Good morning!!!!

Your old one also has the key way. I'm going to say the shaft has a half moon key in it. Could be wrong but no key coming out it the bolt. The old ones no good so if a bearing puller won't get it, I'd just cut it off and roll on. Applying some heat to the steering arm but no letting the shaft get hot might also free it up.

That sounds a good approach to me.

It isn't logical, but I'm always reluctant to damage something that is not quite totally broken in order to get it off and fit a replacement. On the other hand, there is something very satisfying about the way a thin disc on a grinder will so easily slice a slit into anything made of steel. It's a thrill I never quite experience with a hacksaw, probably because of the numerous times the too and fro hacksaw action has ended up with me donating some skin from my knuckles.

Do you also have a tradition of squirting penetrating oil on anything that doesn't want to move? A squirt of the magic potion once a day for 3 days before and after a full moon. At the end of the week it makes for much more impressive clouds of smoke when you finally decide it still will not move without heating things up.:)

Good morning all. Wow Kyle, you are up early, did the wind wake you too ?

The wind (outside) had me waking up quite a few times last night. Each time a loud gust came, I pulled the bed covers up over my ears. A few minutes later my wife, still asleep, would throw the covers off again. I lost count of how many times this cycle was repeated. It must have continued each time I drifted off to sleep as occasionally I would wake up cold as the bed cloths had migrated diagonally over to the other side of the bed. At least, unlike Larro, I didn't have mouse noises to contend with.

38 going up to 52 today, rains stopped late last night, clear sunny days ahead

I have begun unpacking all the pieces of my 1968 Cub Cadet 125 (very early hydrostatic) that I got halfway through restoring and then had to stop.
3 years Cadet Interruptus. Time to put her back together, and despite my nice little baggies and notes as to what screws and bolts they were,
this is going to be quite an adventure. So I think I might work on that a little today, start the clean and prep process for the frame as most of the sheetmetal is off.
Will take pics.

You all have a nice Friday.

Enjoy the day all.

32 going to 43 and sunny. Ground still snow covered.

Don, smart job on those table legs, and nice comfy looking chairs. I agree with throwing some heat on that rod before prying...You can get good smoke like Eric says with the penetrating oil, too. :) ...always works for my mower blades.

David, beautiful place...nice and tidy...doesn't look as wet as I'd expect from you daily deluge.

Drew, excited for you getting to your project after such a long wait.

Eric, I find your reasoning quite logical. Most every time I do something that can't easily be undone, I end up getting myself in more trouble. In Don's case, if he cuts off the old steering arm and the "new" one doesn't fit like he thought it would, he would also be in more trouble. Hopefully it won't come to that, especially if he can locate or make an appropriate puller.

Good Morning. 0630, clear, 34F with 96% humidity. Forecast high of 66F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 40F tonight. Should be a nice day. Yesterday was pretty raw. I never got back to the camp to do any cobbing yesterday, but did get my tree starting area cleared up somewhat. I have almost a gallon of the big acorns that I'll plant the next good day. Also some orange seeds off my two trees at the river camp. It's been 10-12 years since I messed with trees, but I should still have saved seeds from dogwood and bald cypress. Those were my biggest sellers back in the day.

Two of Margie's cousins are in from Jacksonville. They have had enough of the city life and are looking to move home. So we are all house hunting today. Margie has been helping them for a few weeks as far as internet searches go, now they have 3 or 4 house each they want to look at in person. {irony alert start}Should be fun{irony alert end}

Hope you guys have a good one,

Larro

PS: if we go by a dollar store I will buy some mouse traps.

Good Morning, 41 now and going to 67 and sunny. Should be a nice weekend.

Gee Drew, something tells me you will finish your restoration faster than I finish mine, and I got a head start.

No, unfortunately a sick 5 year old little boy. He said "I'm sorry for being sick.". He has a tummy bug and diarrhea.

We have a 40 degree delta on temps expected today, starting at 35F and going to 75F. Gonna need the lip balm in this dry air.

Good Morning! 51F @ 5:00 AM. Windy with rain likely. High 57F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a half an inch.

Yesterday's predicted half inch of rain amounted to only 0.11 here, and the predicted 1" for today is now down to 0.75". Looks like most of the storm is passing to the north, with the strongest part already going through and leaving 0.15". It was heavy enough at its peak to wake me, but only lasted an hour so I may get a bit more of a nap before the day starts.

