Mmmm, went out to switch irrigation zones..... spotted a visitor...
.View attachment 884063
Looks to be a small bullsnake, definitely not a rattlesnake, so he can stay, just get relocated to another area.

The birds aren't happy.... he is on their perch where they get drinks. Interesting watching them watching the snake.
Looks like he ought to be holding a little fishing pole, lol. Good pic!

Dennis, TBN is closest I get to social media. I joined TBN because I was getting a tractor. Really learned a lot and hopefully gave back as well. Found GM and is my goto place, otherwise would be an infrequent poster/visitor. I would not be one to jump to a different platform should GM disappear.

fed by small gauge wire not even close to 30a.

knob and tube was 12 gauge copper, 20 amp.
I remember that in my grandfather's house, they never tore it out when
they rewired the house.

Romex came in the 60's for residential.
is there something newer/better now?

do any residential building codes require you to use nonflammable wire?
I know there are commercial specs arising out of life safety code.

I wonder when we will progress beyond wires.
maybe a different way to harness natural magnetism or gravity

You and me both, David.

I don't think that will happen in our lifetimes.

74F and overcast @ 14:30, calling for a high of around 79F for the day.

LWS reports the high yesterday was 93F and we got 0.12" of rain total.

But it looks as though the big cool down has finally arrived.

At least until tomorrow ... when they are calling for a high temp of 88F ...

After that it is really supposed to cool off, with high temps on in the 70's and low 80's for the rest of the Ten Day.

Got the slot cut in the bracket and the backing plate and motor cleaned off last night.

Have some running around to do this afternoon.

See what comes up after that.

Hope everyone is having a decent Wednesday ... (y)

RS, now you have to convince your wife of the need for a nice new powdercoating machine.
So that your repairs last longer and will cost you less in the long haul.
the very long haul........ ;)

went out and picked beans, got enough for dinner tonight.
I think they are getting to the end of the line, but they are still flowering, so that means
more beans.

grey and misty out but thankfully cooler.

been a busy day. Nice to sit down.
though I'll be up shortly to trim those beans.
self trimming green beans, now there's a good invention for Burpee
when self trimming does not mean that your wife just does it...

also got half a dozen blackberries while I was out, one too sour, I rushed it
like a huge dose of vitamin C
well...actually not
took some googling
16 blackberries to the ounce, one ounce meets daily vitamin c requirement.

so if you are stranded on a desert island, and you only have blackberries, you
should eat 16 a day.

I wish I could help Popgadget with something.
I'm doing my most effective helping staying far away
hey mister, what's that do? and that? and that?

he gets that enough from his grandson....

Also navigating the insurance maze. Just got a home owner policy written by USAA requiring an inspection. When we first built they denied coverage due to distance to hydrant and fire station. Supposed to get a virtual inspection.
Could be interesting.

Good Morning,

GM Paul, definitely thinking ahead there !

Kind of curious if you have any excavator experience or running a backhoe ? I know I don’t and have often wondered how many hours behind the controls to become efficient ?

Good luck with the trenching !

I count my early backhoe experience as a bit humbling. We had just moved here, George had just dug the cesspool and I volunteered to dig the trench to be ready for pipe next day. Next morning I showed him. George shook his head, “practice David, practice”
I did get better and have dug several hundred feet since.

82 with rain expected later tonight. Did get some rain overnight and thunder storms

Went to the appointment for eye check up and prescriptions. Only wife got the full exam since I had recently seen the Retina specialist and was cleared for another year.
Wife has beginning cataracts but it is not bothering her as of yet.

Presriptions changed only sightly.

Torqued the bolts around the mower gearbox and changed the Zerks and greased it.

Operating the Minix is fairly easy the learn. It is more difficult to do it with speed and accuracy. Also picking up smaller and more delicate objects takes more time to learn. Using the 3 ft bucket and scraping the ground level when backing out from a project takes skill because the bucket change angle as it is pulled back as well as moving vertically. That coordination when done properly gives great results

My first 2 deep trenches here I dug by hand and they looked really good
One of the reasons the tractor is here.

I don't have a hydrant for miles. The insurance company didn't seem to care.
I did not have a pool when I first moved in either.
I do know if I plug in a stove in my downstairs summer kitchen, that my insurance would ratchet up though.
Strange thing insurance.

friends of mine in Florida took Autotrain up here and could not get home due to flooding in SC.
So they had to drive.
my niece in Charleston said roads were flooded and blocked but her house and most of neighbor was up enough.

storm seems to have headed inland, will be more rain in VA and central PA than here

Good morning! 73˚F heading to 101˚ clear skies. We are under a heat advisory till tomorrow at 8PM, and air quality alert because it's a high ozone day. Sure would be nice to get some of that East coast rain. I still have two fig trees to transplant, might venture outside early to plant them and give the transplanted date trees a good watering.
Only .02” of the projected 1” for today, and that was over night.

Good Evening David,
Next morning I showed him. George shook his head, “practice David, practice”
David, kind of what I thought ! You don’t become really proficient overnight!

Thanks for sharing those some what comical memories ! 😉🙏

The short answer is yes, I have considerable experience over a long period of time. I was running a D9 dozer when I was 12 or 13.

As far as digging with an excavator or backhoe, the key is to understand how to dig, that you scrape the bottom of the trench, you can’t just push the bucket into the ground. Once you know how to dig, the hand eye coordination to make it happen comes quickly.

The very first thing I did with my new KL2475 tractor mounted BH was dig a grave for the Black Lab. The second thing I did was dig another grave for my cat. That was 2017 & 2018. It takes me about 10 minutes to retrain my hands to the controls every time I get on the hoe. R.I.P. Katie and Smokie.

I work the bucket the same way I use a spoon in a tub of ice cream. Scrape it along the top and keep going a little deeper every bucket.
