Good Morning Everyone

kenmbz -
are those turkey vultures (aka buzzards)? wingspan is 5-6 feet ? big, ugly, bright red head ? that's the only type that we see in BC, we previously had about a dozen of them living in the trees on our property. that was years ago ... the chickens are happier now (internet photo)

Did you know the turkey vultures migrate? Saw it once in Joshua Tree CA. 60 or so huge birds moving along in lazy circular motion.
Then they settled down into a stand of trees for the night, their weight bending and almost breaking the branches... kind of spooky

those birds have the ugliest faces
carrion eaters, they will come for us if they can...

Routine oil change, 135 bucks, including full going over of car. Which frankly needed nothing but unless it's up on a lift, you can't see a lot.
Every new car in there started at 60 grand. Many of us can remember when that would buy you a nice house.

changing clothes, out to get dirty, suck up the leaves and clean out the veggie gardens. Pretty breezy out.

I understand the negative feelings toward insurance. I sold my insurance agency when I wanted to deal with things that folks enjoyed.
Like electronics. So nice to see folks leave with a smile. That didn't happen too often with insurance.
I enjoyed claims adjusting. Making sure folks got paid quickly and fairly. Never was under any pressure to reduce claims amount, just do what was right.
All calls returned within one business day. All correspondence acknowledged and acted on within 3 days.
good old fashioned customer service.
Having taught all the insurance policies for two years at home office, I knew more about the policy language than anyone I dealt with, and why the companies
were happy to give me authority to pay claims for them. It's just contract law and I come from a family of contract lawyers.
But the business wore me out and it became all about the money and nothing about fun.

Seeing folks smile with anticipation was a delight in an electronics store. The change I was looking for vs all those years in insurance.
Later on became a financial planner and knowing insurance, long term care, etc was very helpful.
I do miss that Radio Shack. Don't miss being inside those closed walls six days a week. Most of us prefer fresh air.
Which I'm headed for now.

Good morning,
41° mostly cloudy West winds at 10 mph with gusts around 25 mph.

There used to be a large dead pine tree across the street from us that a couple of turkey vultures would hang out in. We used to joke about which one of us they were waiting for. They certainly are scary looking but pretty awesome when you see them soaring in the air currents.

Heading out to the coast shortly for some takeout seafood and watch the ocean, it’s nice when the crowds are gone for the season.

enjoy your afternoon everyone

69°F and .38 inches rain.

Spent too much at Costco yesterday without getting anything special. What a madhouse!!

Tracking notices say my items for my UniFi network are in my P.O. Box. Will retrieve those this morning and hopefully can get that reconfiguration finished today.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Sounds wonderful.
Now if you were headed for the Jersey shore, I'd meet you there!
How long a drive is it for you?

don't give Buppies any ideas or he'll be gone in a minute...

+1 on that. The ones here not only like plying the rising air currents, but swoop and dive through the trees at very near ground level. The back yard drops off into the canyon, and I often see them at eye level, some almost close enough to reach out and touch. It's pretty obvious that they do these things for the pure joy of flying. Kinda makes me jealous, except when I remember where they prefer to dine.

23°F and clear-ish skies this morning, going up to 43° today.

Hard to get up this morning. The bed didn't want to let go.

Nice, Chris. Been on a blues kick myself lately. Stumbled across a video last night of Erma Franklin singing Piece of My Heart, from '67, before Janis got ahold of it. Never knew Aretha had an older sister, and what a voice.

Good morning, gents.

34F and mostly cloudy @ 12:15, heading to a high of around 36F for the day. This mornings low hit 29.1F so hard freeze. Like Rich we got about 1/2" of snow overnight.

Got blood drawn yesterday afternoon after I got cleaned up.

Since I had showered, shaved, and was otherwise presentable, we decided on an early date night and headed out for dinner @ Eadies Fish House:

IMG_2098 copy.jpg

Normally any uncovered space on the walls and ceiling would be covered in dollar bills but they had all been taken down. Their parking lot had been paved so maybe that's where they went.

I had the all-you-eat fish and onion rings which was delicious (grouper), Woman had a bowl of their homemade New England Clam Chowder (also delicious) and a baked potato.

We were back at home by 18:30.

I did have a tall mug of a Vanilla Porter which was interesting so once we got home I promptly feel asleep for around 3 hours.

Did manage to get the Elephant Ear and the Spike plants moved inside last night before heading to bed so they wouldn't freeze.

