Good morning!!!!

There's a longer story. I saw a field today about the size of mine, full of round bales. I told her "I should have bought a round baler yrs ago and sold the hay, instead of mowing it down."

The real story is my 92 yo dad's square baler from the 50's is not tieing right, and it's hard for him to make square anyways. I offered to buy him a round baler, but he says no, he needs to stop making hay. Of course he has been telling me that for 5 yrs or more, but every year he keeps making hay.

My plan is to buy the baler "for me to bale my field", but loan it to him for the time being.

The last 2 yrs he got someone to bale some rounds for him, but he hasn't found anyone this yr. I set him up with bale spears a couple yrs ago.

He already square baled about 300 bales from his 2 acre orchard, said it was so thick he had a hard time raking it.

I bought him the L5030 about 10 yrs ago, and it has helped him tremendously. My brothers and sisters want him to stop making hay, but he likes it and doesn't want to get rid of all thecows.

Most of us live too far away to come on short notice to help, although i try to visit during hay season.

Going to start moving the furniture out of the storage units today and need to mow grass sometime. Friday Wife and I are going to have a day off to do what we want. Planning to start with breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then figure it out from there.

Ed, you need to do something about the rumours circulating TBN.

Do tell us, is your "Friday Wife", simply akin to Robinson Crusoe and his "Man Friday", or could it really be true that you have a different wife for each day of the week ?

Good morning. Just taken a cup of tea upstairs to my wife. She was sat up in bed with only crackles emanating from the radio. I hadn't realised it was a two minute silence, in honour of all those men who died in the battle of the Somme one hundred years ago today.

Buckeye, that's about as good as it gets for justifying a baler. Guess it's a tough one though with all the potential family conflicts. If you want a blameless decision, you can always spin a coin.

74 sticky degrees out not going up that much today into 80's in thunderstorms and heavy rain coming in off the coast at 10am. So I have a three hour window to get some mowing done and get a load of ABC Crusher Run delivered.

The stone is for my field culvert, the one I built and when I tried to take the travel trailer over it to park by the barn it was clear that was enough things hanging down that the bottom might scrape. So...doing what I knew I needed to do from the beginning, ordered another load of expensive (410 bucks for 15 tons) stone to properly level out the hump. It's one thing to get the truck, mower and tractor over it, but clearly the travel trailer insisted on a smoother ride. Or it would protest expensively...

I figure I can keep working on spreading the stone even if it starts raining; nice thing about a cab tractor. Now I have to get the rototiller off and the rear blade put on. Helper showing up at 8:30am; going to let him do the hand stone raking for sure. Going to be close to get this done, big weather system off shore looks ready to roll in. Then the system from out West comes this way and it looks like a week of rain here. Yikes, i'll never get off the mower.

65 going to 90. Rumbles outside and dark sky in the SW just before the thunderstorm arrives to welcome in July.

Buckeye, I think it's great that your dad is still making hay and driving a tractor at 92. Round baler sounds like the ticket.

Thomas, love hearing about your deer and turkey. We had to stop to let some hens and poults cross the road on the way to town Wednesday...glad the spring rains didn't spoil their nesting.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 59° with rain this morning. Heading to 74° with rain changing to sunny skies. We have almost .3" of rain this morning. Not much more coming. Then it's back to another dry spell. This should get weeds in lawn growing. Grass is pretty much done for until fall. 14 year old Grandson is coming over today to spread mulch that has been setting in trailer since May. Going to be fun showing him how to operator the tractor. More walking and resting after the tractor project.
Buckeye, baler for 2 acres. Hey, you have my OK.:D
Ed, one little grammar error can get you into a lot of trouble.
Good Morning All.

Good morning all, 62 going to 87, with 20% chance of thunderstorms. Could be heavy rain, large hail.............. Looking forward to today. This will be our first day out in a good while. Cracker Barrel and then do some shopping, and then likely some work moving mere furniture to the house from the storage unit.

Eric Wife liked the Friday thing. She knows about my punctuation already. I hope I put in enough ,,,,,, to last a while up above. If I run out let me know.

Farmer We ought to take up a collection, that is the best reason I have heard in a long time for buying a bailer. I'd kick in $20 if it gets going. Ed

Good morning! 71˚ heading to high 90s, clear skies.

Buckeye, I knew there was more to the story, I didn't picture you like some of the TBNers that have a half acre and think they need a 75hp tractor. My Dad is 88 and still works on his tractor also so I know how you feel. Slowly all his jobs are becoming mine with his eyesight dimming. We need to keep them happy and active as long as they want.

Commas are important or people's imagination in other countries will run wild!

Today is the quiet day before the invasion. The city folks are coming and They need warnings about the spiders, snakes, bees, hidden washouts and trees and how not to run over Whipper in the golf utility vehicle when she catches a scent and dashes in front of the tires. My trails are in bad shape this year because of all the fallen trees and rain. Actually I have no trails anymore and the field grass is waist high so all we have is the driveway road that goes through the middle of the property and it is still wet in some areas that are still seeping.

