And I'll let the real farmers like Farmer do the "decrusting". Whatever that is...doesn't sound good. ;)

I always enjoy it when farmer talks of decrusting his chickens. As I may have said before, it brings back fond memories from when we first bought this house, when it was just a derelict pigsty and barn. Upstairs it had been used to keep chickens. Unfortunately it hadn't been cleaned out in a long long time. Chicken poop was well and truly encrusted on the floor, up to 3 feet in depth and all over the roof trusses. Water had also run through numerous holes in the roof and rotted away the floor timber in many places, making clearing it all out a bit of a challenge.

This was the last of the crust.

Good morning all. 66F this morning calm with overcast. .6 in in rain gauge, no water over the low water crossing, and radar looks reasonably rain free so I feel a bike ride happening soon. Need to get my consulting list shorter, and my prep for for Fault Line list shorter.

That's what I have to do with my spider bite. After 3 weeks the deep scab is about to come off leaving a nice little dimple.
68˚, foggy rain through Saturday. In-between the showers the State and County have been repairing roads, no more detours, yea!

The backhoe got fixed just in time, as soon as it stops raining I got a job to do in the cemetery.

I saw a silver dollar sized wolf spider in the barn. I let him be and told him to go get those recluse spiders.

RS, at least you could see the "repair", and had what was needed to easily repair it. Back when I used to loan out tools I'd sometimes get back something that no longer worked properly and had to guess what was wrong, all because the person I'd lent it to was too embarrassed to tell me what had happened. Now I only see that sort of thing when I buy something off Craig's List...

69 this morning and headed to 88 today. Currently 85.

Have already loaded the bull to go to dads for the summer. Now need to see if new metal order came in and go get it. Then will be doing some bushhoging.

Drew. Decrusting is probably better described as decaking. We take out the clumps of manure. Which in turns takes the moisture out. Leaving a nice dry floor for the birds to walk on.

66°F and 1.96 inches rain last 24 hours.
My heart and prayers goes out to all those in the Texas flooding.

Be safe
Have a great day

This is the machine we pull through the barns to do the decrusting. Housekeeper Dump-Body Model 2 LP | Lewis Brothers Mfg.

it's a poop picker upper...pretty high tech, 3 tons of the good stuff. Did I read of some operation where animal poop, not sure this is chickens...fell through grates in a floor and was taken off by moving belts underneath? I guess your chickens must fly or how else could you have this stuff on your ceiling beams? Chicken manure is pretty "hot", where does it go to "cool off"?

thunderstorms chased me in off the mower, but I got quite a bit done. Showered and now off to read the car manual on interlocks.

U.B. brought down a load of P.T. 10 by's or 12 by's from our old deck around the pool which we had given him when we took the deck down. Gonna say they are 14' or 16' long. He decided he wasn't going to use them for anything. Unloaded them off his trailer onto the pallet forks and there they sit until I can figure out a place to store them.

Got lawn around house mowed and got self showered. Both really needed it ...

Now I'm going to check tire pressures on the Simplicity and its little tow-behind dump wagon, then head over to the polebarn and collect up some tools that really need to be stored over here at the house, try and figure out where the step ladder is ... so I can check and see if the bees are in the attic, and if they aren't, try and locate the flat pry bar so I can start taking off the exterior siding on the back of the garage before this guy gets here this evening.

I really hope they are in the attic ... cause then I get to go cut steel ... :D

The entertainment/comedy factor (of the attempted "repair") alone was worth the small amount of effort required to make a proper repair ... :D

If it hadn't broken on him, it probably would have broken on me ... ;)

Drive tires and tail wheel tire on Simplicity properly inflated. Right side drive tire and tail wheel tire are going to need to be replaced, very badly cracked. Fortunately I have a brand new tire for the tail wheel up in the shop ... and it's the correct one even, unlike the one that's on there now.

Attempted to inflate the flat tire on the dump wagon ... no soap, won't hold pressure ... badly cracked. Fortunately this size is on sale right now for $14.99 at Harbor Freight. Even comes with a pretty white wheel. Might get two.