Beautiful spread you've got there, David! All the rain you get helps explain all those roofs!

I used a Pitman arm puller when I replaced the steering gear on the F250 last year, Don. I think the tool cost $20 at the local auto parts store, but take your "new" steering arm with you to make sure you get a tool that fits. I don't think I've ever struggled so much with getting something off as with that Ford. Days of penetrating oil, oxy-acetylene heat and prodigious smoke, prolonged bouts of impact gun hammering; it just shrugged 'em all off. Finally figured I had little to lose if the puller broke, so put a two foot pipe on the end of a two foot breaker bar, stood on the thing to hold it down, and started twisting for all I was worth. Figured either the puller, the socket, or the breaker bar was going to break first, but very slowly it started to turn and after a few repositionings of the socket it was off. I'd expected a loud BANG when it let loose as that's what all the Internet experts called for. The tool's jaws did spring just a little, but not enough to matter in the end.

That's a long time for a project to sit, Drew, but I think I can beat it with the G/S bike in the rafters here. April will mark 9 years since its purchase, and the only thing that's been done to it is to disassemble it and put everything in what I hope are well marked boxes. I am getting close to starting reassembly of its sibling of the same make and model, but acquired only two years ago, so I'll get some practice solving bagged and boxed mysteries.

There's a new ignition control unit (ICU) on the way to me from my supplier, but he hadn't heard of anyone else having the same problem. I suppose it could be a glitch, but in my experience, solid state electronics either work all the way or not at all, and I suspect some sort of programming error in the hard coding of the ignition curve. In other words I probably have one of the first units from this new batch, and am one of the first to discover the problem. That said, I'm not holding my breath for the new part to do any good, but I'll be quite happy if it does.

Swung by a favorite custom bike builder in town yesterday. He was working on another friend's airhead GS, a nice bike with some nice mods that has been well used off road and shows it. It was getting a rebuilt transmission, the spotlessly shiny case of which contrasted sharply with the grimy oil stained engine case it mated to. Like day and night contrast. The whole bike was crying out for some lovingly applied elbow grease, it was in such a sad state of affairs, and the shiny transmission only served to accentuate that. But the owner seems unwilling to do it himself, and doesn't even want to pay for other little repairs that should be done but don't actually keep the poor thing from moving or stopping. Sigh.

TGIF gentlemen!

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 73° with lots of sun. Going to be a resting on patio day. Walked over 5 miles at auction yesterday. My bad ankle still is sore this morning. Lots of nice cars to view at auction. Non in my price range.
Kev T, you can mount the brake controller under seat in a waterproof box. Use foot switch to activate brakes when slowing down. For other control conditions, make a manual lever that will activate brakes using lever on controller. You wood working skills should help you make a actuator. Here is a link to manual for controller that I linked previously.
txdon, look like another trip to Harbor Freight to get tools to complete job.
David S, nice picture of your place.
Drew, looking forward to your pictures of your completed Cub.
Good Morning All.

Good morning! 40˚ heading to 75˚ good day to work at Dads and give the Farmall a chance to absorb the penetrating oil.

The steering arm is under hood so prying at a right angle is not possible. I'll take the new part to the auto parts store and try to find a short puller. The one I have is too long and hits the axel. There were two problems why the tie rod dropped 1. the round tie rod end was worn and 2. the steering arm end was wallowed a bit. If I can't get the steering arm on at least I will have half the project completed and the rods should stay in for many years. The new tie rod ends look good. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll keep y'all updated.

I also think Drew will finish his restoration before I finish mine.

Nice drone pic David.

26 this morning and headed to 46 today. Warm up starts tomorrow.

Back to the chicken coops today. I know broken record. SSDD.

Eric. I don't usually wait the 3 days. Is that the key? I'll spray some pb or krol oil and go eat lunch. Come back and if it doesn't give I get a longer lever or a bigger hammer. Usually stuff comes apart before I get to the BFH. If that doesn't work depending on what it is determines whether it gets the grinder or the torch. Two cuts with either and a chisel and hammer. Something's going to move. :). If I have the replacement part already I'm not near as merciful as if I don't.

Guess by now y'all know not to spray wd-40 on hot parts. It just burns off. Besides there are better penetrating oils than wd.

David. Nice place.
