Good morning!!!!

Good morning, with a gentle warm breeze and plenty of sunshine, it's hard to believe weather is so good for a public holiday.

Drew, 8 acres of lawn is a lot to keep up with. Having someone you can rely on to cut it while you are away sounds good to me. Can you save a little of the cost by reducing the mown area ? Around here I would be able to let it grow into a wild flower meadow that just gets occasionally cut by the tractor, or by sheep. I would keep a few curved paths mowed around the outside - a mobility scooter race track ! Before long those robot, self guided lawn mowers will surely improve. Either one big mower, or a herd of little robot mowers, constantly nibbling at the grass. You may still have to rescue them when it rains too hard, but you be good at that with all the turtle practice.

Kyle, I wouldn't want to disappoint your daughter, although I'm sure she will be patient once she knows I am trying. Please explain to Finnly that these are wild birds, free to come and go as they please. I always tell them they are welcome here anytime, although they often fly away when they fancy something different to eat, or to go and say hello to their friends and relatives in other parts. They always come back.

I don't have a mega-zoom camera and anyway, just like humans, I think it rude to take a picture of a swan when it doesn't want it taken. So perhaps Finnly could suggest what I should say to the swans before taking out my camera ? Maybe something like "Good morning swans, you are looking very beautiful again today. Please can I take your picture ?" ? I expect most days they will think no and swim away to the other end of the pond, but if I keep politely asking, I am sure they will allow me to eventually.

Low 60's early, around 90 later. Working on on one tractor, actually making a small model of the hitch I want to build and testing it to see if it does what I think it will. My model is two screw hooks, screwed into a cardboard "a frame", have a long pin acting as the swivel rod for the screw hooks/lower arms. Using a winch mount to play the part of the tractor tail piece, with a long all thread running through a hole into the upper part of the cardboard to simulate the actuator. Looks like my idea might just work.
Old school CAD design.

Good morning, did someone just say winter is coming ? Hard to believe we are almost at the end of August, how could summer have sneaked by so quickly this year.

Kyle, the swans are still in heavy molt, with feathers everywhere at the moment. When I asked for a picture, only one agreed and even that was on the proviso there would be no body picture until new feathers have grown :)

Thanks Eric, I will explain to her. It's just that we have a 2 acre pond and she would do cartwheels if some swans showed up. :)

Had trouble sleeping last night, didn't cool off as much. I've had congestion and cough since spring, just figured it was allergies, I was taking a bunch of over the counter stuff (normal for spring allergies). I quit the allergy meds, no change, wheezing (especially when laying down), cough, etc. Wife took me to the doc on Saturday, doc listened to my lungs, sent me for chest xray, xray clear, but he still gave me antibiotic and information on pneumonia. Sunday was good, slept great Sunday night.

Have a great day everyone!

I need to see it real, Computer simulation is great, but that's my son's forte'. I'm old school real pices in real time, put my hands on them and make them work. In other words, I'm an old man!:D

Sounds like walking pneumonia as we use to call it. Causes you a lot of grief, but doesn't make you sick enough to go to the doctor, at least for a while. It can get serious though, glad you saw the doc.

arg. Just spent a lot of time on the phone but I got the Water heater problem solved. I can return the WH for refund and get a different brand from another company. They called it heat banking and were very reluctant to do anything but keep sending parts and I pay a service person and wait for the part, then another service call then apply for a refund, repeat, repeat . . .
They blame the government that they have to make the propane water heaters so efficient that the pilot will over heat the water by 55˚ getting the temp above 140˚ on the vacation setting. I found out the plumbers in the area will not install this brand, and only this brand, of water heater in the propane model, and only the propane model, because of the problems.

70°F and .28 inches rain last 24 hours.

Last day for final systems checks before we leave tonight. Need to top off the water in the batteries, check all the fluids in the generators, fill the diesel tanks, gas the mower, give the dogs their monthly heart worm preventative. .. Oh and I still need to pack :) actually our flight isn't until 8:51 tonight.
Had friends and neighbors over yesterday for Happy Hour so the sitters have people to call should the need arise as well as flesh out their social calendar abit, they are planning on joining Happy Hour in town next week.
So the adventure begins.