Ladder located (right behind where I'm typing this ... duh) and attic over garage checked. Unfortunately no bees.

Roto-zip and air nailers retrieved from polebarn. No sign of flat pry bar. Next try will be the shop.

Think I will have the bandsaw cut some steel (finally !) while I'm looking ... :D

My experience with Harbor Freight pneumatic tires is that they don't hold air and every time I want to move something that uses one, I first have to run the compressor and drag out an air hose. McMaster-Carr, on the other hand, can provide tires and tubes that seldom need air. Guess where I buy mine from now?

No sign of flat pry bar in shop.

It occurs to me that it was taken into the commercial property in town. Good case for tool boxes and taking it back home when leaving.

I did manage to get all the straight/90 degree cuts done on the square tube for the screener while I was up there tho' ... :D:

Still have 6 pieces to cut with 45's ...

The bee guy just called ... he's on his way ... will be here in about 30 minutes.

Says not to worry - he's got the pry bars covered.

Film at 11:00 ...

Got the weeding done of that planting bed done the other day ... with the help of The Woman. Also added some more composted soil ... still needs more tho' ...:

Kinda surprised they made it. By the time we got them pulled out of the plastic bags she had gotten them in, and bedded in peat moss for the winter, they were all covered in white mold.

Chinese rubber is for _____ ...

Why else do you think they have that huge population ?

Heading to their website now ...

(... anything to avoid the compressor and air hose routine ...)

Good morning all. Not so bright today, doubt that we will be having lunch on the patio like the last few days.

Shame about the picnic Drew, although as you say. a good thing the Jag played up when you were still at home. Happening so soon after you bought it must make you wonder if that has happened to the previous owner, possibly what made them decide to sell. Congrats on the land , pleased to hear it all finally went through without a hitch.

Heard on the radio at the weekend that a tiny wasp has been released to reduce the number of emarald ash borer beatle in most of your states, although it sounds as though it's come too late for your trees.

A fungus called Chalara fraxinia has beat the beatle to these shores. It is thought to have come in with imported trees and is now wiping out almost all ash trees in it's path. A very small percentage of ash may have some genetic resistance, all hope now is on being able to propogate from these.

Yep they are all dead Eric, has been in the works for about 10 years. Almost afraid what those tiny wasps will do. Everything leads to another. My best guess is at least 20% of our woods is now dead. Sad.

Well I busted my butt and I mean I busted my butt on the eve above the roof of Sandra's garage, Did not kill myself and got everything done. ( I thought) Darn, I can't do sh%$ anymore and the brain don't age. I hurt everywhere. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO when I get down and move the lift out of the way so Sandra can get back in her garage,,,I look up at the peak and see a 10" spot I missed........&^%$# IT!!!!!And BTW,,the lift is stuck in the driveway and I can't get it back where I had it to finish. Done for now. Hot tub and another day should be better......

I only have one HF tire, it's on my steel drop side wagon, so far 50 lbs every time I check it. Many car/ truck tires on the roads today are Chinese. I don't love it, they have a lot of issues with balance, tread separation, etc...

Good morning, still on the cool side, with a high of only 16C today. That suits me fine, I could do with my head staying cold as my wife has a virus that left her coughing and spluttering over this last week and now she has very generously decided to share it with me.

farmer, I hadn't expected to be reading a manual for a chicken cake decrusting machine while munching my breakfast cereals. Interesting piece of equipment, does it kick up much dust, or is there enough moisture in there when it is still fresh to hold the cake together as it is lifted ?

57 right now...looks like a high of 81 and clear today.

Saw a leak under the F150 when I got home yesterday. It was around the transmission and whatever it was, the drops evaporated pretty fast (on an asphalt driveway). It wasn't green, like anti-freeze and it didn't smell like gasoline. I did put my finger in one of the drops...brownish and somewhat slippery.
I'm not sure what it was, but my guess is transmission oil...and probably one of the lines going to the front cooler. I'm going to check this out today.

Anyway, mowed the backyard fenced in area, one side yard and my "island" in the middle of the driveway loop. This was done as the late afternoon cooled a bit
