Busy day again. Worked at my sisters place until about one, then over to the rental to let in a drywall guy. Then to Lowes to pick stuff up, then home to wrk in the yard. Somewhere in there was lunch and helping the wife out a bit. Hope you guys had a productive day.

What is the punishment for committing a murder on your side of the pond

There is no death penalty in the UK, so the punishment is always prison - for those that get caught. The very worst are unlikely ever to be released, others typically being 15 - 30 years, depending on circumstances.

One of the most controversial cases of recent times involved a farmer called Tony Martin who was convicted of murder for shooting at 2 people who broke into his home one night, killing one of them. I wonder if he would have been convicted if he had lived in America ? Tony Martin (farmer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The wiki article is out of date. It says, he was arrested in 2015 and charged with possessing an air rifle, but it was subsequently found to be so rusty that it couldn't be fired, so they had to drop the charge.

Good morning, another wet one on the way. Ground is getting really soft and ponds are full to the point of overflowing.

I ought to go walk the hay field and pull up ragwort that will no doubt be thriving in these conditions.

warm day today, 74 now going up to 92. A few showers about, then some later this afternoon. And more tomorrow. But then a nice weekend.
was nice to get my car back finally, though now the windshield washer doesn't work;likely disconnected to do the belt work but now airlocked or something. Need to run it through its cycle three or four times to see if it will get primed; if not back to the shop and let them fix it. I don't hear a pump whine but maybe there isn't any.
I'm going to take it outside in the rain in a little bit and test it; didn't want to do that on a dry windshield. Otherwise it ran great, nice to finally get a NC tag on it and get the temp PA off it. A First In Flight tag was chosen, Wilbur and Orville having gone flying not all that far from me.

All I have planned this morning is to trailer my Cub Cadet and take it down to the CC/Kubota dealer, along with my new CC/MTD (identical to Remington) walk behind string trimmer. Bad design on the tension pulley underneath. Now out of alignment with pulley stuck and belt burning. I fixed it the first time, now they can fix it under warranty and hopefully replace the pulley. Simple little machine, about the only moving part other than the engine broke... I don't have a choice here but I'm not a fan of MTD products. Always built to a price, not a quality level. But they own the low end market here with I guess Husqvarna taking over at the next level, and then going to first tier after that. As long as one gets what one pays for, all is fair. There seems always to be a market for a $899 riding mower.

correction: I should add that CC is MTD's top line, so some of their better garden tractors are decent. I just bought one so we shall see.

72 humid foggy degrees out. Dead still air. Might hit 90, and hopefully rain tonight - first in 10 days.

Early county meeting and haircut, then the gym.

Went to a great outdoors reggae concert last night with wife and son. Couple of great bands, one from Hawaii.

Coon problems here, too...have to bring in all bird feeders each night...including the many hummingbird feeders.

Good morning all. 71 going to 91 with a 40% chance of thunder storms this PM. Going to do a little but very little. Time for an easy day. Maybe some tea by the pool, or just in the lazy boy. You all have a great day. Ed

That sounds like a fine idea. You have sure earned it.
Just have a pad and pencil nearby for what you remember you need to do tomorrow.
But today, find some mint for that tea and put your feet up. All batteries need a recharge.

Next we'll get to work on RS putting his feet up for the day. Like that would happen.
I'm sure his adoring wife would wait on him hand and foot. Constant food and drink and sole possession
of the remote.

71 this morning and headed to 98 today. About .75 inches of rain overnight. Ground plenty wet.

Get last half of birds today. Then the cylinder to the dozer is ready so I'll put it back together. Well once the mud drys some. Someone parked it on freshly spread dirt when the cylinder blew. Was wanting to mow but it'll probably be to wet to do that. Maybe I can get some time in at building. Everyday my wife reminds me I have fewer days till baby is due.

