well now that my pics have overwhelmed you RNG, did you see anything on the gears or chain that needed attention besides cleaning?

The sprocket in the photo (sorry, it was so big I couldn't tell which one) does show some wear, but nothing I'd worry about. If you can find it, use some Threebond 1207 sealant on the gasket (both sides) when you put it back together. It'll never leak again.

It's not so much the size, Drew, but the data consumed by transmitting such large images. Data on the server hard drives, but especially the bite taken out of us miserable satellite Internet users' miserly data caps. :cryingeyesout: 2 meg is still huge. I run photos down to 12" on the longest dimensions at 72 dpi and they usually end up at a couple hundred kilo bytes. They're still quite legible for most folks.

thanks for the tip on the gasket maker/sealer. I'll pick some up tomorrow and maybe a dedicated gasket scraper.
Not sure I want to use my good wood chisels on that...;)
and I have a lot of it to scrape off. Essentially gluing the gasket on makes sense, particularly if the gasket material added
is flexible, which this is.

I love taking things apart when they actually go back successfully.

Spent a most unhappy hour trying to replace the battery in a inside garage door electronic door lock that came totally apart and
was like a brain teaser to put back together.
Now I have to replace the battery in my front electronic door lock too. Pretty sure its unhappy because the panel doesn't light up. And when my oldest brother and his wife were visiting, it took that time to expire, literally launching into a conversation with my SIL when she put her hand on the doorknob,
regarding perhaps its unhappiness. Whatever, the silly door lock was carrying on a conversation of sorts. Good Lord.
AI is coming true. Yes dear, I'm coming with your battery.
I love these electronic locks because I don't have to carry keys.
If there's an emf burst or serious solar flare, I'd better figure out how to get back in when they lose their little minds. Bzzzt.

Don I'm glad you found your dog. Sorry he led you for such a chase. Dogs will be dogs.

Confirmed the scag is running on 1 cylinder, so ignition coil is suspect. Might as well replace both as they are same age (2006). Looks like coils are about $60 each plus shipping.
Got significant mowing done with 2 helpers. :)
Looking forward to 4th gathering and potluck.

Well, the scag bogs down under load. New plugs, filters etc so guessing it must be missing, possibly bad ignition coil.
Got the company mowing with the craftsman mowers while I use my flail.

Had to take a rain break, sun back out so back to work.

Yep, just had one of the ignition coils have intermittent fail, on one cylinder, on my John Deere Z820A ZT at 470 hours, so replaced both. Runs like new again.

Good morning all. I was sure someone here on tbn mentioned today was going to be a special day, but when I looked in my diary there was nothing there, just another very ordinary Monday ahead. I must have got it wrong. Back to work then. Maybe I will go check the mail box again in case the invite came late...

RNG, we bought a popup tent for birthday celebrations a couple of years ago and since then it was doing nothing except take up a little space in the corner of the barn. I though I may as well get it out of the box and use it to work under, like you are planning (although here it tends to keep off more rain off than sunshine) and it has worked really well. The only problem initially was that it would float up like Mary Poppins in the slightest breeze. That gave me a good excuse to play at more welding. Each leg now has a small metal cradle, loaded up with bricks.

Don, sounds like Whipper is none too keen on city folk and decided to put you to a test. You came through real good

67 going to 87 today in another day with thunderstorms, starting at noon, and running all the way through to 9pm, so perhaps when the fireworks start the rain may have stopped. Too bad, lot of picnics going to get wet. Good day for the tents being mentioned!

have errands to run in the morning, want to pick up some gasket maker from whoever is open today, likely Lowes, then spend the afternoon working on the Woods tiller.

Good Morning All. 61 here this morning going to 75 with a 90% chance of rain. Calling for between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch today. It is funny how life changes, I am finding myself thinking, I hope we get more than that, the pool is low. They called for 75 yesterday but it only got to around 65. At least that is what NWS said.
Found a trailer to tow behind the lawn tractor on Craigs List. Supposed to go check it out this am. It will help a lot around here if it woks out.

Daugen Just put a small amount on each side of the gasket. I know of two guys that used almost a whole tube on a gasket about a foot long total. It squeezed out so bad that it did not seal. I scraped it all off and had to work to get enough out of the tube to fix the gasket and the tube was big.

Hmmm... I have some treasure buried I think outside my yard. Right where I was thinking of putting a garden. What time do y'all get here.
Hey, it worked for Tom Sawyer!

I"ll go out to the rental place near here and get their biggest hoe and come out and give it a try. That way I can dig down about 8 or 9 ft so I won't miss anything. Ed

52 right now...high of 84 today.

