Pouring here. Looks like I need some gutters cleaned. The one in back I finally cleaned is draining good, the high one at back of house appears to be overflowing. Also side porch is overflowing. .8” already

a friend of mine was having problems with trans overheating on his Honda Ridgeline and I got him an inexpensive OBD reader to
see if his codes told him anything. Curious to see what dealer was seeing, if they hadn't already erased trouble codes.
He made a decision to sell the car, which he just did, and is now out hunting a fairly new F150 to tow a small rv with.

So I have this OBD reader and another friend has a high mileage diesel jeep with a bunch of issues.
He seemed hesitant to plug it in.
All cars have the OBD plug under the dash I thought.
Assuming it's read only, can you hurt or reset anything by plugging a reader into the car's port?
I would think not but before I do something I regret...

that erase button looks potentially dangerous
Even if it only produces a numeric fault code, is is reasonable to assume if one Googles that code with brand of car
something will pop up online? free?...

oh my that smoked brisket looks good. Bet it smells good too.
Believe the Jeep Diesel is the Mercedes 3 liter V6. It is the same engine essentially as in the detuned version in the Sprinter Van. You Can use a generic code reader to read codes but it will not pick up all codes and not be as accurate as a specific code reader for the engine. You will be able to delete codes but if a code is active it will come right back. Before deleting always write down the code. The better code readers allow for more accurate data including historic data and near setting of codes and will also allow running data while driving plus data on factory repairs.

I have 4 sections of gutter cleaning pipe for my Echo blower. 2 sections will reach the garage, the horse barn and the porch gutters on the farmhouse. I need 4 sections to reach the gutter on the bank side of the barn but the front side is too high and I an not going up there on the ladder even if i could lift the big ladder into place. It is pretty satisfying to clean them out but it is pretty messy.

thanks Frits, his model is the Liberty which actually had the Italian VM diesel.
MB one would have been better...I had the six in my small MB rv.
I watch a number of car repair channels online and many use expensive Snap On and sophisticated readers.
haven't tried this one yet, curious to see if it gives an short explanation or just a code.

Then I'll go hook it up to the lawn mower. And the snow blower. Those poor little engines would finally have a voice...
How about my friend's new Kubota LX?
I know some tractors have something similar, but am guessing most builders are proprietary.

I'd be happy if they required all engines to have an hour meter.
And a temp gauge option for air cooled engines.

Chris, I always get stuff blown back in my face whether using a hose or blower.
be ever so careful on ladders. We have all demonstrated we don't bounce very well.

The MB clone reader that I use has the MB factory information imbedded in it and loaded on a laptop and connects to the port in the car via a transition module. It gives history, data on the code, location of the part, repair procedure and live data while running if requested. Also gives history on codes as well as temp codes that did not set as of yet. You can use it to actuated a number of things on the car such as ABS brake system while flushing brake fluid through it.

Also have the Scangauge connected to the engine permanently that gives extra programmed parameters while running such as trans temps, exhaust temps. best economy modes to drive etc. Also can read engine codes as well as delete them while on the road.

How high can you reach with your sections? On the high side of our building it is up at 30 feet or so.

I smaller AUX12 AGM in the back which covers for the Auto Stop engine....which I hate. Then the Yukon wouldn't start, another AGM battery...so about $550 batteries in a couple of weeks.

Can you not get into the computer and disable the auto-stop/start?
I have found no delete for it yet.
Good morning! A respectful salute to all the veterans today! Buckeye is that a hole or a ding in his helmet?

Our high for the day is now at 68˚F as the cold front with thunderstorms approaches and dropping to the forties by midnight. A freeze warning line for tomorrow morning is just 50 miles NW of here. Big changes and a few mornings in the 30s coming. Good time not to be on the tractor driving schedule.
BEF, that looks like a German helmet to me.

Don is having the storm go over him very soon with temps dropping. Still 72F here. A couple more hours to get here, looks like the worst is going north of us...wait and see. The first of the rain is just now falling at 11:13 am. Nice. We still have cracks in the ground.

