Good morning everyone.

A beautiful late Winter/Early Spring day here today; sunny and calm; temperatures were in the mid30's. It may reach near 60 this PM= A great day to putter around outside = I need to repair my Big Green Egg's cracked inner ceramic shell.

We started shopping for a new Subaru Forester yesterday. I still consider them to be one of the best snow handling car in their price range and their AWD is a proven performer. Wifey is leaning toward the Forester 2.5 Touring package. Lot's of new and fancy (expensive) gizmos on these new vehicles; lots of blinking lights  Someday I will post about a really interesting infant research study about blinking lights and gender differences. There are reasons for those blinking lights. ;)

This pending weekend weather event will be a nasty wet and windy event with some possible higher elevation snow for parts of NE. The two main low pressure systems do not really phase together, but the coastal storm that does develop will supposedly "bomb" close to the NE coast and the commahead wraparound moisture could become really "interesting" as to precipitation amounts and type. Yesterday's NWS predicted storm paths of all the different "pieces" looked like a loose shotgun pattern. Like Buppies posted as more storm data is gathered the accuracy of prediction starts improving @ the 72 hour timeframe. This weather event will hopefully set the stage for a colder and snowier event March 7 - 9 as noted by Buppie and others here.

Buppies- You posted about a total medication change. I hope you wean off the old meds and adjust to your newly prescribed meds w/o any difficulties.

Ed- I hope Mom is stabilizing and improving. Extra prayers, wishes, and thoughts sent.

My positive thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

No weaning as I'm out of the other

This appeared in our local Fire, Accidents, and Crimes Facebook Group this morning:

PARADISE: 2/28/2018: About 1/2 hour ago, a call to Paradise PD was placed by Feather River Hospital to report a husband was in the emergency room with a laceration to his forehead from getting hit in the forehead with an axe by his wife during a domestic violence altercation.

UPDATE: 10:26 AM: One female en route to Butte County Jail from Feather River Hospital.

My comment was: "There goes his ride home."

I don't know why people think I'm insensitive...

Buppies-

I am not complaining with the changing forecasts. I would prefer snow. This pending weather event has had many pieces in the mix and lots of modeled outcomes. Every time I "tune in" to my favored weather discussion thread there is new source material being discussed. I highly suspect that you and I and a couple of other posters here have similar favorite sites and sources. I am getting close to stimulus overload with this storm and its multiple components. I agree next week's storm is mostly a NE event. Almost easy to "watch."

Thanks for the medication switch information.

RNG- I like your "insensitive" sense of humor.:D I have been called a callous, insensitive "AH" a few times myself. Are you old enough to have earned your curmudgeon status?

Yeah, so have I, especially by the latest ex. And I'm old enough that I'm thinkin' about claiming Social Security this year, so prolly so.

Seriously, domestic violence is no laughing matter. It happens way too often, especially in this area. And women seem to be the aggressors more often than not, in spite of the usual stereotype. Maybe it's because any decent man just won't hit a woman, no matter how hard pressed.

RNG- I agree with you. Most individuals do not know about, care about, nor understand just how widespread domestic violence is in the USA. Working in a secure female psychiatric admission unit for +10 years (1 year an attendant, +9 years psychologist) exposed me to quite "a few" criminal domestic violence cases in which the abused victim after years of unrelenting abuse finally became the "ultimate survivor" and killed the abuser or put a really serious hurting on them. The MA court system handles these types of abuse cases humanely and fairly with a focus on helping the "victim" now "survivor" get supports that were needed to move on in life. I am happy to have been part of the process.

PJS- You may be correct. The ax-wielding perp's actions may have been "triggered" by knowledge of the "hatchet" perp through the news. How the USA handles its mentally ill needs to be seriously re-examined. Jailing them does not work. Homelessness does not help. Having no life "structure" or community based supports does not help. The mentally ill's "right" to refuse medication or treatment services even when adjudicated incompetent needs to be re-evaluated.

Almost thirty years ago I owned a little franchise Radio Shack in our small PA town, and I sold televisions.
Magnavox for the low end, Panasonic, Sony and Hitachi for the higher end.
Read an article in our local paper about a new shelter going up for battered women, and wanted to help in some way.
So I called and offered to donate a color tv for their shelter. Went through vetting to make sure I wasn't a bad guy, which impressed me, as the
location of the home was being kept private to safeguard the women.

I delivered that 27 inch Hitachi color tv to that home, a converted older modest two story home, and what I saw made my knees weak, in all the wrong ways.
Women with black eyes, women with bandages around their heads, women shying away from any men, hiding, some with young children hanging on.
I was close to tears before I left.

Yes, the sexes can get reversed, one female movie star just got booked for domestic violence. But we know who the usual aggressors are here.
Alcohol and drug addiction, and genuine mental illness beyond normal anger management enable pretty horrible behavior.
I'll never forget the mental picture I have of the one woman with the black swollen eye holding her baby and the other woman with the head bandages trying to
comfort a crying four year old who was scared in a new place. And probably scared for seeing Mommy hurt.
Luckily I didn't see any hurt kids. Then I think I would have gotten even angrier

Just think of what it must be like to be a lower caste woman in India. Those women are abused with impunity. Murdered with self righteous zeal.
A real lack of decent men there RNG...

Maybe she was inspired by the whackjob who tried to climb a fence into a school yard in Vegas, screaming threats with a pick ax yesterday?

Ax-wielding woman climbs fence, threatens children on North Las - FOX5 Vegas - KVVU

Someone referenced that link in the Facebook post I quoted, PJ. No doubt that violence in the media educates and inspires more violence. Where else are all the mass shooters getting the knowledge to select semi auto weapons and accoutrements to deliver the most lethal attack possible?

Particularly with domestic violence, how do authorities determine who is the victim? People lie, so of what value is he-said-she-said information? In this case, if the woman wasn't visibly harmed (no cuts or bruises), there's little to contradict any assertion she might make to her innocence, or a claim of self defense. Yet there's this man sitting in the emergency room with his forehead split open, purportedly by an axe swung by his domestic partner.:confused2:

RNG- Lot's of really bad stuff can happen in these "situations." There is always a "story" w/i a "story" with "equal blame" for their current situations... It's really hard to "sort 'things' out". Abuse can go both ways in different ways and it never ends well for all involved.

Especially first responders.........

Daugen- There are times I wish that I could <delete> the memories of the "bad stuff," but to forget and not be angry and not do "anything more" is not possible. I owe it to the "survivors and the victims." As you posted, this is not just a USA "challenge."