Have a doctor's appointment later this afternoon, so that will put an interruption into getting much accomplished.

Probably go out and refill the hopper feeder.

Possibly get back to work in the dining room.

Hope everyone has a good Thursday ... (y)

Every new car in there started at 60 grand. Many of us can remember when that would buy you a nice house.
Coincidentally my first house cost me $58,950 back in '78. Now, after 1 addition and 44 years it's assessed at 10 times that much.
Wish my savings could have gone up that much that easy.

Reminds me of my days working insurance claims against Lloyd's London and other large insurance companies. Filing claims was a big deal and involved significant efforts to be able to recover as much as possible

Good morning for us. Was around 30degrees F. Sat in a blind cuz my sinuses are killing me. Seen some small does, hoping for something bigger to fill the freezer.

Then my bro in law shot this guy. Made the day worthwhile.

Nice 10 point. In comparison, bro in law is roughly 6'3" and pushing 300lbs.

28 going to 46 and some wind. Saw where western NY may get 1 to 4 feet of snow, and travel close to impossible over next couple of days. Lou, hope that doesn't make it all the way over to you.

Ron, looks like you got a good snow. Good advice to BEF. We need you guys here!

Son arrived last night and we discussed our hiking options...top choice will have wind chill of 8F, and likely icy trail due to frozen water from rain, and springs that flow onto trail in places. Nope. 2nd choice will have great flow in the waterfalls, but the Skyline Drive is closed due to snow and ice. 3rd choice may be to walk the aisles in Wegmans. 😁
How's your muzzleloader season going?

dealing in small town USA didn't have to deal with LLoyds much, something they called the secondary or substandard market. Lloyds was
the wild west of insurance, big gamblers on big risks. These are the guys who insure those oil tankers, wonder how much their underwriters drink...

Lot of back and forth on a claim. Claim person doesn't always know what to ask for until basic info comes in.
Big companies and big claims usually involve attorneys and a lot of papering one's file.
Ultimately the insurer must make an offer to pay, or refuse to pay. It's a fun process.
If there weren't so many crooked or misbehaving folks trying to rip off the insurance companies we would never have
gotten to this adversarial position. No one trusts anyone. Everything must be proved.

I have seem human dishonesty to a frequency and level that makes it hard not to be cynical. Money really does corrupt.

once upon a time there was a big scandal I think about Allstate in California.
Their California claims dept was caught automatically offering only 90% of the proper amount, sometimes lying about contributory negligence, other
times just for trying to save money. They were really fined for that. Sears had the same issues in some of the auto lube oil stores. Lots of cheating going on.

one of the things I looked for when dealing with insurance companies was did they release the check within a few days of receipt of all the info they wanted
and signed release, or did they wait until the last possible day of the 30 day period? I guarantee you Lloyds would wait until the 30th day.

32F partly cloudy steady wind ever now and than quick flurries.

Work day was busy.
By the looks of the new guard rails put up this summer on corner someone forgot about black ice, lots of black plastics and lens ...Black ice matter.

No plans for the evening...dinner feet up watch little tv and share recliner with kitten.

Enjoy your evening all.

don't forget the ice cream Thomas

this is pretty chilling video, all those police cadets mowed down like in a bowling alley
lot of questions not answered yet
Right in front of the police academy.
Bet they don't take them running on the street any more. Very sad.

went back outside to blow some leaves, so windy it was silly, I'll wait until tomorrow. Leaves on front tree need one more day to finish coming down.

Yes that is exactly the process to get it settled and involved a team of contract people and lawyers to prepare details of the claims and then finally settle or litigate. Spent several years as the lead manager on a number of insurance claims. Preparation and details of the claim are most important to recovery. The insurance companies in this area have agreements among themselves if a claim goes over certain limits to share in the risks so a large claim can not sink one company

Hi Drew,
It was wonderful despite alternating between getting gray and windy with snow squalls then the sun would pop out for awhile. I've always enjoyed the ocean even if the weather isn't perfect. If I take the highway its a 45-50 min trip @ 75+ mph, hate driving like that so we always take the back roads, so a little over an hour or so, no hurry. Now to the Jersey shore I'm gonna guess at around 7 or so hours. Last time I was in NJ was back in the early 1980's doing a startup of some industrial wastewater treatment systems at a defunct Imperial Oil site in E. Brunswick I think it was.
