ok, I've done my civic duty and that will be all.

sun is finally coming up, things to do.

am sadly lacking in tractor pics.
when the farms are so gigantic as they are here, the machinery isn't stored near the road. I think it has been so dry everywhere would normally be a lot greener here.

driving through the West and seeing more water storage units than I thought possible the value and control of water rights is a big deal here. Looking at the small stream called the Rio Grande, well, it wasn't so grande anymore.

water is sure a big deal when you don't have enough to go around.
Drew lots of water in the Rio Grande. Just view it at the right place. This is Mission, TX

Good morning, the low is 46 and going to a high of 64°F. Wind SSW 7 mph. 70% chance of showers. It did rain earlier this morning.

No wood going in today.

Junior has a pancho and he says he will ride to town this aft.

I find that a lot of new drivers start out with a 48' trailer and then when they are hooked to a 53 footer they forget about the extra 5' of trailer. Now with the advent of 57 footers it will be another nightmare. Of course the shippers and receivers still make their loading/unloading docks like we all still have 45 footers.
I tell anyone that wants to drive a truck for a living that if they like being crapped on by their boss, by the dispatcher, by the shippers and receivers and not to forget the DoT and the cops then trucking is the job for them. Truck drivers get zero respect on the road or anywhere else. The ONLY reason car drivers stay away from trucks is because they know that they will be on the receiving end of a lot of damage it they get into a tussle with a truck. But they sure don't mind passing a truck and then slowing down in front of it. Or when a truck tries to pass them they speed up, then when the truck pulls back in behind them they slow down again.

M7040, pretty puppie.

I am with Don on this.
If everyone made a separate post regarding a 'like' that would soon jam the server full. It is not our 'fault' that we like minded people seem to get along together. Even though most of us have never met face to face.

This post is long enough,

Have a safe day all

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 6:30AM. Areas of fog early, then partly cloudy this afternoon. High near 70F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Yesterday's backlog of held mail was delivered yesterday, including the pump controller. One thing less to worry about.

Made an appointment with the local RAM dealer to take care of a recall on the van, and have them look at a couple other issues. Couldn't get in until next Thursday, but they do offer a shuttle service.

Got the firewood unloaded from the van and still had enough tarp left to cover it all. And probably enough for another cord. Put the two empty firewood pallets up for sale, and will use the two remaining empties up north to shuttle the rest of the wood.

TGIF gang!

Made a VW a lot shorter (speaking about backing up trucks) by backing into it with the truck. At the freight terminal with rows of large trucks and trailers at the loading dock I was supposed to back the truck into one empty spot and did not see the car parked way up in the slot. Mirrors don't pick it up.

I like the GM thread as it is too. No concerns about post likes.
That hot tub experience will be tough to beat for Drew's amazing America road trip. I'm not sure what or where I would like to show Drew around. Any suggestions? I was thinking bucolic Serbin maybe? But that is after 2ish o'clock. See what Drew wants to do. We are planning supper/dinner tomorrow night.
Y'all's house and backyard looks like royalty.

Drew, drive safe. Your turnoff off of HWY 290 is at the big Texaco gas station sign. RV park behind it. The steakhouse doesn't accept reservations. Should be able to get in within a reasonable time. There is a high school football game tonight. Our team has not had much success this year, so the stands are not full at all. I don't even know if I will go or not. It starts at 7:30pm.
Hopefully I can turn the valve.

Drew sounded interested in the Wendish museum in Serbin. My ancestors were Wendish. The wedding dresses were Black.
Also the county courthouse is interesting.

We visited it during one of our stops to Don. Very interesting place.

Good morning! Low of 44°, heading up to 81°. Sunny.

We did see the aurora last evening, briefly for about 5 minutes. Surprisingly, it was as nice as the pics posted on here..... The son had rushed over to tell us and we only caught the last minute. Then it was just a 'glow'.

