49F and clear, high today could hit 60F ... looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.

Dunno exactly what I'm gonna do today, but it's a fairly good bet that it will involve security in one form or another - either mine and The Cake's ... or the security of the residents of the community I live in.

As to our recent adventures, meet my (former, occasional) helper and (wanna be) "buddy", Seth Austen Finch:

Seth is currently wanted on a Felony Arrest Warrant, issued by the Summit County Sheriff's Department for a probation violation (original crime appears to have been burglary)

Since I have observed him in possession of a firearm (semi-auto 9mm handgun) at one point in the past, and since he has (more or less) very recently stated that he will be dead before he is ever captured and goes back to jail (apparently has a fetish for "suicide by cop"), he should be considered potentially armed, desperate, and possibly very dangerous.

His exact whereabouts are unknown (at least by me), and he may have fled the state to evade capture ... considering that he and his traveling companion/"girlfriend" - a Ms. Jaime Simone (a supposedly "ex" heroin addict, who is allegedly 18 years older than he is ... IOW: 38 years of age) have stated numerous times their intention to get to Florida, where (allegedly) they both have relatives. Their exact destination may be different, and Florida could be a ruse designed to mislead authorities.

Please allow me to finish my story - which is likely to involve multiple posts - about how I came to know and be in contact with these jokers before you inundate me with questions.

Also please consider that the nature of any questions you might ask (and the answers I might give to them) could allow these little morons to evade capture and escape justice. Some questions might be best posed in a PM, or just left unasked in a public forum that he might be able to read. Also consider that I have plenty other stuff to do, to ensure my own security.

It's a good possibility that he might actually make an effort to search the internet to find such posts ... since I have told both of them that I will be making the general public aware of their present circumstances and history.

Seth is a local kid, about 20 years old, who I met, I think, for the first time about 5 years ago when he came to my door and asked if there was any work he could do or help with. At the time, I told him no, I didn't have any work and sent him on his way.

Fast forward to a year or so ago, when he next appears on my radar screen:

I'm up working outside the shop and this kid comes strolling out of the woods on the gas line path/right of way - which is a popular shortcut for many of the local kids. Looks vaguely familiar.

Walks up to me and asks if I own the woods, pointing (... nope … not that part) 'cause he's looking to find a place to hunt deer during bow season. I explain that I don't own the woods but know the guy who does - and considering he has it posted with "No Trespassing" signs he probably won't give him permission. But he can try if he wants to ask him and I give him the property owners name.

Then he asks who owns my woods (pointing at it) Tell him I do, but I'm not real keen on having it hunted (neighbors, relatively close proximity to houses … and we just kinda like having the deer around)

Says he's an "experienced" tree service guy who can climb and has his own gear and he will work for me in exchange for access to hunt it. He is enthusiastic and seems eager to work.

Tell him that I'd have to talk to The Cake and discuss it with her. He persists and asks "Well, show me what work you'd like to have done … and you can discuss it with your wife later."

So I take him down around the house and show him the tree trimming I want done.

I figured that I'd probably have a real sell job to do with The Woman … as she likes the wildlife, not to mention he looks pretty young.

But I like to see a young person who is motivated and willing to work … it's something to be encouraged.

And I was correct about the wife's thoughts and considerations … she was agin it … but I pointed out that it was expensive work to hire done, that I wasn't in a position to do it myself, and it really did need done.

Ultimately she relented without too much argument.

So we set up a time for Seth to come over and start - with the proviso that I didn't want him doing any work until I was up and outside to supervise, and serve as his groundsman.

That morning arrived and I was awoken by the sound of a chainsaw ... I figured I'd better get up and see what the heck was going on ...

Wasn't too long after that that I heard a loud scream and cries of "Help ... help ..."

The little moron was up in a maple tree, trying to take down a 20' or 25' limb (8" around at the base), and had cut threw it, and the limb - which he had tied off further out - had swung back into the tree and pinned his leg against the trunk.

Ultimately, I was able to pull the limb out far enough for him to get his leg free and get down.

That was the first clue that this idiot didn't have much in the way of common sense (young, dumb, and full of ***)

After ensuing that he was not seriously hurt, I read him the riot act ... which involved a fair amount of screaming on my part, as well as a decent of amount of ridicule as to how he could be so frickin' stupid.

He was a disaster just waiting to happen.

Good Morning. 1040, sunny, 70F with 61% humidity. Forecast high of 75F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 50F tonight.

I'm on day 3 of my late nights/early mornings. When I laid down at 0300, I set the alarm for 0600. You don't have to be great at math to know there isn't a lot of time in between. Another party til midnight tonight. Sleep on Sunday.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

David, nice mower.

Eric, most of my shotguns are pumps. I have always liked them. To the best of my knowledge, I don't have any shotgun semi-auto's. {but then I do have lots of guns, so there may be one I'm forgetting} I do have a few rifles in semi-auto, but most are bolt action, pump or single shot.

Edit: I'm a month and a day past my birthday, and I just realized I didn't buy myself a gun this year. Maybe my collecting fever is cooling.