Be safe
Have a great day

good morning all. Wunderground has hurricane alarm banners, but that must be just for the Outer Banks. So far no rain predicted here which is odd. I'm off to the fish store this morning to find something nice to cook for dinner out on the grill. Several friends coming over, with or without their big diesel motorhome. Still not sure if they are bringing it in here; they stopped over yesterday when I wasn't here and I'm not sure my friend wants to navigate between the two big pine trees at the end of my lane. I also told him if it was pouring rain not to bring his rv in here, too hard on the lawn. If it were dry, nothing hurts the sandy lawn here, but wet, dents like normal.

going to stop in at the import car shop and see what's happening with my car. Has been in there a week so far. Really need it back by end of week because truck goes into body shop next week.

went to a carport place yesterday afternoon, very nice people, has just what I want, will see what they charge.
They also sell golf carts and the owner said he owned the same golf cart as mine and he thought there was a conversion kit to add a rear seat in the area the golf clubs go. I don't play golf...and sure would like more seats for another couple. Probably a lot of plastic to bolt and unbolt, but that was good news. I really like my two seater and didn't want to have to buy a four seater. Plus I had just put new batteries in it. So I hope what this guy says is true.

There is a rear seat. I did it for my wife and her friends carts. Seems like around 300-400 bucks each shipped to door. Easy install. And the seat lays flat to make a platform for hauling stuff if needed.
Here's one like I got.

Randy, I'm sure many of us would love to see your cardboard model, can I persuade you to get the camera out ?

Here's that lovely high tech beauty! But it demonstrated that using an actuator for the top link is feasible. I have work to do yet, but my tests are promising. Excuse the mess, but my cleaning lady was late...again!

Got a new refrigerator today, looks great, I think it will be more efficient than the 25 year old one it replaces. Obviously has more interior room, the walls are thinner. I need to raise the cabinet above it a tiny bit, but that isn't a problem. Moved some furniture around, keeping the wife busy!!

Yea, two of them, Madeline and Lester.

Yes, 2nd vote to get out of Dodge...

Now what was it that you will hook to this? Do we smell a project around the corner?

Thanks for making me laugh.

Today's bounty included an Old Milwaukee chop saw, very nice Wilton bullet end vise that weighs about 60-70 lbs. I might have mentioned it but I also got a not fully figured out Yanmar L100 motor/generator that I believe puts out DC and is designed to hook to a battery pack to keep it charged. Not sure of the DC voltage yet. It has a sign that it can start and stop on it's own.

Back blade, box blade, scoop, boom, etc...I sold my Powr'Max and I can't justify an expensive tractor to keep 3 acres and my clam shell driveway. This CC 3208 is big enough for this, and it has power steering and foot hydro that my last one didn't. Fits around my trees well, and at around 900 lbs isn't big, but heavy enough for my use. It really wouldn't be that hard to put a factory 3 point on, but I'm hard headed!

Sounds like you cleaned up! My friend has DC generator, he used it for emergency lighting, and with an inverter to charge batteries for power tools at his island house.

Kyle, if that was a made in USA Wilton, not only a good find but I bet a bargain.
David, fly safely and get above the bad weather.

made crabcakes for dinner guests, turned out nicely, all very fresh and caught locally.
sign in store this morning says 95% of their seafood comes from within two hours away.
They pick all their crab and other shellfish right there. I was watching the ladies shucking oysters while I waited.
Backfin and claw meat mixed together, very mild and tender. Cooked in butter and a little white wine.
If there was fish candy, to me this would be it.

They had four big chunks of fresh tuna, at least two inches thick, that looked like big beef filets, almost bought them,
but wasn't sure how to prepare it beyond the barbecue. And I tend to want things cooked more than others and cooking fresh tuna
very much really turns some folks off. They want hot sushi, not cooked fish. Each to his own, but hard to manage by myself and not screw it up,
ruining some very expensive fish. I stuck with what I knew how to cook. And there was not one bite left on any plate so...

called the guy who owns the old IH 674, weighs almost twice what my Kubota does but looks smaller, going to look at it with a neighbor who owns a 574 and lots of other larger IH tractors. Plus he'll bring his big truck and heavy trailer to haul it back; with a mower this weighs over 4 tons and that's too much for my truck legally. Comes with an old JD bushhog, and I don't have one, so for a 6500 ask and "nothing needed", maybe. Diesel, about 60hp, UK made. I want my neighbor to drive it and compare the steering, trans and clutch. Nothing needed might mean nothing needed one time to get it on my trailer...;)

Drew, that 674 is a nice tractor. Is it a hydro? Some were. If it has a cab, AC would be a must down there, but early AC systems were a maintenance hogs.

Good evening all. 74F to 92F today light wind, and .3 in rain while they were still roofing. Started some routine maintenance on bicycle, got interrupted, young guy with a gas golf cart was having trouble, took about 2 hours to get him going again. Plumber showed almost on time. Fixed the flange problems that prevented me fixing the original problem, then reset the commode with no leaks :)
