Well, 40 years ago today I was in Ketchikan Alaska a board USCGC Resolute for the bicentennial. All ships were to blow horns and whistles at 1400 eastern time, the time the deceleration was signed. That was 0800 in Ketchikan. An eagle had landed on the ship just before 0800 and flew off as colors and all the sounds started at 0800.

Good Morning. 0835, clear, 82F with 99% humidity. Forecast high of 88F with 20% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 77F tonight.

I came in from the camp and cooked us up a big breakfast this morning. Bacon and eggs, and a serving of Margie's new watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberry salad. A big change from my usual nuts and berries. We've had big family suppers for the last two nights. Last night at Sister's, the night before here. Lot's of Tampa cousins up for the fourth.

I need to trim under a big oak tree that came down across the path to the blueberry patch at the old house. The tree is on my cousin's land, so I will leave it to him to cut up, but Mamma tried to get through there a couple days ago, and it was too thick for her. {the trunk of the tree is 7-8 feet off the ground} Then I'll try to get down to the creek camp later today. Maybe I can get my feet in the water to cool off without stepping on any tourists. {I wouldn't go on the river today if you paid me}

Hope everyone has a good 4th,

Larro

Hmmm... I have some treasure buried I think outside my yard. Right where I was thinking of putting a garden. What time do y'all get here.
Hey, it worked for Tom Sawyer!

Now that is one way to get the digging finished on my underground camp:eek: Yea, I think I put it right under the dirt ramp there in the corner of the hole. Just keep the sides square please.

75 this morning and headed to 83 today. 1.5 inches of rain overnight and 2 more inches forecast for today.

Take care of chickens and feed calves. Then back to work on the bathroom remodel. Picked up the tub and surround yesterday along with some lumber. But forgot the plumbing supplies so I'll figure it out today and go back I guess.

What a great way to start the day and what a way to say happy birthday America

Good Afternoon, another hot day. Both Whipper and I were traumatized yesterday when 15 city relatives with a few of their friends invaded us with motorcycles, rockets and way too much activity and noise.

At the end of the day, when everyone left, Whipper was missing!

I searched till dark all the trails with the utility vehicle, she loves to run with the utility vehicle, but no whipper. I figured she was not on the property or a timber rattler got her, or maybe she ran into a pack of coyotes.

After Dark I expanded my search and started driving the country roads in my pickup. My rechargeable flash light was already dead and she always runs into fields from vehicles so I had little hope of finding her but I had to do something because I did not have a chance to say goodbye to her.

After about 30 minutes and a mile away from home I thought I I saw a black dog cross the road running into the brush. I stopped the truck and called her but nothing.
I called my wife to bring her vehicle and drive slowly behind me about 50 yards (for light, my iPhone was not quite bright enough) while I called her and walk in the direction of home. I figured If she heard my voice she would follow along in the brush. After about a half mile she passed my wife's car and came to me to be petted and took the lead home. I think she thought I was lost.

Everything is finally back to normal but Whipper and I are still exhausted. She never leaves the yard much less the property unless she is with us, so this really surprised and exhausted us.

(Ron, she was found on the other side of the low water crossing.)

Don, I knew that doggie has stolen your heart. Glad she got y'all home safe and sound. Didn't she find y'all years ago, after a thunderstorm or fireworks event?

am going to have a lot of gasket scraping to do tomorrow but got the tiller chain case off and everything looked just fine in there. Not much wear on the sprockets at all and just a fine layer of rust on some areas; easily cleaned off.

Drew, everything looks great mechanically. Just get off all the old oils. RNG's sealant recommendation comes with experience. Some of those types are semi-hardening and some are fully hardening. With no major internal pressure build up, you could probably get by with black RTV oil resistant silicone....your choice.

I had my chainsaw worked on the other day. They replace the carb, which fixed the original problem ( saw would not run in some angles). But the idle is now so high, the chain does not stop running, have to use the chain brake. I took some covers off to slow the idle down, but there is no idle speed adjustment :confused2: :thumbdown:. Anyone else seen this? Stihl chainsaw.
Sounds like they used an aftermarket carb. Can you get the original back and clean it? Did it have an adjustment for idle?

Neat. Glad that our nation does not have to parade nuclear missles down the esplanade to show off.

thanks guys, just got back from fixing my friend's closet, which hopefully will hold now that it's glued and screwed, and picking up a tube
of Permatex ultra grey which states: Suggested Applications: Valve covers, oil pans, intake manifold end seals, timing covers, water pumps, thermostat housings
Oil pan and timing cover references seemed to apply here.
But yes, in a low pressure, low heat application like this the cheapest rtv would likely work, particularly since this is a belt and suspenders application. And I will not skimp and bought the next larger size so I can run a thin bead around the whole thing. And i will tighten down firmly but not too tight. Can always tighten a little more. If it's not dripping, going to leave it alone.

Ron, they sure spliced that together seamlessly.

Kyle, Whipper showed up during one of our weekly volleyball games about 6 years ago. She kept her distance and we left her some cat food in the field. It took another month before she let us pet her. She was 6-8 months old and very skinny.

During thunderstorms and fireworks she has her nose on the door wanting to come in but has no interest coming inside other times. She has a bed on the porch in the Winter and in the Summer prefers a sand hole under the cedar tree. She keeps the wildlife out of her yard and keeps Gray2 protected.

Oh, my niece has signed for season I, 12 episodes.

70°F and .49 inches rain last 24 hours.

Looks like a great day to celebrate the 4th!!!

Be safe
Have a great day

glad I remembered to get a gasket scraper because that old cork gasket was difficult to get off.
Cleaned all the gunk out, not much metal in the bottom and now waiting for everything to fully dry from
cleaning chemicals before I put the gasket on and cover back on. Will finish it tomorrow.
I'm going to guess the chain scrapes on the side of the case was from someone running too fast.

actually when the thing is filled to the proper overfill spot, the case is over half full, not what I thought.
I hope the size of the pics is better.

74F and cloudy @ 12:15 with the possibility of a shower today, which is definitely needed.

I got the front lawns mowed yesterday, wife did around the house with the Simplicity.

After that, I took the MMM off and put the loader and box blade back on and moved the compost pile from the year before last to the pile of screenings from the last time I screened, which was two or three years ago I think.

After dinner I swapped out the bucket and put the grapple on and we had a couple of friends over for a bonfire. Lots of folks setting off fireworks in the area. Got the last of the brush from the garden area clearing project burned.

The main activity today will be heading into the commercial property to cut the weeds down ... assuming we can locate the shoulder strap for the Stihl brush cutter which has come up missing ... :confused2:

Hope everyone has a pleasant and enjoyable Independence Day.

Drew, were that my piece of equipment, I'd go back over those sealing surfaces with a single edge razor blade and clean up the bits of old gasket and sealer. They may not look like much, but in my experience they'll likely cause leaks, even when using a sealer. Hold the blade almost flat against the surface, then raise the back just enough to get it to cut. If it starts to dig in, flatten it out. A stiff wire brush is also handy for this kind of work. As is an extra helping of patience.

The pics are still way over size on my monitor, still can't see the entire picture without scrolling.
