Good morning!!!!

54 this morning and headed to 57 today. Suppose to drop after lunch when the rain moves back in. Been a fairly dry winter here so far. Pond still isn't running out spill way. Wife has doctors appointment so maybe I can get her shopping done. Her not having school this week really hurts.

Roy glad your ok.

Dave my enthusiasm for chicken comes from growing up not raising them. Roll eyes:). We eat chicken every night for supper and twice on the weekends for over a year once. Mom finally walked into living room and asked dad me and sister what we wanted for supper she was offering three different kinds of chicken. I answered anything but chicken. There was a freezer full of beef. Dad was rolling mom was mad. From then on I would call and see what was for dinner. If it was chicken I would eat something in town before going home.

I guess your Mom liked chicken, I'm sure she had her reasoning. When I was around 5-8 years old my parents were very strict about meals. Whatever they put on the plate for supper, my sister and I didn't leave the table until it was gone. Well, my sister and I spent some dreary and extended times at the table. She is two years older than me and a bit more devious, like sneaking her food to the dog or artfully rolled it up in her paper napkin.

One time my Mom made deep fried chicken and gave some to my sister and I before she and Dad sat down to eat. That chicken was the original rubber chicken, you may as well have tried chewing on a wad of rubber bands. Of course when we told Mom and Dad we couldn't eat the chicken they figured we were making excuses, shut up and eat, ya know. It was priceless watching my Dad try to eat a piece of that chicken before giving up.

Good morning! 55˚ cloudy, the rain is heading this way from Austin.

We have our live Christmas tree on the porch by our large back window. The wind tossed the garland and bows around and it looks like it has a hangover this morning.

Roy, Wow - did it happen like in a slow motion slide or did it require a quick reaction on your part? I'll be there in a bit to pull you out with my Subaru. You know I bought my Subaru so we could share Subaru stories - my - how I slid around and did not get stuck on the muddy county road and - you - how you drove out of a snowy ditch. But now we'll just have to share F150 stuck stories. Your's is pretty good - the day before a four day holiday weekend on the way to work . . .

We used to raise chickens. I remember having to catch one when we were having chicken for supper. We had a chopping block in the back yard. hated plucking the feathers.

Is was back in the late 90's early 00's when everything but chicken was bad for you. I am a red meat fan but still like chicken occasionally. I was about 16.

That's a good one. Did they start to believe you after that.

I cheat. I don't pluck. I just skin. Everything is skinless and most is boneless.

Well, I did get back to sleep, and slept in until 0900. Now I'm having to hurry. Guess I will skip {or greatly reduce} my cardio. Some rather sharp lightning woke me. As far as I can tell, it didn't hit anything important. I did have a scare as there were red lights on my modem and router. 10 seconds with them unplugged got me back in business though.

I hated plucking wet feathers. We always built a fire in the backyard and heated water to scald them before plucking. Then we would singe the pin feathers with a burning paper bag. But I always figured it was worth it to be able to eat chicken. We had beef everyday, so it was a treat when we killed a chicken.

Roy, glad you are alright.

Drew, if you get half the rain I'm getting right this second, you won't have to worry about watering your trees for a couple of weeks. It's pouring.

Back home...I am, truck isn't. Guy coming toward me slid into my lane (on VT RT 12) and I evaded him...right off the road. He was nice enough to stop and assist, but the F-150 isn't getting back on the road without a tow. No apparent damage though...and, it is Vermont (land of "we'll plow it when it gets 8" deep").
I'll call a tow truck in a bit...coffee and dry trousers first.

Those trousers get wet from the inside out or the outside in? :D

Happy to hear you are ok. Hope they guy who sent you into the ditch is going to cost share on the tow.

Well, got my pre-Christmas Christmas present...neighbor's son pulled the F-150 back on the road. I wasn't too far off, actually...10-15 feet. But just no traction to drive out. He has a smaller (one ton or ton and a half) 4WD dump truck.
That saved me a hundred bucks!

Got pretty wet though...even with the muck boots on my feet (they go about mid-calf high or a bit taller). Back home, warm shower...all is good!

That would have been nice, but I didn't ask him...he did give me a ride home though (he would be passing our place on his way to work).

Nah. Those were pre-Dr. Spock days. I don't mean to give the impression my parents were cruel, they weren't. Back then many parents felt their duty was to force feed their kids, and kids should eat on demand, or they would be failed parents raising rotten children.

For my own kids we always put nutritious meals on the table and let the kids take what and how much they wanted. If they didn't eat a reasonable amount of good food and came looking for sweet snacks later, we warmed up the leftovers.

Young children with normal health and limited food options (only good food offered) will naturally eat a balanced diet over time.

I saw the car slipping and he wasn't going too fast (neither was I...I could feel the road was slick)...just enough ice under the snow, plus the roads hadn't been treated yet (not an uncommon occurrence in VT).
It was pretty quick though...and I may have over-steered, and corrected too late. Better then a head on collision though, of course.

As far as the extra day off...I'm a contractor, not a full time employee. If I'm not there, I don't get paid...not much incentive to stay home.

As of 11AM I am off from work until 7 AM January 7th. If after that amount of time off my wife isn't ready to throw me out or kill me I may start thinking about retirement! After almost 31 years the job just isn't fun any longer. May have to look for a new challenge.

Roy sorry to hear about you little misadventure this morning glad no damage to the 150, and a hot shower was all you needed.

Hey guys, I know how much you all like build projects, so I'll show you a couple we have recently completed here at the Civic Center. My boss's husband is a metal worker, and we got him to knock this grill together for us. The area it is going to go has to have some dirt brought in and leveled then we are going to put down pavers and a couple of benches. It should be nice when we get it finished. And there are a couple of views from the inside of the cook shed. It's a metal roof and sides with screen and rough cut cypress on the inside. We still need to make some shutters to keep out the blowing rain like we had today, but that will have to wait until the money shakes loose in the budget. We grilled {on a smaller grill} our Christmas party lunch out there and ate it in the cook shed. Lots and lots of rain today, but with good food anything is better.
