   / Good morning!!!! #49,142
high 40s early, 60 now, headed to mid 70s or higher. With the winds shifted, we are not getting the smoke here at the house, but don't have to go far in 3 directions to find some.

Youngest daughter (almost 25 now) hated camping when growing up (she remembers getting rained on, not the times of perfect weather). When we got our first travel trailer, she did not want to sleep on sofa or dinette beds, so she was in a tent that she hated. Now she is older, has a daughter of her own and wants to go with us in our newer trailer. She has been sleeping on the sofa airbed (sofa folds out and there is airbed for it) with her daughter. She has to put it all away during day so we have room in the trailer. I told my wife, too bad she hates tents, they would have a blast with their own tent... Later that day, daughter says she is looking at tents, ended up with a nice one, we'll try it out this weekend for a trip over labor day. We helped out and bought a couple of twin airbeds (granddaughter is 2 1/2). Looks like it might work out great.

Great story thanks for sharing

No coffee this morning. 58° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with some clouds. Going to take the hearing test today that I could not take last time. Then another doctor visit later in day. Called Gun Range. Asked me to come down next week and work out a plan to get shooting part of CPL class. Apparently my condition has happened before.
Irv, my mind must be stuck on Apple. Good luck with Quick Books.
Txdon, good luck with finishing setup of fish fry site.
Good Morning All.

Kyle, Hope you had a wonderful anniversary.

Don, Everything is temporary, Praying the rain holds off and everything goes well.

Ron Hope the hearing test goes well and that is great about the range letting you shoot outside.

Good Morning All. 75 this morning going to 94 wit heat index as high as 100. Think today I will take a lesson from Brer Fox who lay low and watched from behind a stump. I am going to lay low myself today, but I don't have a stump.

Have a great day Ed

no coffee, oh dear. Have an extra big one when you get home Ron.
I'd get a pounding headache by the end of the day if I didn't...
Hope the tests come out fine and are helpful.

need to do some roadside mowing this morning, but not too much. Helper coming at noon and I'm going to let him work on my lawn, give me a break. At least the lawn seems to be slowing down a little.

trip to dermatologist went well, despite getting frozen in several places. Not precancerous for once. Unfortunately I seem to be a petri dish for skin issues, being fair skinned and spending a lot of my life outside. I go every six months due to being high risk, but sometimes I don't make it that long. All those summers as a kid outside, no sun tan lotion, coconut oil instead of spf at the beach, etc. Thankfully they have spray on liquid lotion now, not the greasy stuff we all started out with.

Hotter day today, heat has returned, 72 already going to 92 today. Time to get out on the mower early.

Back from setting up the field, it's getting closer to being finished. The tents now have picnic tables under them, the auction benches are set up, 40 trash cans are placed though-out, lights are up, volley ball court has 6 loads of fresh beach sand, horseshoe court is being set-up, bridge is repaired, auction stage is coming together . . . .etc etc. . .

Thunderstorms still at 40% for Sat.

. . .and to think, Sunday it all comes down.

Sounds like much more than a fish fry. Hope the weather cooperates. Wish I lived closer.

71 going to 95. Humidity picked up yesterday...as Jonah says...the meteorological equivalent of a meth addict's sweatpant-crotch fog.

Kyle, hope you and your lucky wife have a great celebration. Don't forget to add that discombobulator to your TBN profile.

Roy, I wish I could watch how you sight in your .22...I'm just not satisfied with mine.

Mowed again yesterday for a couple of hours after roasting coffee. Got some spraying to do today.

74 this morning and headed to 93 today.

The chicken coops need migrating today. Then spend some time with the bush hog. Mowing pastures. Looks like a weather window next week large enough for the second cutting of hay.

Trip yesterday went well. Traffic down there is horrible. Even off the interstate. We went to lunch 2.5 miles away 20 minute drive. They agreed they believe its Autism spectrum disorders. But really had nothing else for us. Said it sounds like we're trying to help him and doing all we can. Did get a prescription for some therapy at the school he'd been denied. Other than that really didn't get any answers. It's going to be a long road I believe.

Kyle happy anniversary.