Good Morning! 54F @ 5:45AM. A mix of clouds and sun early followed by cloudy skies this afternoon. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 72F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

The steady rain and quarter inch accumulation we were threatened with yesterday thankfully failed to materialize. I say thankfully because I'm headed over the mountains this morning for points east on another motorcycle trip, and while it's no great disaster to get wet, it's not the best way to start off. Never been to this particular rally, but it's at the edge of Utah's Color Country in a little town called Panguitch. No doubt I'll see some hoodoos and other marvelous rock formations, and have a photo or two to share along the way if I can find some wifi.

Dropped by the van mechanic's place yesterday where I picked up a pair of machining assignments. One involves trimming down the splined mounting flanges for the brake rotors, the other machining out some material on the cylinder head to drop the compression a little. Both are a result of combining parts that were never intended to meet, but that his experience has found to be quite compatible with just a little massaging. His last attempt at the head machining was done on a drill press with a router bit, so hopefully this time around the results will be a bit more satisfactory. Just to make sure we're not cutting things too thin, though, he sent me home with a scrap head with instructions to section it several times through the area where the machining is to be done, so we'll know how much thickness remains above the water jacket. That also means I'll have a part to practice on before I have to do the real thing. That's a real comfort, since I haven't done anything like this before.

Hang in there gang, Friday's comin'!

If the Jag has wiper arms that flip up it would keep the blades off the windshield while you did the testing and you wouldn't ruin your wax job out in the rain. But might you want to throw a rag over the spray nozzles to avoid a blue mess?

Good Morning 79˚ heading to 97˚ with no chance of rain. Time for an easy day of tea by the pool after I clear my back road of a large cedar that has been blocking it since the April 30th wind storm. It might be dry enough to get the tractor down there - there are only two places where water is still running on the road as it is seeping down through the sand hill.

I'm recovering this morning from 3 long intense games of water volleyball yesterday evening. Water temp was 86˚. Time to put up a few more sails to block the harsh sun on the pool and keep the water temp below 90˚.

In light of our conversation related to homicide rates and firearms ownership, the FBI has just released 2014 figures and they are the lowest since the mid '60s. This article contains the details, then goes on to explore why the current cries for more anti-gun legislation make no sense:

Back when AT&T gave away a phone every 2 years, with a new 2 year commitment, my wife went from a 4S iPhone to 5S iPhone. So instead of buying a new iPhone SE, I found and activated her old 4S to practice on. Our plan has a shared data so total cost of changing to "Smart" was $0. I have installed the new VFD dispatch app that works great on it so I will just keep this one a while until I loose it or drown it. I do need a new case as suggested, the aqua polkadot case clashes with my Real Tree camo shirt.

Any other must have apps? This is day 2 of entering the world of the "Smart Phone". It sure is a lot easier to text without hitting the 2 key three times to enter a "c" on the flip phone. I do find it easier to use it with the stylus -a case with a stylus would be nice.

Currently 68F with sun starting to break through. Woke all the way up around 08:00 and WeatherBug was advising a Dangerous Thunderstorm Warning with a storm in Dalton and headed our way. Wasn't too long after that that we got the deluge.

Local weather station has been down since 6/7 so no way of knowing how much we really got right around here, but AccuWeather reports .32" ... between the storm that rolled thru last night and this one this morning I figure it's got to be at least double that ... which is a good thing, as we really needed the rain.

Possibility of more thunderstorms later today.

Got the dirt mostly cleaned off 8 large stumps yesterday and got them hauled to the south property line and positioned along it. Filled in where the runoff was starting to cut a gully on the east side, still another large gully on the west side but that will have to wait until it dries up again.

IMG_0498.jpg

Did some clean up on the roots that were left from digging the stumps out and got the holes partially filled in. Also positioned some brush in preparation for the next burn.

Oh yeah ... also got Rocky planted after his swimming lesson:

Morning guys,

Cooled down nicely overnight and should not get above 79 today. Back up tomorrow. The 2.2" of rain we got in the last 48 hours and the high temps has given birth to every example of non-desirable bug know to the forest around us and they are all hungry for flesh or blood.

Dr apt at 10:30 this morning then, not sure.
