It is 32 going to 61 today. I am almost jealous of you guys with snow, you get tractor time in the winter. All I get is moving hay around.

So Farmer, if you run a million chickens a year through your place, do you eat chicken? Do you eat your chickens? My cows are doing good, not real happy about this cold snap, would rather have 100 degree temps.

I am helping SIL today with his kitchen remodel. Hanging drywall ceiling ad walls today, finishing tomorrow. Hard part is, he is a 2 hour drive south.

Wonder how Roy is doing at his training?

10 this morning and headed to 39 today.

Half my birds leave tonight. So I'll spend the day getting ready for that. Need to get the rope and pulley system installed sometime so I can take the ROPS off. Won't fit in the chicken coops with it on. Hopefully it's as simple as it looks 4 bolts.

Well, it's 28 degrees here in the Piedmont area of NC. Supposed to get up to low 40's and sunny today. Now that said, I've had my new BX25 for a week and it's stayed parked most all the time due to the record amounts of rain we've had over the past month and the ground being so soft. I have however, found myself involved in an endless stream of projects since I got the tractor. Made a shed roof for the implements, cleaned out a garage bay so I could have a place to park it, made two runs to the landfill, completely renovated my shop area, etc. I don't think I've been this busy in months. All this for the tractor and it just sits there. Sigh... Gawd, my muscles are sore this morning. heh.

33 going up to 40 day, much cooler day with nice weather for next two days, then a great deal of rain predicted for Friday. That means I have two days to finish cleaning up the field ruts in the mud before that rain comes in. On the job....

Headed off to TSC this morning with the trailer to get a 20 foot section of culvert pipe. Double wall plastic, seemed pretty sturdy. And then one more truckload of ABC and I can remove my little temporary bridge and get something permanent put in there. Today off goes the bucket and on goes the forks as I try to lift the old broken bridge out of the water diversion ditch. It broke in one area where the wood was clearly rotted; not sure anyone is going to be able to use this thing until a lot of wood is replaced. They sell them for $600 for muddy areas where they are clearing trees but I rented mine for 100 bucks.

Knowing what I know now, which for sure is often the case...I would have started out with sand, a culvert pipe, then ABC and then some 57's or nice stone. I got it all backwards...well it's nicely mixed together now near the barn. And if it was all too easy, I wouldn't have job security, right?
All's well that ends well...

Could be a muddy day getting the 8x8 cribbing out from under that broken bridge. Lot of good lumber under there, needs to get powerwashed and re-used. Curious to see how far into the mud that concrete truck pushed the whole thing down. Will take pics.

less swelling in my jaw this morning, yeah, penicillin seems to be doing its thing. Funny, I haven't taken penicillin in forty years. But that's what the oral surgeon said to use. I had already had one course of higher tech antibiotics; maybe he wanted Old Faithful?

Good Morning. Overnight rain had frozen this morning, just enough to make me wonder, when I tried to get into the car, if it was the iced up door seal or the paintwork that was going to let go first.

It would be much appreciated if someone on your side of the pond could put an end to the Powerball lottery roll over and let something else feature in our news and on our radio stations, especially since no one in the UK is even allowed to buy a ticket. Hope none of you win - so much money is more likely to be a curse than a gift - but if you do, send me a PM and I will do my best to help out. :)

Good morning, strange to beat Roy to the punch this morning, hope everything is OK. 16F here, heading to only 18F with 1 to 2 inches of snow in the forcast.

We be the NC Mud Men!
Now J, you're going to have to get that gleaming beauty muddy sometime...
Although in this weather you spend one hour getting the job done and three hours cleaning up the mess.
All this for the tractor and it just sits there.
I'm told like a good mistress... Plenty of action when you need it, quiet and reliable otherwise.
not that I would know...

but if you do, send me a PM and I will do my best to help out.

expect to get that PM around midnight tonight. I bought the winner.
That's what the store clerk told me and I'm sure she's right.

I could probably buy you all a new tractor if I won....

Language check - UK to Texas translator help please.
ex-electricity pole strainer post? The added word "strainer" has me confused.
Spade? Shovel or a hand post hole digger - two handles like a clam pulling dirt from hole?
post knocker? Tractor mounted driver or hand held driver?

Sorry folks, hope this makes it clearer -

Strainer post = A big post at the end of the fence line, buried deep into the ground, that is subject to the high force needed to keep the wire under tension. We say it "takes the strain", so we call it a strainer post. What do you call them ?

Spade = Dictionary says "A sturdy digging tool having a thick handle and a heavy, flat blade that can be pressed into the ground with the foot". We use a shovel to move loose material. A spade has a sharper, stronger blade for penetrating the ground and then used to lever away the soil. I use a narrow spade with a long heavy blade for digging holes in hard ground.

Two handled post hole digger = two handled post hole digger !

Post knocker = Post driver. Can be hand held, or tractor mounted. Tractor mounted version may be on this year's Christmas wish list. Strainer posts just laugh at hand held post drivers.

We also have a special tool for digging in very long posts - we call that a chainsaw.

As Kev said, he should be ok, just away on a training course. Not sure what the training is - how to sleep a little longer ?

Drinking first cup of coffee. 46° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 64° with lots of warm sun. Neighbors siding project is mostly complete. Just a few cleanup items. Then some patio time.
Good Morning All.

Oh, the mistress is getting a pretty good deal outta this. She got the garage as my truck sits in the driveway.

Good morning! 36˚ clear skies. Eric we call a "Strainer" post a "corner" post. I'm not 100% sure but for spade we use the term sharpshooter, not to be confused with a cowboy with a good aim.

For the improved internet antena I put in a 4.5 meter strainer post and 3 - 3.6 meter strainer post for the guy wires. I used a hand posthole digger and a crow bar in the tight red clay and went down 1.2 meters. Cool I can talk "over the pond" english.

I got in 2.5 hours tractor time as yesterday temp hit 70! This time I use my forks to move the round bales and it worked better than the grapple, the rear wheels stayed on the ground. Today I'll get more firewood from the woods. I also need to make a 4" dropdown to fit in my 2" hitch receptacle on the UV with a pin hole for my garden trailer.

The ROPS on my 3240 folds down with the removal of just two pins. Doesn't yours have that feature, too?

Good Morning! 46F @ 6:00 AM. Windy with showers and thundershowers this morning, then cloudy with rain likely during the afternoon. High around 55F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 90%.

Windy? Strong enough to rattle the porch roof and wake me up from a sound sleep this morning. 0.45" of rain since midnight. That's about half way between what was reported at nearby stations, so apparently cleaning the bird poop out of the rain gauge restored it to normal function.

Ray made it sound like he wouldn't have Internet connectivity while at his training course. Hope he enjoys the break!

Grew up in the midwest and don't miss the snow. At all!

Happy Hump Day!