Good Morning! 75F @ 4:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 101F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Today is supposed to be the last of the 100+F days for a week; our relief will consist of low to mid 90s for highs and low 60s for lows. Not much of a break, but I'll take 10 degrees if that's all that Mother Nature is making available.

Buckeye, your father's gonna do what makes him happy, and at 92 he's earned the right to whatever he wants. It's a shame other family members would conspire to take that away from him, no doubt "for his own good". If you can be his partner in "crime", more power to you!

One nice thing about spreading that gravel in the rain, Drew, is the water will help it compact as you "wheel roll" it with the tractor.

I know what you mean about the invasion, Don. Here the boaters swarm the reservoir, and some of them are pretty careless. Noise day and night, but the worst is camping on the shore with campfires. They're not supposed to do it, but every year I go down to the shore after the holiday and find it strewn with trash and smoldering fire rings. I try to be home in case one gets away, not that there's much I could do to help put it out, other than call in the alarm if I see it first.

A comma is a powerful thing. Some in this country would try to put some extra ones in the 2nd Amendment, and use them to separate us from our right to bear arms. However in Kaliformia the politicians prefer to ignore it outright: Twelve new bills are headed to the governor's desk that will do little more than make tens of thousands of new criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens and waste hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on the resulting lawsuits.

Got a haircut yesterday. The shop is down to one barber (the owner), who has instituted an appointment system to more efficiently manage the customer wait. It's working so well that the shop is virtually deserted, and the lively conversations that used to take place between the clientele are gone, too. But that hasn't slowed the barber any; he's an Englishman and is very happy with the results of the Brexit vote. He claims that the middle class has vanished in Merry Ol' England, resulting in a widening gap between haves and have nots. His conclusion is that the vote was the result of the have nots rising up and sticking it to the haves, as the negative economic impacts will be more severe for those with something to lose.

I usually open the sliding glass doors in the morning to let cool air circulate through the house, and this morning I can hear the low moaning of what I think is a mountain lion on the hunt. Just before that came the braying of a mule or donkey, he probably heard the lion, too. Last week I read a thread somewhere in which the claim was made that it was easy to confuse the braying of a mule with the howling of a coyote. I suppose anything is possible, especially if you've never heard either.

TGIF folks!

I woke up to a Bi Centennial commercial, I looked over at my wife and she wasn't 23, that's when I realized it was a news story! :D

Anyway, with that fantasy gone....Overcast and sticky as a kid in a candy store, storms later. Going to look an Agco Allis later.

75 ish here this AM. I'm off today, so I get to stay home and terrorize the family..... Especially my wifey this Friday.

"Feels Like Temps" are going to dangerous levels the next few days, with Sunday being the highest forecasted at 107 degrees.

Punch list today includes spraying for insects, I use some stuff called Demon because it is supposed to work on scorpions although I haven't seen scorpions in their usual places. We are having an infestation of some small beetles about 8-10 mm long (I put it in mm so Eric could follow along :) ). I have one of those bug zapper lights running outside and it is almost catching fire zapping this beetle infestation. I have it about 6 meters from my barn in case it catches fire...I'm here to tell you those zapped, burning beetles stink to high heavens.

We got a decent rain shower a few days back, but I'm starting to get the usual dry cracks in my clay soil yard. Usually in late July and August, they get to be almost 3" wide and go waaay deep. Maybe 1 meter.

RNG, do you carry in case of mountain lions? I've seen video of them stalking and pouncing, and they are quite stealthy. A fun thing to do if you have absolutely nothing to do would be to go to the public boat launch and watch the rookie boat launching show. It can be hilarious at times, with husbands yelling at wives or kids about what to do or not do.

Buckeye, I wish I had a round baler, but those things are pricey. Like close to $40,000 new. Sounds like Drew could use one too with all that mowing.

Ed, enjoy your day with your wife de jour. :)

Ron, get a little better day by day. Glad you have nice weather for your walk. Stop to smell the roses. Does your 14 year old grandson know how to drive the tractor?

Buppies, hope you're feeling better too.

Good day all!

73 headed to 86 today. Light rain in the area this morning.

Once rain moves out I need to get some cows up and treated for flies. They are getting bad this year. Then work on spreading some concrete remnants that I had piled for road repairs. These roads are just farm roads for me but have gotten bad enough that 4wd's are having trouble during wet weather. Maybe I'll have time to cut some firewood later.

Buckeye that's as good of a reason to buy a round baler as any.

Farmer, how's your boy doing? Is he in Popsicle heaven?

Kyle. He's doing good. He's a much different kid in a hospital. In the hospital he layed in the bed and didn't move. Even after they took the iv out of his foot. He got home yesterday and went back to a lot of his normal stuff. We've been having a hard time getting him to calm down. You wouldn't know he had surgery 2 days ago by his actions. He's slacked off the Popsicles and has now switched to yogurt and fruit. He's been turning down ice cream also. Although he did ask for a honey bun last night.
This getting him to drink every 2 hours when he's asleep is back firing. At 2 hours I can get him to take water from a syringe and stay asleep. At 4 hours he wakes up and is up for the rest of the night. Let's just say wife's not in a good mood.
