Good morning, a rainy 68F here today heading to 81F. I kind of missed riding the bike to work today, other then the fact my legs are not burning.

Our son is off work this week and is now staying with us for a few days. Dog thinks this is fantastic, they were both messing around out in the garden last night until it went dark. This morning dog was even reluctant to go around the sheep, he'd prefer to stay at home ready for when his playmate gets out of bed.

On Saturday we have a party for Ben, our grandson, who is coming up to 5 years old. For the last couple of months my wife has been mowing a winding tracking in the field outside for the kids to chase around. Fingers crossed that the weather will stay fine enough to allow everyone to get outside.

Many of the children coming live in a city, so for them this is a rare chance to play in the countryside. By special request of my daughter, I have kept back 80 tons of top soil for the garden as a 6 feet high ridge of dirt for them to scramble over. A "Dirt mountain" has been a favourite in previous years, with parents bringing a change of clothing for their children, so they can all go home tired but relatively clean.

Sounds like fun. We've done a sand pile in bathing shorts with all the kids getting a sprinkler wash down prior to putting on dry clothes.

Headed south about 2 hour drive. Going to go hook up and go motorcycle riding with a friend. He has too many motorcycles. :) So he'll let me ride one. I think we might head to Rockport or Aransas Pass.
I have to decide between a late model V-max or a Ducati Hypermotard....decisions, decisions...

Good morning all!!! 80 and sunny in Memphis, TN. with a high of 96 today. Hot! But, could be much worse.

Good morning beautiful day sun shining 70 deg. Day off from work and wife has plans so doesn't look like I will have any time to relax on the tractor. Off to look at the cottage she thinks she wants to spend summers at so I can get an idea of what projects I will have there.
Sad incident in Tennessee I just can't under stand the military not being armed someone in Washington should take notice that "Gun Free Zones" are targets!

81 this morning and headed to 97 today. I think we could see 100 by end of weekend. All forecast say 98-99 though. I have learned around here weatherman is reluctant to put 3 digits on board. Cost to much I guess.

Litters moving nicely. Could be done by lunch today. Then it'll be getting the floors treated and the new litter in. Then set up. In mean time I'll finish mowing pastures and see about fixing mower.

Kev hopefully birds will be here end of next week. Need to call today and talk to them.

Good morning all. 82F @ 8AM ans breeze licking up a bit, and sunny. Forecast for 96F HI 99F and breezy today. Borrowed stepdaughter's smaller power washer, but it wouldn't fire. Gas had turned brown, drained it, blew it out but no joy. Put the carb in a cleaning bath overnight should do the trick. Otherwise cleanup outside, remove old caulk where the screens were, and mow front. Starting to find stuff easier, but doesn't fell like home yet.:confused:

70F @ 6:15AM. Abundant sunshine. High 99F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Dab, you make a good point. As soon as SSI payments start, I'll probably jump a tax bracket and the gummint takes more of it back. Been thinkin' maybe I should start IRA withdrawals (I can do so without penalties in another six months) and put them into a Roth IRA where they can grow unmolested. That'll also increase my taxes, but not as much as if I waited until the SSI checks are comin' in, too. I feel a spreadsheet (and probably a headache) comin' on... And maybe if we made the Whitehouse a "gun free zone" somebody would wake up and realize that the military should be armed whenever on duty, no matter where they are?

Drew, that's quite a boom! Makes a dangerous job easy, and probably fun, too. Wouldn't want to be one of the guys on the ground, though, dodging falling limbs, then having to bend over and heave them into the chipper. That's where the real work is in that job! And good you're making progress with that neighboring parcel. Great peace of mind when all the dust settles.

300, these days the more I get done the more I find I still have to go. I think it has something to do with "continuous improvement"!

Kyle, I never understood how someone could justify giving away that kind of money for property tax every year. Always had a good paying job, but I guess a fancy house never meant that much to me? But with 72 acres, maybe you could raise a few head of cows every year and offset some of that tax bill. And as far as motorcycles go, remember golfers have more than one club. Buy 'em both!

Eric, when I was seven we moved to a housing development that was only partly finished, and there were lots of basements being dug. We had lots of dirt clod fights as a result, and more than once Mom made me take all my clothes off out in the garage. Even had dirt stains on my underwear and socks  Now *those* were the good ol' days!

Tried some of that new POR-15 Top Coat on a section of rusty frame rail yesterday morning. Prepped the surface with a flapper wheel in the die grinder, then washed with POR-15 Metal Prep, rinsing with lots of water. Blew it off with a duster, then set it out in the sun for half an hour to dry. Used a nice 1" paint brush so there wouldn't be any over spray. Just like the old POR-15 paint, the Top Coat went on kind of lumpy, but soon leveled out into the nicest, smoothest coat you could want. Covered well, and the semi gloss finish I selected was perfect for a frame. Will try to get the rest done the same way today.

