Great day in the sunny south no rain wonderful ocean breeze and other than getting filter for furnace we just relaxed. Just finished playing gin rummy with wife now sitting on deck listening to ocean.

Drew glad you checked out ok so far boat trials will be a blast tomorrow. Wish I was there

Not many ocean swimmers today cannot blame them, but lots of people here

Glad all those traveling made it safe and sound,me I'm just glad to rest and do literally nothing

as well you should. Now you can dream of endless streams of white sand instead of
wide expanses of black macadam.

growing up the shore beaches full of towels and sunbathers always had a distinctive smell, of coconut. Long before SPF became a watchword, just slather down with coconut oil and fry like an egg in a pan. We knew if we went to the beach our mother would give us suntan lotion to put on but I bet it was like spf 5.
And now at our age, we just help our dermatologists buy their homes in Florida.

2015-07-08,

59 right now...high of 83 today and maybe a thunderstorm.

A light rain shower made me set off with a jacket on this morning. The sun broke through when we were half way around and the sheep slowly started to rise from under the shelter of the oak trees that are dotted around these fields. Rain will return soon, more painting inside for me.

We found a pair of crows on the way back, at the foot of an electricity pole. I guess they both opened their wings to fly off from seperate phase wires at the same time and got frazzled. Dog strolled over and took one sniff, quickly deciding there would be better options for breakfast than crispy crow.

74 going up to 91 today with a chance of showers in the afternoon, as usual. We've had several small rains which have nicely activated all the weed and feed I put down so the lawn is growing like mad.

Can't mow today; off early to Edenton NC for an 8am survey on my boat. Should be a memorable day, hopefully of the positive kind. Part of the survey is what is called a "sea trial" and one does pretty much whatever one wants to the boat subject to the owner's ok. For me that means ten minutes of full power (3600 rpm for this Yanmar) headed East towards the Albermarle Sound and then lots of IR heat gun measurements plus temps, pressures, etc, recorded plus speed vs rpm data collected.

This Yanmar diesel in a tractor would be like new with 700 hours. After sitting in a damp marine environment for 14 years, the problem is not the internals, it's the hoses and the exterior parts that usually create problems. I sure will be happy if I find out the current owner actually cleaned out and flushed the cooling system. It's many hundreds of dollars of labor at almost a hundred bucks an hour for mechanic labor to do it right. I just hope it's been done at least once in 14 years...Things take a lot more time on boats because equipment access is usually poor to awful.
So lots of inspecting fluids, sniffing, etc.

the good news is less pain in my side this morning so if I try to behave today, hardly...., it seems to be improving. Going to wear a back belt anyway for a little insurance.

Buppies, wish you were here too. Getting out on the water is right up there with getting onto that tractor seat. Sometimes better...

Dropped a ice cube in first cup of coffee. 70° with cloudy skies. Heading to 73° with showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Loss of sleep made me fall asleep way to early. Got a bunch of stops to make today away from the house.
Drew, good luck with the sea trials.
Good Morning All.

59F headed to 83F. Repeat of yesterday except some nice breeze is supposed to come up later this morning.

Thomas did the cigar thief ever get caught, have any suspects? Hanging offense.

Buppies enjoy your beach vacation. The sea air and surf sounds are truly medicine for the soul.

67 heading to 92 and no chance of rain in the forecast - first time in about two weeks.

Time to spray. Already mounted the sprayer to the tractor and am ready to go, as soon as the dew burns off. Then it's mow and if any time remains, finish building the corn hole set I am building for my wife.

Power went out last night after a storm came through, but it was a small shower and no lightning, so was surprised we lost it for 2 hours.

Drew be careful but enjoy yourself you are going to be in boat heaven today that's for sure. As much as I enjoy working my tractor being on a boat is like going back to my roots. Especially on the ICW

Dave thanks son drove down yesterday afternoon so we will get some beach time today for sure

Dinner was good last night, beet salad to start flounder with cheese grits to finish. Wife and son enjoyed a good wine me my trusty unsweetened tea. Since 2001 my drink of choice must be my English heritage

72 out this AM. Should be hot and humid with t-boomers any day the rest of the week.

