Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 6:45AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 93F. Winds light and variable.
A band of monsoon moisture is passing through for the next several days, bringing clouds and higher humidity. (42%). That’s nothing compared to 90% humidity I suffered with back east, but it’s also well above the single digit readings we’ve been seeing every afternoon.
When I retired I purchased a bunch of razor blades for my triple blade handle, and eight years later I’m less than half way through. I try not to shave more than three times a week, and like a few of you, could not get over the razor burn from electric cutters. Edge shave cream keeps it to a minimum with the blades, but it’s still irritating, especially where the motorcycle helmet strap rubs under my chin. Earlier this year I got a six pack of Edge from Amazon, and I uses so little, it just might be the last time I ever buy shave cream.
Glad your A/C misadventures are coming to an end soon, Jay. But I bet I am not as happy about as your wife, and especially Brogen!
When Adobe first came out with Photoshop and Illustrator, I got a copy of each to use at work, mostly for editing photos and creating buttons and other widgets for software. Never did get the hang of Illustrator, and never upgraded that copy. Still use an ancient version of Photoshop, but now just for minor photo editing. When it finally quits running, probably due to an OS upgrade, I’ll have to go find something like GIMP because I refuse to accept the subscription model being foisted on us by several of the big software companies. The network is so unreliable here, the software would be unuseable much of the time because it wouldn’t be able to call home to find out if the license is good. I also learned long ago that the client-server model is also subject to network vagaries and is not to be trusted. And I’ll stick with USB drive copies for my backups, thank you very much. None of that cloud based crap for me!
I can’t imagine a pool table in my shop, Bird, but I’ve given some thought to putting one in the great room. If I tried to put it out in the shop, it would soon be covered with a piece of plywood, and that would be stacked with bits of projects and covered with grinding dust or paint overspray...
No good news at the eye doctor yesterday. He just confirmed that the right eyelid is still not closing all the way when I blink, which leads to a dry eyeball and profuse watering, first on the right side, then sympathetically on the left. Had a heck of a time with the eye test, the result being less magnification in a new perscription which I very likely won’t fill.
I did manage to find a very nice breakfast restaurant called Mom’s in Chico, enjoying the best heuvos rancheros I’ve had in that town. Something changed at the place called Morning Thunder I used to favor, and the food had an iron tainted flavor that I think was coming from not cleaning the grill properly. It changed hands several years ago and hadn’t been right since. The new place is down town with parallel/metered street parking, lots of fun in the crew cab equipped 8’bed F250. Finally found one on the end that was easy to get into, but forgot I had a backup camera and had to get out twice to see how close I was getting to the car behind me. Then I forgot where I parked, but Siri remembered and showed me exactly where it was on the iPhone map when I asked. I was only off a block of where I thought I’d left it...
Checked on the van yesterday, and while there was no sign of the mechanic, his helper was actually working on it. The muffler was on but it was clear there is still not enough room between it and the engine mount, and I’m pretty sure the’ll be some banging and clanging when the engine starts the first time. It still needs the coolant hoses hooked up to the A/C compressor, which apparently requires a pair of fittings to be installed on the hoses, and it needs some reinforcement to be welded onto the frame where the engine mounts go. The helper said he hoped to finish that work today, then revealed he’s looking elsewhere for a new job and hoped to be gone in no more than two weeks, if he can even stay that long. All due to the constant stream of interruptions caused by dissatisfied customers coming in looking for the mechanic, who’s response for the past few weeks has been to just not show up for work. I told the helper that there’s a case of beer in it for him if he gets the work done, and got his phone number in case I need his help to finish it myself.
I’ve always had pretty good luck on Friday the 13th, but consistently bad luck on the days immediately before and after...
