Mansfield Missouri
I'm heading South instead of North because I wanted to visit
Baker Creek seed company, whose seeds I used exclusively on NC veggie farm. They are a couple miles away from campground. And then I realized tomorrow was Labor Day and the place will be closed. Not very smart planning. But who cares, just a different path.

at least tomorrow morning there shouldn't be much traffic across that little bridge. I think Paul said it was the oldest bridge there.
Big river, bridges are important, and St Louis has a bunch of railroad bridges to handle East West traffic

I take 44 West to 63 South and then 60 West
am guessing it will be an easy cruise on flatter land if there isn't too much
road construction. I can't leave until 10am so will have a quiet morning here. At least the temps are going down a little

I took the drone up and got a pic of the Arch, despite lots of be careful warnings of the Arch protection area (they really, really do not want you flying drones anywhere near it), but all I do is go straight up in the parking lot. But....new laptop does not have an SD card so can't load those pics.
I ordered an SD/USB adapter and that will get to my sister's home. So until then, will be taking drone pics but can't see them.

Good evening! We finally got our internet service restored! 4 days down..... Apparently, someone digging took out the main fiber optic line that takes all of the 'rural' customers and crosses over the mountains into the big city. At least the service provider credits the bill if it's out for greater than 12 hours.

Been busy (well at least keeping myself occupied) this week. Cleaned out the greenhouse and reorganized in preparation for the winter. Got some of the saplings transplanted into bigger containers. Completed a few small honey-do items.

Then got started on the Jeep.... flushed out the heater core, both directions. Got a lot of brown dirty coolant. Flushed the block and radiator. Took out the t-stat and put in the cleaner, took it up to temp on a test drive. Let it sit overnight and took it up to temp again.... then let it sit again. Repeated again today..... I 'll flush it again tomorrow and put the t-stat back in with new coolant.

The good news is that there was heat on the first test drive. Hopefully it will continue to work for a while......

completed in 1874. The Eads Bridge was the first bridge across the Mississippi south of the Missouri River. Earlier bridges were located north of the Missouri, where the Mississippi is smaller

Dedicated July 4 , 1874, so just turned 150 yrs.

Paul, so sorry to read about your stepson's accident. Good that he's out of the hospital. Now a long recovery period.....

Drew, glad that you found the transfer switch problem. Sorry about the Loves RV spot. Didn't know they had them! But ... now I know not to go there!

Don! Glad your surgery was successful! Good that you're not having too much pain so soon after the surgery. Did you have them put in some added power so you can become pickleball champ?

Scott, have fun at the beach! I bet you will be tired by the time you head back! Little people seem to wear out the bigger people really fast!

Bill, I hear you about the BH getting under shelter. I have planned an addition on the tractor garage so I can get my BH in there. It was stored on the opposite side of the garage, but that space got taken over by wood / lumber stock. I hate the thought of it sitting outside over the winter. It's a project for next spring.

The rain the guessers were hyping up never came. A few storms made a lot of noise, but only gave up a few drops. No more rain in the 7 day next week. The temps will be nice though -- hanging right around the upper 70's for highs, lows around 50°.

I had 5 pages to read through.... I'm sure I missed something that you guys have done!

Time to go put up the feets.....

I hate gardening, but the other day two good sized tomatoes cost me $7.00 at a farm stand. They were good and made delicious sandwiches but dang 3 sandwiches for $7.00 worth of tomatoes is kind of steep.
$7.00 holy moley

Good (Monday) morning, and the 2nd 'official' day of Spring. Overnight Low of 10.2C and it's presently 15.3C, lightly overcast with a moderate breeze. This should be the last day of the wind/rain 'event'. Recorded gusts of 95kph, around midnight, at the aerodrome. There was 42.3mm in the gauge @ 0900... the ground is 'squishy' around the property.

In my capacity as Church Warden, I received an email regarding a small tree at the Rectory that was slightly uprooted along the fence line. No damage to the fence but, yeah, it'll have to come down. Hopefully I can get to it Wednesday/Thursday.

Personally, all I've got around my property is an overabundance of twigs & small branches to clean up... and I need to repair the bottom section of my flagpole.

That's about it, take care all.

Was 63°F and clear skies this morning, and got up to 89° today. A bit warmer than predicted, but still way better than the upper 90s last week.

Drove to East St. Louis this morning to meet up with Drew. We went over to the STL Zoo and rode around there for awhile. I was kind of disappointed at the number of animals nowhere to be seen, but that's how it goes there sometimes. They couldn't care less about our schedules, as they have important zoo animal stuff to do, I guess. We had a good time nonetheless. Popped back over into Illinois to go to the Cahokia Mounds Historical Site, but the museum was closed today, and Drew wasn't interested in climbing the 154 stair steps to the top of Monk's Mound (frankly, I wasn't all that thrilled at the prospect either). Looked for a nice, quiet place in Granite City for lunch, but all the little restaurants downtown were closed as well. So, we settled on one of the chain places. It was pretty quiet in there for a good long time, until they started scooting tables together and the masses started coming in. Time to go. Stopped by a local market for Drew to pick up some provisions, then back to the RV park. Was really great to finally meet you, Drew. Thanks for all the great conversation, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your grand trip.

I got nothing significant done for the rest of the day, with the exception of some significant puttering.

Good evening, gents.

