I'm finally off to the feed store this morning to buy something to plant as a winter cover crop.
Very exciting for a wannabe farmer.
Though I am seriously considering planting a pecan grove in that acre next year, creating a second orchard of sorts.
Anyone here grow pecans?

The family farm has a few old remaining pecan trees.

The trees are very brittle and tend to be difficult to maintain and are as messy as a magnolia.

Almost as bad as a hackberry.

My wife's grandfather, a lifelong farmer had planted them hoping for a cash crop, but my recently deceased father in law (age 90) said his dad was always disappointed with the effort.

I use the "file drawer" analogy.

My brain has been like a file drawer without a back wall.
As it approaches filling up, stuff in the back gets pushed out of the drawer and falls down inside the cabinet.
I still got the information you know but just can't quite reach it laying in the bottom behind the drawers!

That's a good one, Lenny. Hope I can remember it next time I'm trying to remember something...

Good morning! Cloudy, light fog, 68˚. It has been raining about a tenth an inch each day.

Ron, It was leaked out yesterday that Santa might put a SE, under the tree, for me.!!!!! Now I have to keep an eye open (for Santa) at the black Friday/cyber Monday adds.
Santa, so far:
Sam's Club $499 and comes with a $250 Sam's gift card.
Best Buy $399 and comes with a $100 gift card.

Drew, Toyota does the same here in Texas. All those what they call "Port" add ons are ridicules. If I get a Toyota next time I will insist I order it without all the useless stuff and I will wait 6 months for them to make it. I really don't want different floor mats, first aid kit, engraved ID# on windows, over coat, nitrogen in tires, etc. . . . The only thing I did want was tint on the windows but not at their price mark-up, besides vehicles should come with darker glass windows in sunny states so added tint should not be necessary even if it's just on the drivers and passenger front windows.

Speaking of nuts, my creek bottom is full of black walnuts. I raise the deck to mow right now.

Youngest turns 18 today, where did time go?

Frost again last night, not freezing fog like Roy got. I have been in freezing fog in england.

My last vehicle purchase was a hyundai elantra. 1st dealer jerked me around so I walked out, bought at another dealer for less. One nice thing here, many dealers to choose from.

One of the local high school football players was knocked unconscious and flown off the field last night. Scary thing.

Have a good day all, maybe if i get motivated I'll go buy a pole saw.

thanks Thall. I've been watching YouTube videos, seems squirrels and deer are the enemy, I'm overloaded with them and the answer is
sonic boom cannons. No.
Bought two hundred pounds of Oregon winter rye, the feed store had no other suggestions, did not sell forage seeds, but said if I was going to till it in, this would work well. Seems like all I'm doing is planting a bright green lawn in the middle of winter but oh well. It's what I do in the Spring that will take some pondering during the cold months.

Good Morning , 38F this morning, sky is clear. Did not get all my chores done yesterday , to many loafers stopping by , nice weather does that , they had some idea they could drink more coffee then me and one even tried to out talk me.If they show up today they are getting a crash course on operating a log splitter . I bought my Grandson a .17 cal pellet gun but my daughter told me if I even mention it to him she would use it on me. So that is my plinker now. Benjamin Shockey Steel Eagle .At $225 I felt it was a lot of money for a BB gun , but after using it I have to say it is close to a 22. It went through the steel siding of the pole barn at 100 foot, It comes with a scope and is a lot of fun and cheap to shoot,500 rounds of the good stuff for $7 .It is quite enough also. I took two pictures of how clear the sky is ,the elevator in the back ground is 7 miles away. hope Blue Skies dont come with a price. DSCF1142.JPG DSCF1144.JPG

Good Morning

Hey Rocky, I'll mail you some paper targets so you don't have to keep shooting up your barn!! :D

I've got the same logsplitter I think and that reminds me of the pile waiting for me. Weather has finally cooled off and it feels
like wood splitting time

Careful, the Outback was one of the Subaru models with below average reliability, at only 43 out of 100. If you're interested in why, Drew, I'll dig around a little more and see what I can find in my Consumer Reports back issues.

I know my son and daughter in law will never own another one after the transmission issues and treatment by both the dealer and Subaru.