Ran errands in town the rest of the day, among them returning the router from last week. No problems at Best Buy, and the new ones even saved me a couple of bux. Got them home, installed and configured one, changing all the passwords. Came back to check something a bit later and it wouldn't let me log in, so we're not off to a good start. It's supposed to get hot again this afternoon, too hot to be out in the garage, so I'll start setting up with the DD-WRT open source router firmware on the duplicate I purchased at the same time. I had pretty good luck with it years ago, and am looking forward to better usage tracking and stability.

Just about the time I gave up on the router foolishness the skirt steak that was sizzling on the grill was done, and I enjoyed another installment of "The Seventies" on CNN. This one focused on the Ford and Carter administrations, very dark days for our country. Is it any wonder that many of the people my age have such a fundamental distrust of government? Finished up with an episode of "Mountain Men". All these guys are older than I am, living a much harder but very independent, and simpler, lifestyle. Could their trials and tribulations be a bit of a preview for what might be comin' my way?

TGIF! Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Good Morning. 0925, sunny, 86F with 75% humidity. Forecast high of 94F with 20% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 75F tonight.

We had a powerful storm blow through yesterday afternoon. It overturned one of the BIL's laying hens chicken tractors {movable pen} and several of his single rooster pens. Since he raises gamecocks, he came home to an ongoing sporting event. Thankfully none of the rosters were killed. Last night when I was coming in from work, starting a couple hundred yards from my crossroads the road was covered in leaves and small limbs. The storm must have been pretty localized. I'll spend some time picking up limbs before I mow next, but it did water my garden pretty well.

The Taekwondo class is having a sleepover at the Civic Center tonight, so hotdogs, hamburgers and pizza for supper. I had better lunch light. I lock them in about 2300 and go home, I don't sleepover with them. Most years they canoe down the river the next day. I haven't heard if that is their plan for tomorrow or not.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

You don't actually lock them in, do you? What if there is a fire or other emergency?

Kyle take the one with a A/C cab.

Sunny, 100˚

Almost all the doors all have crash bars on the inside. They can not be locked to keep people from getting out, just to keep anyone from coming in.

It is 97F here now {1740}. I saw where today's high of 97F in Apalachicola tied a record high set in 1995 and in 2002. If we don't watch out, there will be some really hot weather before we know it.

Really humid here, not as hot as some of you guys, but you can nearly chew the air. Or drink it.

Relocated a thermostat today, the wire was a 4 wire setup. HD only sold 5 or 7 wire, no 4. No big deal, used the 5. Just thought it odd.

That's what happens when a BigBoxStore puts the little family hardwares (that used to carry just what you need) out of business. If a 5 wire will work where a 4 wire is called for, that's what they'll carry. Lucky they didn't drop the 5 wire, 'cause it'd work for the 4 wire and bring more profits for them.

RNG Please tell me you are not close to the fires out there? Pretty nasty when the cars on the hiway catch fire

Took my wife to the Dr, and then she wanted to look at trucks. She now owns a 2015 GMC 1500. I still can't believe it took 7 hours to close the deal.

   / Good morning!!!! #36,039
congrats on the new truck Kev. Endless is how I would describe trying to buy a vehicle today.
My personal best is about two hours for a Toyota on a cash deal. Longest about five hours.
Your wife must have really beat on that sales manager for a while for an extra good deal.
I know I sound old when I say this but things used to be so much simpler.
A refrain probably heard for all time.

of course one could spend an hour just trying to figure out the infotainment system on your truck or most new vehicles.

it used to be you just had to make sure the pto was off and the clutch down when you started a tractor. Now on my Kubota there are half a dozen electronic settings available, do I want my tractor to not stall when I do something stupid?
Well, push that button. Do I want my tractor to automatically shift into high range like the trans I grew up on, a Powerglide? Well, there's a button for that too. Do I want my tractor to respond more quickly, like the Sport button on a high performance car? Well, there's a rotary knob for that too. And my favorite, the relatively old fashioned windshield washer switch for both front and rear windows. Actually two switches in a line of six, front lights, rear lights, lights that flash, lights that revolve.

I just cannot imagine what getting into a modern combine must be like.
I wonder how many of us could figure out how to start a 9 series JD tractor without help...
first you have to get your password from the cloud.
Any cloud.

stay cool Larro, get in that creek.
Heat's coming here tomorrow thru Monday,

Camping outside of Gettysburg. Guy next to us restores old Farmall tractors. He is from VA, has been up this way buying old tractor parts. I told him about TBN, he doesn't use it but said he looks at yesterdaysTractors.

KevT, congrats on the wife's new truck. Did you see anything else in walnutcreek? My grandfather farmed with draft horses, still remember him having them when I was young. My dad remembers them well.

RNG, I used 7 wire thermostat wire for my geo system. needed an 8th, had to a run a separate 2 pair.