The post oaks still have their leaves for the most part, one of my pecan trees is just starting to have some leaves turn yellow and drop. Maybe due to drought as much as anything.

Ron, thanks for the pics!

Popgadget, I'm going to classify you as an honorary Texan for those briskets! Very generous of you to cook for your VFD.

Salute to our Armed forces! Yesterday was the Marine Corps' 247th birthday. My grandmother played the piano quite well. She made sure us grandkids knew each service' fight song. Loved them all but also loved the Ballad of the Green Berets.
Old video but decent. As the band marches by, you hear the different instruments.

Work is crazy busy. Once people find out your willing to help, they come asking often. I do my best. The new cnc mill is finally hooked up to electricity. Now the service techs are coming Monday to do the finish install. It has so many options, they expect to take at least 2 days. I hope to hang around to get

Prayers for our team, our country, the churches, and for the Ukrainians to get peace.

The gutter cleaning pipe sections are about 3 feet so I guess I could reach up about 20 feet with 4 sections. 30 feet sounds about right for the height of the gutter on the high side, although standing on the ground it looks higher.

59F with steady rain @ 12:30, calling for a high of around 62F.

LWS reports 0.92" since midnight - does not look like any really heavy rains from Nicole will materialize. Rain should end around 21:00.

Yesterdays high hit 68F and was quite a nice day.

Got quite a bit accomplished yesterday.

More juggling pallets and tables around inside the barn.

Got another light fixture hung.

Dug out a groundhog burrow on the south side that went down about 3' on the inside of the barn to point that there was no further tunneling leading from it. Then got it all refilled.

Dug out the (interior) perimeter on the southeast corner so that foam board can be installed.

Moved everything that I didn't want to get wet back inside the barn.

Moved large pile of clay inside to prevent it from getting soaked any further.

Some grading done on the north end of the pad to hopefully prevent any ponding.

Dirt piled up in the opening of the north overhead door so that can be sealed up.

Woman cleaned up the planting bed behind the frog pond and got some day lilies in pots planted there.

Agenda for today:

At the moment, really not much.

Valves/fittings from Amazon to blow out water lines are out for delivery.

Might go over to the barn here in a bit to try and take advantage of the last of the warm temps.

Hope everyone has a great Friday ... (y)

BEF, maybe he is coming out of a German strong hold and took the helmet off one of the fallen occupants. Run the scenario by him to see it it sparks any follicles of memory.

The Tempest is not reporting (new unit was shipped today) but the manual Cocorahs is showing close to 2". Have to go outside when it stops raining and dump the overflow into the measuring tube to get the exact rain to the 100th inch. Now Tempest came back on-line, temperature dropped 18˚F, now 51˚F and falling.

My first Tempest also suffered an early battery death, but like you, they sent me a complete replacement station promptly. When I got the new station and set it up as a “replacement” so as to keep all my old data, it I took it a little while to come online.
So far today, the Tempest says .25 inches of rain and the Davis is reporting .29, so it’s in the ballpark. All other parameters match pretty well.

They have already e-mailed me detailed instructions on how to set the new station up as a replacement. Good to know it will take time to come on-line so I don't rush it and mess it up or think it's broke. Thanks.

Saw a YouTube video of a girl at an auto parts store asking for headlight fluid. someone set her up.
Also seen some on youtube...
Women asking auto tech where to add oil in her car engine, auto told her and she said no such cap just 710 cap.
Women at town meeting asking the board if they would remove Deer Crossing sign so deer won't cross there anymore and being hit by vehicles.

Yeah you gotta wonder at times.

Just realized I missed lunch, so grabbed a bowl of soup.
Been busy running numbers on retirement again. Other than reducing fuel usage, don’t see many places to cut expenses in order to go full retirement. Might have to look for a tractor driving job.
Without starting SS early, I’ll have to contribute from my retirement nest. Course about 20% to go towards taxes.

No money in my calculations for a cabin yet.

Hasn’t rained in awhile. 1.17”