Good Afternoon,
Drew, glad to see you and Paul got together! I did notice you are eating healthier with that salad , although Paul’s fries looked pretty darn good to me ! 😂

Nice pictures, thanks !
He was making a valiant effort to eat more of the lettuce, Scott.
Me, on the other hand, I just ate the chicken tenders and didn't put much effort at all into the fries ... which were good.

Good evening all. 73ºF for the start, partly cloudy sky, light breeze. Light to moderate wind, sky became overcast but no rain, and high temp was 90ºF, HI 97ºF. Made coffee to start day, got to chapel set up at normal time, but they were done already, attend chapel, and help tear down, then off to breakfast with group. When I got home had to reorder one stove part other site out and no more parts expected, then ordered another part to help with glass replacement. Cleaned leaves off front porch and around small garage door. Decided to cover cooktop hole, found piece of chipboard that was painted and cut it should work ok for week or 2. Got nap in, didn't get catfish thawing in time for dinner, will bake it tomorrow.

Poured first cup of coffee. 46° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 70° with plenty of sun. Trip to Cider Mills was not what we expected. One was up for sale and had very little of their normal products. The other one was very crowded. Will try again later this week when most people are back at work. No plans for today yet.

Enjoy the Holiday.

Everyone stay safe and well.

Good Morning All.

70 to 80. Cooldown. Got the edge of another storm, so a few welcome drops.

Scott, sounds like a great family time at the beach...nice looking place, too.

Don, glad the pain is cooperating. That's a tough surgery.

Roasted 3 batches of coffee, some for my wife to take to our son/DIL today when she goes to babysit for a couple of days. Drinking some now.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,955
good morning from East St Louis Illinois where it is 63 out now.
cooler air meant no a/c last night, nice to have it quieter

Drew glad you had 50 amp adapter. Hope you take US 63 (Rolla exit) south to US 60 west to Mansfield
exactly, and already planning on getting gas in Rolla.

this is the most trains I've ever heard, not a problem, some are fun when the EMD's or GE's are under load and the slow thump thump thump of the engines going by. All I care about is the train doesn't derail and unload
chlorine gas on the neighborhood...

checked my engine oil late yesterday afternoon, still on full. I'll probably check it once a week, it has never used oil.

I"m still not confident in the transfer switch since the repair guy only screwed the wire nuts down tighter. I won't relax until it's properly done, and I keep imagining I"m smelling electrical smells. I asked RNG if we could borrow his soldering gun while I'm at his house, a good project for us.

got some fresh chopped fruit at supermarket yesterday which I will enjoy this morning with a muffin. And a hard boiled egg. I have lots of breakfast sandwiches but trying not to eat them every day. Puerto Rican coffee tastes good this morning.

Good morning, the low is 40 and going to a high of 64°F. Wind WNW 2 mph. A mix of sun and cloud.

It is time to start acclimatizing myself to the cooler temperatures. This is an annual thing and usually takes me until the middle of December to get it done. I don't know how good it will work this year because of the blood thinners the quack has me chewing.

I am going to enjoy the holiday and do nothing productive today.

Have a safe day all

/ Good morning!!!! #195,957
Good morning,
63° now highs in the low 70’s and mostly sunny today. Winds NW 5-10 mph, DP’s down into the upper 40’s by noon 👍.

Yesterday I finally managed to get the scrap steel and some old particle board shelving to the dump.

Today should be good day for some more “before winter” clean up and some general puttering around. That’s about all for today.

PJ - Drew glad you got to meet up.

Enjoy your day everyone

/ Good morning!!!! #195,958
53F more sun than clouds today upper 60's for high.

Outside chores done E muffin time.
Plans for today...quick trip to town, harvest all squash egg plant remove plants, think of something for bbqing  and putter.

Enjoy your day all.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,959
Thomas, glad you got some squash.
that five days of 96-98 degrees did all mine in.
I got two four inch almost decorative winter squashes out of all of it.

lots of time to kill this morning. I had bought some chopped fruit and when I ate the first piece knew it was bad. Whole bowl was sour, must have been old? I got a few pieces of honey dew melon out of it but rest went into trash.

been thinking how PJS and I can get rich.
coming out of the zoo ape house (which had zero apes) the electronic door slammed hard into side of my scooter, and my knee was sticking out.
about a one inch gash, but quite a wack to knee. Glad to report all is well this morning.
But if my knee has swollen...and I have an eye witness how the door simply attacked me, could be worth a big personal injury settlement. Of course I"d split it with my accomplice...what are friends for.

actually the sad thing is how often this goes on, the fake slip and fall and injury claims, always inside or just outside well insured restaurants or malls.

getting light out, time to go out and dump the tanks.

/ Good morning!!!! #195,960
Good Morning
It’s 63° and breezy, a high of 74 with low humidity and no rain.

Yesterday was fairly productive, I did get the mantle moved

IMG_5165.jpg

It’s definitely not a light weight. It will be interesting putting it in place.

I did finally get the speakers installed in the big room, it was far more time consuming than I expected. Partially because I needed to be very careful and not leave marks or handprints on the freshly painted ceiling, and partially because the cutouts had to be fairly close tolerance. But it’s done.

The only task left on my list of goals for the holiday weekend is to finish the short inside portion of the conduit run from the shop to the old folks home, and pull the cable and connect it. This is the feed and control wires from the generator to the transfer switch in the Old Folks Home. Once that’s done, I can either put my feet up or go the hangar and continue on the little plane.

The first order of business for today (after I finish my Special K) is to go to HD for some conduit fittings that I forgot to get when I was at the electrical supply stocking up for the weekend.
