Front lawns mowed save for a little trimming.

Tree guys were by with another two loads - one of mostly chips and little firewood, and another that was mostly all firewood and some rakings. From a distance it looks like it might be ash.

They were off to another job, so there may be more by the time the day is done.

Farmer, good ideas.
I never made it to the mowers, had too much fun in the morning cleaning up my veggie garden and then picking potatoes.
I believe the variety is German White, (sounds a bit ominous) and the reds were a complete flop. They could have been the ones that never got any
sun Two plantings picked at one time; driven by need to get the big ones on the left out of the ground. But they were all mixed in. So lots of "new" potatoes
for stews and home made tater tots. Yes, empty carbs, but then I don't eat chips or any of that stuff. Though chips sound pretty good right now;
I can tell I'm low on salt. The ribs are marinating, and I salted them for once, and one of these potatoes is going in the toaster oven for dinner. Steamed beans right out of the garden too, though I'm going to need to cook them extra; they got a bit big.

And did someone say the sun was over the yard arm? Usually 3pm but between golf and Nascar, exceptions will be made.

Very nice taters Drew.

farmer, you make me feel lazy. When I was your age I could handle this heat a lot better, but working indoors has turned me into an "air condition gypsy" (from an old song).

100˚, Drew - compared to you I am a complete failure as a gardener. Last night the carpenter ants stripped my pepper plants, the black swallowtail caterpillar ate all my dill and the frog that is suppose to be eating them has taken refuge inside to escape the heat.

The ribs were tasty if a bit chewy and the taters must be related to Yukon Gold because they were similar but less yellow. Very mild.
Beans were delicious.
Bagged up half the potatoes and will go delivering like Santa. The rest are in Tupperware in the produce section. I don't have a basement; there's nothing cool down there.
Now what I don't know is if I should seal the lid on the Tupperware or let them breath. My memory is breathing is important, as in many things...

Don I'm glad all the critters around you don't grow ten times or you'd have your own Jurassic Park and you would be the prey.
Some of those potatoes I dug up today had been munched underneath, plus right at the end I hit a red ant colony in the raised garden.
Got me good on my left hand until I realized why I was itching so much. I mechanically ruined their nest but not sure how to get them out of there except for poisons, which of course I don't want leaching into the food. There must be a homeopathic ant remedy like vinegar. When in doubt, put vinegar on it.

Drew, Potatoes and other crops look good.
I was out feeding the fish a while ago. They come right up to pond edge for their food.

I think having a pond with fish in it would be really nice.
A relaxing spot.
Now if the fish would only bark at deer.

Kyle. 10 years ago I'd have never given heat like this a second thought. Just keep working and drinking water. Now I've been overheated too many times. It's killed my tolerance for the heat. I can really tell it when I work with people that spent more time inside. I'll out sweat them 4 to 1. Used to be able to eat anything and work in heat also. Now a cold sandwich is the best tasting thing when I'm hot.

Drew. Try out a potassium salt. It isn't as hard on blood pressure as table salt. Has a different taste but it should help with cramps. Or a sea salt. When in this kind of heat I drink 1 32 oz. Gatorade a day. I don't have big problems with cramps. But if I get one I have a small box of raisins. Can You Get Potassium Poisoning From Bananas? | LIVESTRONG.COM
Bananas aren't the only food with potassium.

I used OutSunny 18' triangles, like these: Amazon.com : Outsunny 18' Triangle Outdoor Patio Sun Shade Sail Canopy - Green : Patio, Lawn & Garden I have used the same ones for 3 years. One has a small hole where a bungee cord snapped and hit it otherwise they have held up perfect, I am very surprised given the intensity of the sun and wind here on the hill. You want the shades mainly on the Northwest side to protect from the harshest sun in the afternoon and evening. The pics were taken at 1:00 and you can see the shadows just starting to come over the pool. The other poles have a pulley system so I only have to climb the ladder to the center pole (on the NW end of the pool) and then connect, on the ground the other ends of the triangles. This way it is not critical where the poles are set because you can adjust two ends with pulleys to get them tight. set the poles deep and in cement they have to hold a lot of wind if the sails are less than horizontal. The pic should explain the rest.
Thanks for the pictures. I may go forward now. HS

Farmer I use a salt grinder that grinds up sea salt, thanks.
since I've been adding salt and drinking an occasional gatorade, I feel a lot better.
So far no cramp attacks in a while.
And I routinely put raisins in my cereal.
I'd sure rather treat this with diet than pills.