To make a very long story shorter, during the intervening time from then to present, Seth has repeatedly shown up on my property - most often when I'm up in the shop working - and tried to endear himself and buddy up with me.

I have mostly kept him at arms-length and tried not to encourage him coming around ... because the more I found out about him, the more "red flags" presented themselves.

Some of those "red flags" were:

1. By his own admission, as a juvenile, he was admitted (or perhaps committed, by his parents) to the psychiatric ward of a local hospital at least once. Generally speaking, I try to avoid being associated with folks who have been under the care of psychiatrists and/or are taking mind-altering psychiatric drugs - such drugs having a known association - even if only anecdotal - with acts of senseless violence, committed by those taking them.

2. Seth claims he is the way he is, at least partly due to his mother being overly protective and willing to coddle and protect him from the consequences of his actions. Since I have at least one report from a former employer of Seth's that seems to corroborate that, that indeed may be the case.

3. He, by his own admission, has run afoul of the law on more than one occasion. Interestingly, to hear Seth tell it, it's always someone else's fault that he broke the law ... or it wasn't actually him that did it (he's being blamed for acts committed by someone else)

IOW: he is actually the VICTIM ...

Example:

According to what Seth told me, his first misadventure with the law was about a year or so ago, when he was visiting at a former girlfriend's house ... she wanted him to stay the night, but he had to go to work in the morning (... back when he had an actual job) He said he eventually decided to go home and was stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol I believe on the way home and had his vehicle searched and the trooper discovered a small amount of marijuana ...

He was cited for a DUI, and ultimately lost his driver's license (and vehicle as well I believe)

But it was the girlfriend's fault ... because she wanted to have Seth stay the night ... and they had smoked some dope.

Another example:

At some point shortly after the above incident, while Seth was having to hoof his way around on foot, he met up with another local problem child to "party". Supposedly, according to Seth, they were drinking whiskey and got drunk ... and then the other guy proceeded to get Seth to go with him to a neighbor of the local problem child where they going to attempt some minor vandalism of some sort. Then the other local problem child attempted to break into the neighbor's house - which supposedly Seth wanted no part of ... so he fled ... to the local cemetery ... where he proceeded to push over a Porta-Potty.

Slight problem: turns out the homeowner was actually home at the time of the attempted B and E.

Beings as it was winter, and the ground was covered with snow ... so that their foot prints were easily observable, the local police tracked them both down in short order and Seth was apprehended and taken into custody at the cemetery.

Clearly real men of genius ...

I have yet to pull the arrest record for this incident, but if I'm not mistaken, from what I've heard about it, there may have been some attempt to actually set either the homeowner's house or car on fire. Could be wrong about that tho' ...

Fairly early on, I made a number of things abundantly clear to Seth:

1. If I ever caught him (to a certainty) actually lying to me we were done - he would be banished from my property and told never to return.

2. Same deal for bringing any illegal substances onto my property, including my vehicles.

3. If he ever try to hurt me or screw me (or my friends and family) in any way whatsoever, he would become my own "personal project" ... (meaning that I would spare no effort to see that he was held accountable under the law and that justice was done)

Apparently, he didn't realize that - unlike him - I am a man of my word - and I keep my promises once made.

48 this morning and headed to 72 today. Currently 71.

Taxes went well. About what I expected but a little worst than I'd hoped for. Still don't know what I'll get into today. Not feeling real well so may just take it easy and enjoy the sun shine.

RS. Stay safe and continue. I've turned away several people from fishing on me because of their families. There are certain last names here you don't trust no farther than you can throw them. So I can understand what you are going through.

RS, sounds like you got the Olympic version of my neighboring 20 year old who also had a felony stealing conviction. And who I finally asked to get a real job and not come back until he was always sober on the job. Geez, sounds awfully similar...my guy worked for me for a year. And it got worse, as those heading down the wrong path usually find out. I'm not going to lock and load, but will go with camera surveillance 24/7. I told him it was uploaded to the Cloud, but it's not...someone could take the whole box with the memory card in it. One camera forward, two to the rear covering the barn area. If something disappears, I'm sure headed for that video card.
I guess i ought to upgrade to a Cloud storage device; I have ADT here so maybe they have something to offer that's not expensive. Otherwise this stuff is available on Amazon. I just bought the cheaper model without all the connectivity. Well, if I upgrade, at least all the cameras are installed; that's most of the work.

Cameras don't work if folks are crazy. And that includes under the influence of serious drugs for sure.
Larro, do you have all your guns in locked gun cases? I'd worry about someone stealing them while you were at work.
Big dog?

Actually....a big dog solves many problems. Even crazies don't like big teeth...

Newbury, what topics are discussed in the Front Porch vs Friendly Politics?
Does the Front Porch get political?
I normally stay out of Unfriendly Politics because I just get aggravated by what I see as unnecessary nastiness, and I'm sure some of the regulars in there
aren't losing any sleep by my staying away. It's really like going into a bar and watching normally pleasant folk get nasty. Like bad drunks...
I guess what I really want to know is can one go in the Front Porch and have it be non confrontational? Everything in Unfriendly Politics is confrontational.

Just wondering if I should ask to join the Front Porch.