Was a busy day yesterday...mowing, weed trimming, chipped most of the debris left from the tree that fell on my field a week back. The EGO battery powered chainsaw I wrote about yesterday works great!
I also installed a porch shade with the assistance of my stepdaughter yesterday. That knocks out a lot of the late afternoon sun on the back deck.

Today...probably finish chipping those limbs from the fallen tree. After that, kick back for the day.

thanks Ed. I was going to put a small line of caulk down the center of the gasket, depending upon how fluid it is, I might brush it a little with a glue brush. Figured I'd do the one side first, apply the gasket, do the other side, then put the cover on. And it's all going to stay right in place while I do all of this. yup...
The good news is that the oil/lube only fills up the bottom 8 or ten inches of the cover so the only place to leak is right at the bottom. I don't even have to do anything special for the top 80%; oil never gets there, chain just runs through a pool of oil at the bottom. Need to get some more 90/140 lube today.

Quiz: Can you pass the U.S. citizenship test? - CNN.com

not very hard though am embarrassed to report I really had to stop and think about the Senators, one or two per state.
I should remember, I've been voting for them long enough.
I passed, I guess I can stay...

And as far as 435, that's the hp of a pumped up Cat 3208 diesel, common in larger older boats. Funny way to remember that factoid.

   / Good morning!!!! #47,313
what I found most interesting about that citizenship test is that at the end what I thought was how silly, I bet Eric couldn't pass this and he would make for sure
an outstanding citizen. Yet anyone who memorizes these factoids gets in. And I bet England has something similar and likely we couldn't pass it either.
I mean, how many of us know how many people are in the House of Commons? The House of Lords? (where Lord Salop has a prominent seat)

other than the Canadians, i can't think of any country we are closer to.
Well, I guess if I lived in Southwestern US that would have to include Mexico.

I guess this little test is analogous to an auto license exam for new drivers.

Good Morning! 69F @ 4:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High near 95F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Can't blame Whipper for wanting to get away from all that racket, Don. Glad you found her when you did, though. A black dog on a black road at night is mighty hard for drivers to spot.

Drew, the 1207 is more likely found at a Suzuki or Honda dealer than at Lowes. And most of those will be closed today, especially seeing it's Uncle Sam's Birthday. When your tiller is sitting idle, the oil will be in the bottom of the case, but when that chain starts moving it'll sling oil everywhere inside there, and depending on the speed, it could impact that gasket quite vigorously. That said, a little gasket goo goes a long way. Just a thin coat, thin enough to see through, is plenty. And be careful using a brush. The disposable acid brushes I like to use shed a lot of bristles, and even one stuck in the goo is enough to cause a leak.

Most of the interior surfaces that would normally be left painted on an automobile were covered with a textured plastic/cloth sheet on the van, and the glue used stayed on the surfaces when I peeled what remained of the sheet. A wire brush in the angle grinder takes it right off, along with the paint, but I'll need to wet sand what's left to feather the edges and leave a nice tooth for the primer to key into. So the middle part is done to that stage, leaving to do "only" the driver's cab, where I'll have to figure out how to tuck away the wiring and how far up under the dash I want to shoot. By far most of yesterday's effort was spent figuring out how to get the sliding door swung wide enough to remove a latch on the jamb. Haynes was some help, providing a clue, but it took Bentley's to make it obvious enough for me to catch on. Clever those Germans, with their springs, hidden screws, and subtle cutouts in the track...

I somehow ended up with two gigabytes left on my data cap yesterday, and it renewed last night. It's one of those use it or lose it deals, so I binge watched a half season of Orange Is The New Black yesterday afternoon, and even got in a couple of this season's episodes. Like Breaking Bad, I kept watching to see what horrible thing would happen next, but fortunately it wasn't quite as violent. Unlike BB though, there was quite a bit of humor to keep things balanced. At the end of that experience I'm left to conclude that it's getting pretty strange what passes for entertainment on the small screen these days.

Hope everyone enjoys a happy and safe July fourth. Even you, Eric:laughing:

Eric, perhaps someday June 23rd will become your version of our July 4th Independence Day? Many similarities in events and circumstances.

Good morning! It never got out of the 80s overnight so we start off warm and just get hotter.
I got two leaks to fix this week:
1. Yamaha Adventure 2 is leaking transmission oil - this should be under warranty but will take a day to transport and another to pick up.
2. Home AC evaporator coil is leaking refrigerant. needs replacement. My nephew that visited Saturday, looked at it and will give me a bid tomorrow. I was surprised he would make a 125 mile service call but is his company and the distance does not bother him. He is doing quite well with just referrals.
Have a safe 4th!