Drew, diatomaceous earth will kill the ants and not harm the food. I use it all the time for fleas and ticks where my outside cats stay, and in the flower beds, gets rid of ground bound critters and doesn't hurt the butterflies up in the blooms.

Ever tried diatomaceous earth on moles/voles/gophers? Don't like the idea of using poison on those, either...

Went down to Menard's to scope out the faucets ... unfortunately the 11% rebate deal ended yesterday so we held off for the time being. The Woman thinks any leakage is coming from above (just splashed water), going down around the base ... not actually leaking from the faucet itself.

Skipped the bird bath as well ... cheesy white plastic which got the thumbsdown from The Woman. Will try the local garden center and see what they have.

Since Tractor Supply was right across the street, ran in there to see if they had something in a 13" wheel/tire combo with the correct length hub ... and low and behold, they did

Had both 13 x 5.00-6 and 13 x 4.00-6 ... odd thing was though, the 4 inch wide tires were rated for 30 lbs more than the 5 inch wide ones were (330 lbs vs 300 lbs), according to the tag on the bin. Both tubed, both 2 ply, both with solid rims and unfortunately both with shielded (not sealed) bearings ... which will have a fairly short life I'd imagine.

Walked out with a pair of the 13 x 5.00-6 ... which got the dump wagon functioning again. Probably grab a couple more next weekend and just go ahead and replace the other two. Then after that I'll do the water buffalo.

Cut down the weeds around the pool and then sprayed the area with 3 1/2 gallons of round up.

No more wood or chips delivered.

Good evening all. 75F and mostly clear skies, with very light wind. Made it to 97F with moderate breeze. After chapel watched some Tour de France and wife watched some British Open before attending a couples golf event. Heat was not too bad so was able to make the dinner as well. Nice easy day. Tomorrow will feature a bike ride and lawn mowing in the morning and consulting in the afternoon.

Good morning. I am pleased to report that our summer arrived yesterday. A whole day of sunshine, little wind and temperatures high enough to comfortably sit outside for every meal. Today should be the same. The ground in the meadow is still sodden though and with rain coming again later in the week, it's looking like hay making is still a long way off.

Yesterday I put the old storm door and a couple of worn out Patio chairs out next to the road. I figured they would last less than a hour. Must have been a slow day. Took 3 hours for someone to pick them up. I always wonder what someone is going to do with the junk.

Good way to save a trip to the dump and let someone recycle things. Do you have a "Take me I'm yours" sign alongside, or is it customary where you live to take things at the roadside without asking if it's ok to have them?

Well baby's furniture is here. But still needs to be unloaded.
Sounds like you have everything about ready - now just baby left to "unload" :)

60 right now...heading up to 81 and maybe a spot of rain.
Heading to a dentist later this morning, which is why I'm late posting today. I'm getting prices on a lower plate since I lost that loos tooth a couple weeks back.

Ed if you like hunting and fishing have you visited Dominion Outdoors very nice shop and good people. Bought a few things from them. Two years ago purchased 44mag lever action Marlin basic but nice

Thanks for the tip. I used to hunt and fish a lot, actually a lot is likely an under statement. Then I turned vegan and don't see much point in it anymore. Not into catching a fish and putting it back, fine for other folks just doesn't make sense to me and I will not kill something for sport, if I kill something, other than varmints I am going to eat it. Thanks again, I actually wanted a 44 lever action to go with my Blackhawk just don't need it anymore. Ed