Don, Everything is temporary...
Yep, drive by those old houses with weeds and trees growing up around them and it's plain to see, what was some family's whole life, was just temporary.

Oh well, enough of that, 95° with a 105° heat index today. Getting ready to pull out the ZTR before it gets any hotter. Big car club picnic tomorrow, supposed to be a dgree or two cooler and less humid, I hope!

Wingsprd, I'm not happy with my 10/22 either, but I think it's the shooter's old eyes and not the weapon in my case!:D

Yep it is a long road, just know that you are not alone, there are many like you and yours and I know God has a special place in his heart for special people like your son. Ed

Good morning! 85˚ heading to ??. Chances of rain have dropped to 20% for Sat. One day left to prepare and then Sat morning to put the finishing touches on and rope off the parking areas and set up parking light generators and most importantly take delivery of the port-a-cans.

There were 4 tractors at the site yesterday preparing. I used my Kubota and forks and another JD with hay spears to set the 50 heavy picnic tables under the tents. My tractor just cleared the center of the tents by 2".

Ed, you are so right, everything is temporary.

The food preparers start early Sat morning by pealing potatoes for the potato salad,
and then the bean guys heat up their 2 big pots and propane burners,
finally the fish fry group cuts, breads and fries the fish and hush puppies, to give to
the to-go line group which fills the containers.
The beer - (which is free!) group goes into full swing
along with the country store ladies and
then the auction group rounds out the evening.

In the background groups of horseshoe pitching, washer throwing, and volleyball tournaments are busy getting hungry and thirsty.

In all, over a hundred core community people make this happen. When people in other areas of Texas complain about their taxes being too high I tell them the story of the Fish Fry and how their community could reduce their taxes by doing fund raisers and living on gravel roads - they quite complaining.

Little do they know that this is something larger than a VFD fundraiser.
It's not the land that make this area a good place to live, it's the people.

Hey everyone. Been fighting a cold off that I guess came back with me on the flight from NY last week. I'm normally not hit too hard but this one I guess got into my sinuses and earaches galore!
Seems to be better after 5-6 days but man I don't want any of that any more. Coupla times of light headed and dizziness but I attribute that to the ear & balance thing.
DayQuil, penicillin and ibuprofen for breakfast each day seems to help.
2 yr old granddaughter has been a blast. Of course they all are.
Should head home the 7th in Okla. for a week or so. Got work lights and some wheel adapters to install on the Kubota waiting there.
Best wishes to all,
Lenny

I remember the day like it was yesterday. The day my wife called me and told me that she had finally come across a page on a website that had a list of symptoms that pretty much to a tee described what was going on with my daughter when she was just about 3 years old. She kept reading the list of items and I just would think "check" or "ding" and that it fit her habits. So, my wife actually gets credit for diagnosing her with PDD NOS. Pervasive development disorder, No One Spectrum. I probably cried for an hour or more during and after that call. My prayers go out to your family. If there is one thing I can tell you for my daughter, she is fine most of the time, but if something annoys her and starts a "meltdown", I have found that it is best to hurry her away from the situation and re-direct her on something she likes. Keep some favorite cartoons or shows handy on the DVR. Or whatever your son prefers. Outside walks, just get them away from the situation to avoid a meltdown. The meltdowns can set things back mentally and physically.

In all, over a hundred core community people make this happen. When people in other areas of Texas complain about their taxes being too high I tell them the story of the Fish Fry and how their community could reduce their taxes by doing fund raisers and living on gravel roads - they quite complaining.

Amen Don. Amen. Same for a church.

Kyle and Farmer

For us distraction is key. I keep dried apples in my shirt pocket and give one at just the right time. It often helps, but not always. We have also learned to change the subject to happy things, if we can.

Would love to come to the fishfry, sounds like fun.
When i was young and in 4H, my mom ran the 4H food stand at the county fair. Lots of work, but i enjoyed it.
We missed our VFD carnival this yr, we were away for most of it. We like to eat there, good food.
My neighbor work the foodstand.

Farmer, thoughts and prayers with you.

My great nephew, just turned 3 had his 2nd eye surgery yesterday. Infant glaucoma.