25 and freezing fog (never saw that in Pennsylvania!) right now...upper 40's for the high.
Hopefully, it'll be dry enough to blow some leaves out of the yard. Also, it's getting time to buy some driveway markers.
If I have the time, I'd like to modify the 10/22 Take-down receiver with the non-metallic bolt stop and auto-release bolt (just don't drop all those pins and little springs this time, Roy!!)
We get freezing fog here every couple of years, takes perfect set of circumstances. First ice of the year, water on top of the plastic outdoor cat house was frozen solid, water dishes on the ground were not. 34 going to 60's.

39ーF and a little foggy this morning, going up to 66ー today. Much more November-ish weather.

Same experience here, RNG. I have always bought the cheap stuff, usually Winchester Wildcats. Rarely had any problems with them. When those became scarce a few years ago, I reluctantly switched to Remington Thunderbolts. Wow, they were even worse than I remembered. I was getting a failure about every 10-15 rounds. I am able to find the Winchesters again, but my Wife's Walther P22 will only shoot Federal with any regularity (finicky little gun). So, since they seem to shoot well in everything else, too, we just buy those now. Good plinking rounds.

I've got an 10/22 and it'll shoot anything you put in it, had one clunk in the 50 years I've been shooting it.

RNG and Randy, thank you. I don't expect to keep this car beyond the warranty but who knows, I may like it otherwise. I really wanted the Q5, but also glad I saved ten grand. Boxer six engine is old but has advantages sitting low in the body, trans is IVT and who knows about that. Randy, would you PM me please with details? Ton of them out there. I did not keep my foot to the floor long but the one I drove surged nicely and did not over-rev and drone. It had enough torque to get moving without a lot of throttle, but powerful it's not. They brought it out decades ago so I'd like to think they have it sorted out by now.

Subaru just announced long range plans to get out of the lawn mower engine business (Subaru Robin), recreational engines and devote their time
apparently to cars. I'm readying stories about companies needing huge investments to keep up with all the new safety nannies and radars plus the electrification of cars.
Good thing Subaru continues to sell more and more cars, though they are for sure a small player.
Maybe Subaru will just let the Chinese build their Robin engines like everyone else.
I've always had very good experience with their small engines.
Though I do worry about the proliferation of plastic parts now being used inside small engines.

I will get the accurate details from my son this weekend and forward them to you, they had basically liked the car before the CVT issues started a year or so before failure occurred. I have a Subaru Robin on my power washer that I bought around 10 years ago, had some carb issues, otherwise OK.

I mow with a finish mower and have to clean up small branches under the pecans and hackberries, less so with a live oak.

All of the duds with the Remington green box were with a 10/22. I have several, and it didn't work well in any of them. But it was all from only two lots, so maybe it's better now. But there are so many other good choices, I'll never bother to find out.

Bit too damp to blow the leaves yet...anyway, wife and stepdaughter went to the store, so I'm babysitting the dog. Charging the blower's batteries (only takes one, but I have three batteries (I have the blower, weed trimmer and a chainsaw, all battery powered (EGO makes some nice stuff!). The batteries are lithium-ion and last quite a while, considering.

I did swap out the bolt stop and bolt release...didn't do anything stupid this time so the job was done in about 10 minutes

66°F and .08 inches rain

Pressure washing almost complete. Have an area about 2x20 in front of tractor she'd, but need to move a few things. Should have finished yesterday but body was ready for ibuprofen.

Got my hydro cooler yesterday so will attempt getting that installed today and put tractor back in service.

Drew, that sounds like a good deal. I dislike the new car buying process, especially the $$ part. Prices are so cringeworthy. Wife has been talking about replacing our 2001 Sequoia, just turned 100K, but same model is nearly $60k - OUCH. Luckily this is a wasn't, not a need, so delay delay delay.

Be safe
Have a great day

100k on a car now is peanuts. I've had several vehicles we've ran over 200k, with no major repairs.

Those are fantastic prices, Don! You're quite the shopper!!!

I always call to confirm and Sam's is not up to par. Only 1 day offer (next Sat.) and only 3 in stock and the add went out to hundreds of thousands of people, and I am not standing in line waiting for the store to open at 7am.

Best Buy was an apparent "flash sale" it expired quickly, now no gift card and $60 more
So I am quite the frustrated shopper.

Back to the search.
