oh ye of waaaaay too much faith...
long way to go, though should be a runner.
Going to be a while before she's a looker.

And I've got some serious fiberglass work to do. going to have to make some kind of curved form to back the fiberglass.
Just a tad too big for bondo. And of course I have vast experience with layering fiberglass. Not.
Whoever owned this little garden tractor once upon a time must have loved to slam the hood. Definitely hard on the fiberglass...back in the late 60's fiberglass was the new rage. They should have kept the dash metal...

I airblasted it today and tomorrow will start with degreaser and clean it top to bottom. That will take a while as I've got to get the generator off, yes it's a motor generator not alternator and it starts the tractor too. And I'm sure I'll take another engine shroud, or two...off. The engine was allegedly rebuilt just before I bought it, by a shop, and should be ok. And it ran fine when I got it. But a lot of cosmetic stuff to do, including the hood which looks like someone stuck a Bowie knife through the side of it in several places, one where subsequent repair welding was just a follow on disaster. But I got my tires from ME Miller, actually same rears as on the Gravely. If this wasn't going to be a lawn queen I would have gone with bigger tires in the front; these are the original skinnies.

This is going to be a water cart puller. No mud on this one when I'm done...

Drew, don't let the fiberglass intimidate you. The first kayak I made out of wood took the longest because I procrastinated on the fiberglass. Turns out it was the easiest of all. Granted I worked with 4oz sheets and epoxy, but you could do the same if you are going to paint it. Hmmm, you could always make a wood strip hood!

Drew, do yourself a favor and get some sealer into the cracks between those pavers before seeds take root and give you a real challenge. DAMHIKT... :duh:

30 right now...high will be 34 today...not too bad.
I need to wash all the accumulated salt off the truck. Might be a bit chilly today for that though...but it's supposed to hit 45 tomorrow.

Spent the last two days, as y'all know, in another GKN facility in Connecticut for some training.

Glad to be home...our boxer, Bella, was happy to see me walk through the door last night too! If you know boxer dogs...they just can't decide if they want their ears or tail bones scratched, so they bend as much as they can to get both parts scratched simultaneously while licky, licky, licky...kissy, kissy, kissy! She was excited to say the least!

I shouldn't be up this early on a weekend!!

BTW, since I brought up dogs...our girl came up with some New Year's resolutions:

I've adopted 2, 8 and 11 myself...

Now I just got the sand down yesterday...yes, when it's all done settling, I'll do that.

A chilly 26 going to mid 50's today.
And it looks like I'm going to get some exercise this morning because a neighbor with two teenage boys called last night, I'd spoken with him before, nice guy, works for the hvac company that does my house and said if I was still interested his two sons could work this morning. Great, huge amount of raking needs to be done, sticks picked up, so hopefully these kids will work out better than the young folks I have hired before. The fathers says they know how to work and take instructions.
Marvelous. But with new workers I have to be on top of them and they want to start at 8am (kid's don't...father is off to work this morning) and it's downright cold out there. Once the sun comes up it should be a nice clear bright day.

need to get replacement attachment screws for the carb housing on that CC. 10x32x1/4. TSC had nothing that short. Genuine Kohler part at 8 bucks a screw. Ha....$1.79 a piece online, much less in quantity, but if I buy ten of them, then what...well, more spares. Ten is cheaper than alacarte one or two...
going to try the Kubota dealer and one of the other lawn mower places in town. Hopefully they will have a drawer of them.

21 headed to 51...should be a nice day. More snow melted, but still a nice ground cover of it around a week after the big one hit.

Plan to go to the annual Virginia Home Show...got free tix and not too far away. Never been, but we have a couple of projects planned, so may see something helpful.

Drew, I bet all of us have the screws you need...I have a couple of jars of odds and ends that I "inherited" when I bought the house. I look through them when I need something different...but sometimes can't find...you probably have the ones I'm looking for. :)

38 going to 70. Got the fireplace going this morning just to knock off the chill. Main goal today is take the horse out on the little cart. Then I want to add aux backup lights to both trucks. Then move some feeders around. Easy day

21 going to 30's.

Need to bring more pellets in from the barn, work on the generator that wouldn't start last week.
Sure my wife has an alternate list of things for me.

Good morning! 50˚ heading to 75˚ sunny.

I watched a "This Old House" You-tube on replacing pieces of vinyl siding, so today I will make my fist attempt on the oldest building in the neighborhood, a 1880 church. The siding is about 20 years old and a few dozen pieces need replacing. Since I work for free they won't be able to ask for a refund ...but.... the pressure is on to get it right the first time. The temp is perfect but the 15 mph wind will be a challenge 20' up.

I'm still recovering from pulling 30 - 16' cattle panels out of the ground and vines at Dad's - my little brother and I would start by jerking one end free then gradually walk it on down pulling aggressively. Now he's got more open field to make hay. Oh, we did try with the tractor but it just bent the panel.

Unsolved Mystery Tractor Story of the Day.
When I turned Dads Ford diesel tractor off it would not stop humming - like something was stuck or running. I tried to start it again and nothing, just humming away. To stop the humming we disconnected the battery and the humming stopped. When we reconnected the battery the tractor immediately started on its own. I drove it to the house and turned it off - no humming - but when I turned the key to restart - nothing. I had Dad convinced to buy a new tractor but Mom just wanted to call someone out to fix it - I could not figure it out. About an hour later, little brother gets on and it starts right up??? Repeat - OK, repeat OK. What happened?

Poured first cup of coffee. 48° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 72° with mostly sunny skies. need to recondition water softener for motorhome. Which means remove old resin and install new. Instructions say about 15 minute job. I don't think it's that easy.
Been spending time at resort dog park teaching our 11 year old Shih Tzu to do the agility items in park. Turns out after 2 weeks she is the leader of about 12 dogs doing the training. Not fast but does them all without a missed feature. Plus for a treat she will work with other owners showing them how it is done. Did not think you could teach a old dog new tricks.
txdon, probably a sticking starter switch.
Good Morning All.

Good Morning. 0740, sunny, 38F with 97% humidity. Forecast high of 71F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 51F tonight.

We had a full day of house looking yesterday once we got started. Some of the houses were so far back in the woods they made the Larro Ranchero look uptown. She would be happy in the sticks, but she will be working from home so has to have really good internet. Margie is going back for another day of it today, but {sadly} I'm working.

FSU plays Clemson today. We lost to them the first time around. That was before folks realized they were good this year. To be dancing in March, you have to protect your home court. Being a Noles hoops fan is really dangerous for anyone with a heart condition.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Since disconnecting the battery stopped the hum, it's an electrical issue. Since cycling the starter switch solved the problem, it might be the starter switch. But my guess is that there's a relay between the starter and the switch, and that relay is sticking. When you drove the tractor the relay was jolted enough for the contacts to open again. Could be the one on the starter itself, but more likely another relay in the trigger circuit of the starter relay. A look at the Ford's electrical schematic should tell the story. But if you don't have one, try to find the relays and see which one clicks when you engage the starter. You might have to put a finger on the relay to feel it close because the starter/engine makes so much noise. If you can get it apart, look for a burned set of contacts.

Good luck with your search!
