another hot day today, 72 going to 92. Still hurting from doing tree work yesterday; think I'll cool it today.
And what better way to chill out but go look at a "new" tractor! Then a haircut, and then likely back to mow a little.

RNG, I think I'd find a way to store water on my property, even nonpotable water, just for emergencies, and get a small fire pump setup like Northern Tools has. And for sure a generator to run critical systems. The challenge of course is the whole community needs to be fireproofed, not just your house. Blowing embers are not good at all...
Someone needs to start a "fire mitigation" service up there, a specialized landscaping service just for this.

car place called, warped wheel hub now. And they are replacing the brand new rotor on that side just in case. How does one warp a wheel hub? And these are supposed to be the highest class brakes of them all, Brembo's... this car was babied by a number of old farts; not like anyone took it to Germany and stood on the brakes at 150mph. I'm a very light braker, try to use my brakes as little as possible, so warped brake components seem really odd to me.
Where have you been little kitty where you got so overheated?....

70 going to 94. We had a mostly rainy day yesterday, not predicted.

Getting low on coffee, so getting ready to do a couple of roasts, then may run generator for test and to get to the 5 hour oil change...bought our first gen before the big snow storm last winter and have only run it to test it...would like to finish the break in period before we really need it...using only LP fuel.

We got the shingles immunization a few years ago at Costco pharmacy for about $35, too, with insurance...just looked on the site, and it shows full price now is $224. Flu shot $15, Hep A is $71, Tetanus/Dip/Whoop is $54...they have 10 immunizations available...so many things trying to kill us. RNG needs a fire immunization.

Germany Has Best Farm Machinery Museum In The World

The Deutsches Landwirtschaftsmuseum in Germany is the best farm machinery museum in the world, and it recently opened a new Harvesting Hall. The museum is located on the grounds of the University of Hohenheim near Stuttgart.
It's worth the trip to Germany just to see the museum's comprehensive collection. The energetic curator, Dr. Klaus Herrmann, organizes an annual field day every fall. The Hohenheimer Feldtag is held over a weekend around the second week of September each year. The event lets visitors see a wide range of working equipment, both vintage and modern. That ranges from two men actually pulling a plow to oxen plow teams to steam traction to modern diesel tractors at work.
The museum has the world's oldest surviving planting machine, made by a local manufacturer in 1823. It's constructed of wood, and it still works. The collection of models in the main machinery hall is stunning for its sheer range and number of models.
The world's oldest surviving internal combustion tractor is there. That's the Mechwart, built in Hungary in 1896. An original Lanz tractor is there, along with several in the Bulldog series and many original German tractors as well as others from all around the world.

There is at least 100' of elevation gain between the house and top of the property, and my thought is to place a pair of 10,000 gallon water tanks, or build a concrete cistern of about that size, up there. It'll get plumbed into the domestic water system, and provide about 40 psi of water pressure even when the pumps aren't running. But in order to do that I need a land survey to ensure I observe the mandated set backs. I looked into that a few years ago and found only one surveyor willing to do the job, at $7.5K, but at this point I think the cost is justified. And since part of that survey will support the construction of a fence, I can force the neighbor to help pay for it. I say force because of my previous (unfortunate) history with him.:thumbdown:

I also had a long conversation with a fireman that is also a forester. I asked him about fireproof shutters, especially for the vinyl clad windows and doors. He didn't seem too concerned because the embers would bounce off both surfaces, and as long as they didn't land on combustible surfaces, the house would be OK. He said most houses burn because embers find a way inside or up under the roof shingles or tiles, and I already know that the tile roof on this place isn't ember tight. So also on the list is a call to one or more roofing companies for advise on addressing that problem.

The added distance created by Calfire's dozer work has gone a long way toward mitigating the ember hazard as well, but it's not completely eliminated. I will be bringing up the ember issue when the remediation folks show up, my reasoning being that if they don't address the downed fuels and instead leave them in place to naturally decay, they are creating and maintaining a hazard on state property. As such, I should be able to hold them liable for any damages caused by that decision.

You might want to ask your mechanic if he actually measured the run out using a dial indicator. As you suggest, I find it difficult to believe that the parts are actually warped, especially the new rotor. Far more common for brake deposits or contaminants to build up on the rotor and cause brake pedal pulsing, especially if the brakes only get light use. And I seem to remember a previous post where you indicated that was indeed the case, but the problem was not helped by repeated heavy braking.

I'd also ask them if they cleaned the surfaces of both the rotor and wheel hub where they meet. If not, it would be very easy for the rotor to end up off perpendicular to the axis of rotation, and that's sure to create a problem.

That's another thing on the list. I did pull my Honda generator out of storage and used it to power my refrigerator during the power outage. I didn't use it for more because I have been dragging my feet on a transfer switch, hoping to bundle that into the work needed to build a shop. I estimate that the fuel in the generator was at least a year old, but it had been treated with Stabil and the genny started on the third pull of the cord. Of course the battery for the starter was dead after that long on a float charger.

For those of you that have stationary backup generators, how did you decide on Kohler vs. Generac, and did any of you consider any of the offerings from Cumins or Caterpillar?

Could it be possible maybe incorrect wheel lug toque and heat caused this if in fact this is the problem?? Just grasping here never heard of a warped wheel hub!

Hi all. Made it back to Oklahoma last night about midnight. Little two year old was a trooper during the two truck and three plane rides getting home.
Didn't have much plans for the day until went into the spare bedroom and noticed my desk pulled away from the wall and an ice chest placed under the wall AC unit. Neighbor found it leaking water all over desk. Sat receiver box and carpet.
So it looks like I'll be checking drain lines first thing today.

PS She said something yesterday in the airport that was cute.
She's getting big and can walk and run now so we don't carry her much unless necessary. She's asked to be picked up a few times during this visit which I've always asked as I lifted her up If her legs are broke.

In the airport last night as we are walking along holding hands at a two year old's pace because her stroller is for babies apparently I got this out of the blue.

"Poppy, hold me. My legs are broke."

Nanny had a laughing fit right there in front of the world! Now I know I have to watch what I say around her to take home to her momma and repeat.
