Very carefully David, ask the Germans what they think of all this corporate lying and does it have any historical precedence?

Having been treated warmly by the neighbor's and most everyone else so far, I believe I'll skip this question. :)

64 right now...heading up to 85 today....looks like a cool down after today though.

Looks like the generator (a Kohler) will cost somewhere between $7K and $8K installed, including the automatic transfer switch. This is a propane powered unit, so we'll have to get a tank too. The financing is 18 months at 0% interest.
I have one other estimate to get...this one is for a Generac unit, also 14kW

RNG That looks to have been a really close call. Thanks for the great pictures, it really brings home what it's like to live on the edge of a tinderbox. On the bright side, I can see this giving you the impetuous for some interesting projects over the next few years.

Hope you can convince them that low energy vegetation is the way to minimise the impact of the next fires.

Good morning all. When I woke up it was a beautiful sunny day. By the time I had got dressed and come downstairs the sky had turned about the dirtiest possible shade of pink. I was out with Max for only a few minutes before the rain started. There are a few fields around here with cut grass that only needed another day or so before baling. Like farmer2009, it's proving a struggle for them to make the last of the years hay.

The biggest challenge for this hilly property is side hill mowing Eric. I looked at the Grillo specs, but I seem to have missed the maximum safe side hill slope. Any idea what that is?

Also couldn't find the maximum grass height it was capable of cutting. Two feet would be nice.

Otherwise looks like just the ticket...

Max recommended side slope with optional twin wheels on the rear is 25 degrees. How easy it is to cut 2 foot high grass would depend on how thick and lush the grass is. If it's dry, stalky stuff, then it doesn't seem too worried how tall it is. The machine in the link Kyle showed us says it will handle 45 degrees, though I guess it's not exactly cheap.

Following on from yesterday's "landscaping", is there any chance you can arrange things so that in future, you would be able to cut closer to straight up and down instead of sideways ? It would be ideal if you would have a slightly flatter area at the bottom where you can turn.

Looking forward to some more sightseeing in Germany - thanks for being our tour guide David.

Good morning all,72 this morning going to 94 with fog before 11 am so I assume it will be humid. Makes me almost want to skip the blacksmith guild tonight. We will have 3 or 4 stations where new people can try out making something with a mentor. Fun night but 3 or 4 forges running in a room with 30 or so people can make it a little warm. Have to pick up a bag of coal for the guild as I am the coal monger. Might look at some wood working equipment on the way. Other than that I plan to "lay low".

Had shingles about 12 or 15 years ago, Old mountain Doc said Yep that's shingles, never seen them in anybody's mouth before. The shingles on my side were no fun but the ones in my mouth were ............ Found out turpentine really helps with shingles, just rub it on and they don't hurt as much and go away sooner. Never had the shot.

Have a great day Ed

First cup of coffee has been poured. 75° light rain this morning. Heading to 82° with chance of thunderstorms thru out the day. .18" rain. Yesterday was a busy day. Doctor visits and visiting nurse etc. Good friends that live in Canada dropped by. Good visit. Today should be more relaxed.
RNG, way to close. We visited Jim Inman (jinman) in northern TX a few years ago. There had been a fire the day before. I was amazed how far the fire went and how it jump across highways that I would have thought would stop it.
Kyke, both Betty and I have had shingles. Got over mine quick. Betty is still fighting it 6 years later. Got in her left eye. After having shingles, the chances of getting it again are about the same as the shot. I would have gotten the shot if it had been available at a reasonable price when I retired 12 years ago.
Roy, I have a 12k B&S whole house generator. Only needed about 1 time a year since it was installed in 2005. $5k to install then. Mine is natural gas.
Good Morning All.