RIP, sorry about your cat. Always hard to say goodbye.

Drew, the adventures continue....

Not sure what I will get into today.... so many choices....

Everyone have a great day!

safe and sound in Giddings TX. First went to local Walmart but they don't have fresh food. Then went to Brookshire Bros and got what I needed. Then gassed up at Chevron.
This park is superficially fine, but no one at office.
sign saying back in three days. Really? I saw the lawn mower guy and he said just find an empty spot which I did. Second call to office was answered, I hadn't paid yet and she said she was in Georgia. She'd better hope the honesty system works here.

site is ok, but not level, lifted front wheels off ground a little.\
now time for long hot shower and nap.
If Kyle wants to come over this afternoon for a few minutes, that's always nice but hadn't planned on that today, he is a busy guy and I knew about the football game.
The valve handle can certainly wait until tomorrow. Will take 60 seconds, either it goes in or not. If it breaks going in, that may change the day's activities...

not a bad drive over, smooth roads, lots of traffic for a while
will call Kyle in a couple hours

Frits D is going to have very volatile territory.
yes--- Would prefer some safer territory for sure. I think she feels that she has something to contribute. Her travels in the region and time at American University in Cairo as well as one of her professors a former CIA director inspired her. Also her two tours to Aghanistan contributed.

what a fun afternoon and Kyle is my new RV hero.
we determined the valve was completely jammed and had to be replaced. Thankfully I had a spare valve and Kyle had just the right tools to get it done. At first it would not come out but some concerted muscling got it done. And no dreaded sound of breaking plastic. In fact the operation went basically flawlessly and so thankful Kyle didn't get covered in my you know what. He was a real trooper to help with this.

then off we went to the town of Serbin s/w of here, where a German lutheran sect named the Wends settled. Apparently Don is related way back when. Very nice museum, and the church was lovely, with pretty blue and white colors inside. St Paul Lutheran.

Kyle took me past his home in the country, very nice area.

David, good news on Sophie. All the better to keep an eye on you...

now a short nap, didn't get one today since we really needed to focus on the
plumbing. Kyle is headed to his son's football game shortly.
we'll figure out something to do tomorrow. This place doesn't forbid rv washing so maybe early tomorrow while it's cool I can work on the bugs with a hose and scrubber.
Big Texas bugs.

We just had a quick little thunder boomer go through. All the cats headed for the basement. It is over now and the lights are still on.

I need to get a hold of my buddy and see what days he is available in November, if we can get that sorted out then I can make the appointment for the functional assessment.

91 degrees in Giddings Texas
just polished off the last of Don's lasagna and then
topped that off with piece of home made apple pie
made by Kyle's wife and brought to me by Kyle.
I get pie and a fixed septic system, such a deal.

and what pie, lots of cinnamon which I love, and the crust, the
crust one could write sonnets about.
Kyle please tell your wife she makes the best pie crust in Lee County
of course it's the first pie crust in Lee County I've had but I'm certain
it must be the best ;)
despite Sat morning weigh in I ate that whole big piece she sent.
once you started something that good
you know you surely enjoy the moment
the flaky firm crust, nice fruit flavor

Don's lasagna was so good I asked for some to go.
Might just be some more apple pie around here...though with three kids
I can't imagine an apple pie lasting long.

It has been so long since I"ve had ice cream. Anyone make their own ice cream in Giddings? Need lots of dairy cows for that and I'm seeing more of four legged steaks around here.

I tried some almond milk at Don's. It was ok, a little thick, would need to be very cold, and I just buy organic 2% and I perhaps should feel forever guilty in not spending the extra two bucks to allow Bessie free ranging and a stall with her name on it When things come from animals, it is usually more appealing to me to not think of the exact source. But buying organic hopefully keeps me away from most of the bad pesticides. But not all.

I'd like a pill to get rid of all the forever chemicals in my body.
that would be quite the flush.

it was a fine day in Texas today.