I only have one gun safe. It holds all the one with personal attachment. I have guns from all the dead Larro's in there. Daddy, Granddaddy, my 2nd BIL and a favorite uncle. Most of the rest are locked in my gun room. Since I only buy really good deals, very few of them cost over $350 or so. And many, many were around $75-100. My friend who owns a local pawnshop would give me package deals on guns he had kept for too long. When I was poor, a $75 shotgun was a step up from what I had. I've sold a few over the years, but always seem to buy more than I sell.

And Mocha would let me know if anyone was trying to break in. I doubt she would be a good attack dog. But you never know about what dogs will do. They are pretty good judges of character.

the little culvert is finally done. Well almost.
I'm pleased enough with the way the large stones came out; the Crusher Run stone
really feels like concrete next to them.

and then I had a thorough education on just how heavy a twelve foot 6x6 pressure treated beam is.
I don't think I'll do that by myself again. In fact I'm limping now with a swollen ankle from the effort.
And the ditch I dug almost totally by hand. And the huge pile of debris I raked out of another ditch.
But the weather was so nice...I'll be good on a rainy day. ;)

I need to get some roofing tin or something similar to cover the inside of the new raised vegetable garden.
I don't want those preservative chemicals anywhere near the growing medium.
Nothing like a daily dose of something akin to formaldehyde to improve your spirits.

I know I read an article on this, just need to track it down. First some angle brackets internally to hold it together.
Better get the hammer drill for this...
then a metal sheathing inside and on top, then four inches of large gravel at the bottom, and then dirt/manure/the works.

I also played around with my rear blade, finally; pic is of first pass with blade angled down cutting a very shallow water ditch.

That culvert looks great!!!!!!!!!!

Here is some shots of the support brackets. I won't install the grapple bracket till tomorrow. The paint needs 24 to 38 hours to cure.

Daughter never called or came out but wow it was 64 today with all kinds of sun and very nice. They must of found something else to do. Jim and I had a lot of fun working on welding up my stuff and looking at how to route his Hyd system lines. .

Have a good one guys. Tomorrow is Race day for me.

Friendly quiet little place. I am not sure where this politics idea came from.

Initially, the Friendly Politics forum was a sub-forum under the Front Porch.
Politics isn't allowed in any of the TBN forums except Friendly Politics (which, of course, isn't particularly friendly) and threads that go political will be closed or the posts closed.

Stopped by the police station this afternoon and picked up a copy of the incident report for the idiot's second little misadventure running afoul of the law.

He's got the makings of a nasty little fellow - if he keeps going down the path he is apparently on.

The violations he and his accomplice were charged with, under the Ohio Revised Code:

ORC 2911.13A - Breaking and Entering - 5th degree felony:

No person by force, stealth, or deception, shall trespass in an unoccupied structure, with purpose to commit therein any theft offense, as defined in section 2913.01 of the Revised Code, or any felony.

ORC 2911.12A2 - Burglary - 2nd Degree felony:

(A) No person, by force, stealth, or deception, shall do any of the following: ...

(2) Trespass in an occupied structure or in a separately secured or separately occupied portion of an occupied structure that is a permanent or temporary habitation of any person when any person other than an accomplice of the offender is present or likely to be present, with purpose to commit in the habitation any criminal offense;

ORC 2909.06A1 - Criminal Damaging/Endangering - 2nd degree misdemeanor:

(A) No person shall cause, or create a substantial risk of physical harm to any property of another without the other person's consent:

(1) Knowingly, by any means;

ORC 2909.0A1 - Criminal Mischief - 3rd degree misdemeanor

(A) No person shall:

(1) Without privilege to do so, knowingly move, deface, damage, destroy, or otherwise improperly tamper with the property of another;

The Investigative Report portion of the Incident Report reads like the script for the season finale of "The World's Best Examples Of Way Too Stoopid To Breathe Valuable Air" ...

"This Officer was dispatched to the listed location for a burglary in progress.

While in route to the listed location, Dispatch advised this officer the suspects fled the scene and ran eastbound towards Manchester Cemetery.

This Officer arrived at Manchester Cemetery to look for the suspects and observed several footprints in the snow.

This Officer then followed the footprints eastbound, through the woods, which led to the suspects front door.

This Officer made contact at the residence with two suspects, Seth A. Finch and Anthony M. Johnson.

Mr. Finch and Mr. Johnson stated they were inside the residence all night playing video games.

This Officer then contacted Detective ________ to assist with the investigation.

Detective ________ arrived on scene and spoke with Mr. Finch and Mr. Johnson.

Mr. Finch stated to Detective _________ that he was there but Mr. Johnson was responsible for the offenses committed at the listed location.

Mr. Johnson then spoke to Detective _________ and stated that he was there but Mr. Finch was responsible for the offenses committed at the listed location.

This Officer then placed Mr. Finch and Mr. Johnson under arrest and they were transported back to this Department to be processed ...
What a pair of morons ...

BTW: The woman reported that on her way home tonight the local police had a section of road near a wooded area blocked off in both directions for some distance with about 4 or 5 cruisers.

Here's hopin' ... ;)
