiring...

had fun yesterday cleaning parts for my Gravely mower restoration, took the local equivalent of Purple Power and diluted it four to one, works well, not good on paint though. I wanted the non flammable solvent, not the stuff they usually sell for parts washers in five gallon buckets. At one point I looked back and went uh oh, time to turn it off. Too many bubbles...and later that afternoon, doubts crept in, did I turn the switch off, will I see foaming bubbles squeezing out of the doors of the barn? so yes, back down I went to check, it was off of course.
I didn't get this no name parts washer from Harbor Freight, though theirs are very similar. Trying to get one step better quality without tripling price and getting US made shop equipment for pros, which I just don't need. Strong motor on pump, almost wished it was variable to slow it down. I spent about thirty bucks more than the HF one and I think the steel is thicker, this tub with a motor is very nicely made.

Now the real question is...where does one properly dispose of about 7 gallons of super dirty parts washing liquid when the time comes? Maybe the township has a drop off facility. It's not oil so the regular places won't take it

32 out this AM. I am sure the remaining survivors of flowering bulbs had their last stand yesterday. Too bad, the yard is so colorful in the spring. Oh well. Yesterday's work around the silo got real interesting. As I was raking, I managed to pull up two metal roof panels from a nearby shed. LOL. Anyway the silo stands alone and clean of brush for the first time in 100 years. Not sure what to do with the extra space. LOL.

Sawed up the fallen pine over my path yesterday...used my super Billy grapple to move the logs (my arms/back/legs). Then cut a few snags out while I was at it. Then shoveled up a FEL bucket of creek sand by the bridge to fill in a few old stump holes that were sinking in. My woods path is in the best shape ever.

Good Morning! 40F @ 5:00AM. Rain and snow this morning turning to rain in the afternoon. High 43F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70%.

The radar time loop for this area makes it look like a band of freezing rain swept through a few minutes ago but there's no sign of moisture on the ground. I wouldn't be disappointed if it stayed that way. But the winds have had the porch cover and hummingbird feeder creaking all night, so it's time to tighten tarps and fill up the feeder to restore peace and quiet.

Drew, that parts cleaner will last a lot longer if you flush it out with clean water when you're done. Some of those non-petroleum cleaners are very hard on pump seals and will quickly corrode the steel tub as well.

Installed one of these yesterday to power a security camera without adding to the wall clutter. Works well and very easy to do. What will they think of next?:laughing:

Yesterday's story on debris clearing at the Oroville Dam spillway:

In the meantime, crews continued to work 24 hours a day to remove the debris at the bottom of the spillway. In total, officials estimated there is 1.7 million cubic yards of debris. Of that total, 329,000 cubic yards has been removed.

"They're excavating about 50-70,000 cubic yard per day ... out of that 1.7 million," explained Murray. "So if they can keep up the same rate, we're expecting some major progress in the next few days and even in the next week or two, so hopefully mother nature will let us keep going."

Whew, that's a LOT of rock! But I think somebody needs to check their math: my tally is more like 23 days to finish.

Here it is.....Monday and I survived the weekend below zero temps, yet again. Temp is 22 and we are looking at a forecast high of 39.
Time to cut the piles of snow down to size and relocate them. I pile them near the house to act as windbreaks, knowing full well that when spring hits IF they don't get moved then the basement will flood out.

Good morning. Similar weather to txdon, warm and muggy. Heading to work to rest from the weekend.
Turned out my truck wasn't too badly damaged. It's my beater truck so I told the repair shop to give me an estimate for bare bone repair to get it going without painting or body work. One shop told me $3,900. Another shop quoted $3,500. I didn't think it was that bad so I towed it home and attempted the repair instead. This weekend was a busy day for me between the tractor and the truck.

Truck: Replaced radiator with after market parts - $125. Bought front head light assemblies (not arrived yet) - $170. Surprised to find out that the condenser that was in front of the radiator survived the crash and is still working. It was severely mangled so I placed it between card board and two pieces of of plywood and lightly vacuum pressed it flat. Pulled a vacuum on it last night and it seems to be holding. I'll charge it with R134a tonight. I lost a lot of transmission fluid from the built in oil cooler in the radiator so I drained the transmission and replaced the oil. I did the same thing with the power steering fluid because I lost the fluid from the busted hose. The hood is kinda straightened out using wood blocks and clamps. I had to hammer out the radiator and the grill support. That's body work the old fashion way I tell ya. You don't replace things unless they can't be hammered out. So between parts, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, antifreeze, and refrigerant I'm up to $390. I'm going to get my beater truck going again for 1/10 of what the shops told me. I call that a win

Tractor: Still waiting for all the parts to come to replace all the hydraulics. So far I've spent roughly $700 for stainless steel tubing & fittings, hoses, fittings, and new lift cylinders. Thank goodness for Surplus Center and ebay.

Washer: Bought a new washer. Delivery is this week.

I'm trying hard but money is still flying out of my pocket!

PS: Y'all should have seen my redneck vacuum press. I used a contractor trash bag, AC vacuum hose, and duct tape! It worked like a charm. My truck AC condenser was straighten out in no time.

Yeah. It had better have had 42-43,000 worth of timber on it. . What I buy will have to cash flow. $700 calves and $3.75 corn means I can't pay war prices. It doesn't bother me to pay fair values though.

Mine is near the airport and borders a creek, it's not farm land nowadays.

Kyle, I never caught a large mouth more than 3 1/2 lbs.

I sure am suffering from being under water. I've had people asking me why I didn't desalt the tractor myself. Well, my excuse was that I had two houses to fix and no time for the tractor so I sent it to the shop and they screwed me well and good.

Guilty as charged on the truck. Some body slammed on the brake to make a sudden turn and I just could not stop fast enough.

I'm not working on the washer. That Maytag is 20+ yr old and is due for replacement.

Get a Speedqueen.