Now to get the grass under control.

Time to re-start the job search. I am just half-assed looking. I like the merc work.

Where ever you are, stop for a minute. think really hard about where you are, and enjoy your day!

Be safe all!

73 this morning and headed to 90 today. Chance of afternoon storms.

Went yesterday and visited Sanibel Island. Mainly driving but learned enough about the area to make reservations for a boat tour around one of the bay's. We leave from the Federal Wildlife Refuge. Sure hope boy enjoys the boat ride. Wife want to rent one. I'd like to come back to pool. Son so far doesn't like the ocean. Ankle deep and he cries. Put him in the pool yesterday though. First time in about a year. He loved it. By the end of the hour he was tired but was controlling himself. Forward, back, moving arms and legs in water. Of course all with a life jacket on. Sure beat the screams and cries of a year ago.

Off today to do some shell picking and a boat tour. Really wishing for a better bed. Feel like I'm sleeping on a rock.

Kev enjoy Ohio. Glad you made it safe. Pics?
Came through se areas that had a lot of horses down here off 75. Really surprised my wife.

Buppies enjoy the beach. Be safe and look out for fish with sharp teeth. Laughing.

Drew. Enjoy your sea trial. Only one engine. Though sea ready vessels should have duplicates of everything? Pics?

Time to re-start the job search. I am just half-assed looking. I like the merc work.

I always preferred contract work over a permanent job. More security with permanent, more interesting and more money with contract. My biggest hindrance with contract work was my wife...contract jobs frequently require being away from home for extended periods...my wife couldn't hack that.

Good morning, 72F heading to 79F with rain in the forcast. Lost power this morning for little over an hour, showered by candle light and power came back on when I got to work.:(

The ocean itself looks like a ghost town very few swimmers in the water and then only ankle deep. I know for sure I don't want to become fish food. But this is against my nature as I love swimming in the ocean

68F @ 5:00 AM. Sun and clouds mixed today. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 91F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad your aches and pains are subsiding, Captain Drew. Good luck with the boat today!

Looks like the fans got their money's worth on that race, Larro!

Enjoy your drywall, David. Will you do the tape and texture yourself?

Dave, nothing like a nice nap to get you from lunch to dinner ;)

Good luck with the job search, Rip.

Hope our vacationers are enjoying their well deserved time off.

Got the hot water pressure washer out yesterday and gave the for sale bike a good washing. From the looks of things under the engine there may be a leak at the oil pump seal, a common thing for this model, one that need not be dealt with right away but that I'll let the new owner know about if I can confirm it. That means getting it running, which may need to wait a day or two more as I change fluids and clean up a bit of surface corrosion on the alloy parts and brake rotors. I did top up the radiator, just to confirm that there was still fluid in it, and today I'll put new antifreeze in it, along with engine oil, transmission and final drive oil, and brake fluid. Hopefully I'll find no nasty surprises on any of the drain plugs.

Enjoy the day all!

Raining here, lost the Direct TV signal. That seldom happens, but it has been out for 10 minutes or so. Really getting tired of hearing about the Greek crisis...

Going to lunch today, then off to measure some windows for replacement, at the wife's shop.

Good Morning. 0900, sunny, 82F with 82% humidity. Forecast high of 88F with 20% chance of rain today, and a low of 72F tonight. Sister and BIL are driving to New Orleans later today to pick up their granddaughter who is coming in from Denver for a 3 week stay. {so Uncle Tim will be hopping for 3 weeks} I'll be doing the chicken feeding tomorrow, and need to get over there before they leave for primer.

Enjoy your day on the water Drew. Hope the boat checks out alright for you.

You guys take care,

Larro

If you are looking for a good beach read, try one of the Doc Ford novels by Randy Wayne White. Good reads, and they are set on Sanibel Island.
