Welcome home all you travelers.

Actually got a few hours mowing today. Grilled a couple steaks and some precooked BBQ ribs and baked potato. I enjoyed my steak and wife and girls demolished the ribs.

Anyone still use 35mm film? I just ran across an unopened box of 6 rolls, and another box of APS film that i never used. The APS says develop by 2003. I think I have a roll of APS still in my camera, but the battery is dead so can't get the display to come on.

Evening fellows, hope everyone had a great weekend.
My dog has been eating grass clipping and it makes him sick sometimes. Tried solving the grass clipping problem by buying a mulching kit for the Rider I have, clipping were smaller and it cut down the dog from eating them but he still find clumps here and there. Wife has had enough and told me to buy a bagger for the John Deere. Lowes here in Canada wanted $449 for a bagger for the D110 and Home Depot wanted $269. Used Home Depots price matching policy to my advantage and got the bagger there at the Lowes price plus they took another 10% off, so got the bagger for about $405. Still a lot of money so I hope it solve the problem.

Our dogs love lawn mower cuds. :D Eating them doesn't seem to bother them. I just said to Sharon the other day a bagger would be the solution and good for compost too. We don't use any weed killers or fertilizer on the yard.

Good to see you are home safely and enjoyed the trip. Hope the horse/cart driving instructions were useful.

78F here this evening after a high of 90F. I gave myself the day off.

Thanks Dave, it was very educational, and makes me appreciate my Kubota all that much more. I think I would love to find a rock in my fields... Any rocks you find here are old spills of concrete from cleaning trucks.

Farmer glad you made it home, I had some of the same traffic on Saturday. Cost us about 3 hours total in 4 different states, spent the night in SC but was hoping for GA. Today was a breeze. I will admit that I had the cruise set at 80, and was constantly passed like I was standing still.

Drew, Took me a while to get thru this feed, but sorry to hear the boat didn't work out, glad to hear it was just a strained muscle, and glad it didn't take long to fix the A/C.

Roy, glad you survived the audit, I hate when the state does one on me.

Hope everyone else s doing good, I am now looking at how much money I spent to see if I can afford to add another mouth to this family, my wife wants this 2yo pretty bad...

I will post pics of school if anyone wants to see massive horses dragging me around :D

We have Labrador ***** that eats grass, grapes, picks cherries from tree, tomatoes from the wine, feasts on mulberries and who knows what else. Fortunately her digestion system handles that well. Never saw her sick. She pukes the grass balls sometime.

Morning all.
I managed to mow the front field yesterday but got a bit aggressive with some apple brush and noticed a new vibration. Checking the cutter over I found the bolts that mount the gear box to the deck had loosened up and I could twist the gear box back and forth a quarter inch. Of course the nuts are up under the stump jumper so the blades and pan had to come off. I got stuck on loosening the bolts as they don't want to turn so they spent the night with PB blaster on them. Once I get them off I'll add washers under the nuts and might even tack weld the washers and nuts so I can tighten from above without diss-assembly.

Rain came as they predicted this morning. I am not complaining as it was an unusually dry spring and the ponds could do with a bit of a top up.

After six months of owning a tractor with a cab, I have concluded there is found one thing it is rubbish at - herding sheep. They can't here my words of encouragement from inside and engine noise alone is insufficient to get them moving. Cab window design doesn't help at all, I mean, having a fully opening rear window isn't much use unless I drive around everywhere in reverse. I tried opening the right side door to yell out my usual "Come on" while driving up to them. That did get their attention, though mostly because I inadvertently caught the loader joystick, plowing the pasture and sending up divots of turf in their direction. Whoops, won't try that again. :)
Perhaps one day, when I am even more decrepit, I will get an RTV. For now it looks like I'll stick to alternating between shanks pony and the Subaru.

One other conclusion from yesterday is that tractors with hydrostatic transmission (with or without cab) are very, very good at inching very slowly and smoothly while hauling on a rope. I will see if the pictures came out and update the pond project later today.

Tacking is a great idea...I suggest you use an anti-seize when re-installing the bolts.

67 heading to 85 and t-storms likely. Well, we had one full dry day. I'm not complaining...my lawn and fields have never been this lush in July...but I have mowed as many times already as a full normal season.

Eric, reading about your pond today reminds me of your pond mysterious serial thread. I need to go find it and see how things developed. I went out of town for 2 weeks in early June and then forgot to check when I returned.

good morning all. Once my house guest leaves this morning I have about five hours of mowing ahead of me but unlikely the incoming rains will let me get that done. We went from not much rain, then crazy 5 inch downpours, to no rain, now to almost daily showers. You can imagine the recent showers have the lawn growing like mad. Geez, that weed and feed does work it seems...

have had a great deal of fun with my friend. He is seriously low maintenance, self entertaining, and knows much more about mechanical things than I do. Sorry to see him go home. But while he was here, we did get the Swisher pull behind rough cut mower going.

That was the first piece of machinery I totally took apart, reassembled and painted about ten years ago. That old Briggs I/C engine seems unbreakable. I can't wait to haul it along the edge of my woods and grind up stuff I would fear to take the JD into, and even the Gravely. Poor Gravely gets used as a brush mower and it really shouldn't be; things that go bang should really be banging into a swing away blade which the Swisher has. The 44" Swisher was a second hand wreck when I bought it on CraigsList, doesn't get used very much, but has a good purpose. It really is one of my favorite pieces of equipment, fun to go play "let's try to stall it", and it is almost impossible to stall by the way. I won't intentionally hit anything larger than about an inch on it anyway but that covers most of the brush. It actually would be quite helpful to pull behind the Gravely back to the pond once I finish clearing the big trees. Projects. and more projects...but grinding things up always seems to be great fun.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 56° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 81° with partly cloudy skies this morning and possibility of thunderstorms this evening. Got some running around to do this morning. Then hook up rotary cutter to tractor. Need to cut about 4 acres when we get some dry weather latter this week.
Good Morning All.

Tacking is a great idea...I suggest you use an anti-seize when re-installing the bolts.
Certainly will but I think it was the steel of the deck getting worked thin rather then the nuts loosening. Similar to rims working in and needing to be re-torqued. At any rate there should have been a good sized flat washer between steel deck and the nuts to spread the load.

Kev, beautiful horses. I am really impressed by the complex bridle; it must take you two hours to get that all hooked up and snugged up just right. Not exactly a Quick Hitch for sure.

too bad there wasn't a way of getting your horses in the back to push. That way you wouldn't have to look at the rear ends of two huge horses all the time plus they block your sight. Now for pulling a plow, of course, you pull it. But for a light load like a carriage, wonder if anyone has ever figured out how to have draft animals/horses push a rig. All your lines would be on pulleys going backwards... now invent something like that Kev and you'll have all kinds of new fun.
Of course you wouldn't get to watch your horses all the time, so that might not be worth it. Or go Euro, front and rear hitches...;)

how smart are these horses? Is one breed smarter than the other?
I think your wife has got this dialed in just right. She is on a comfy seat, maybe, and she can see where she is going.
This is all said of course Kev by a guy who has never ridden a horse. Just shows what one to four horsepower can accomplish.
