Good morning!!!!

66°F and .01 inches rain.

DL renewal went much smoother than anticipated. Arrived 20 minutes early and left in 30. Old license was already a Gold Star and although instructed to bring documentation, none was required. Due to age I get to do it again in 2 years.

Need to start a round of mowing.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Don, that constant motion knee flex machine of yours sure looks similar, but a little different from the one my doctor used. Can you adjust the angle degrees yourself, or do they have to do it? I was able to adjust mine myself at will, and they acted surprised that I increased the flex as much as I did, as soon as I did. Of course I don't know whether I actually did better than expected, or if they were just trying to keep my spirits up.🤣🤣 And I don't know about your hospital, but I was amazed at how good the nurses were AND how good the food was when I was there.

Incidentally, I learned that another doctor in the same office doing the same surgeries never used one of those flex machines.

42F and "Fair" @ 14:00, heading up to a high of 44F.

Other than this coming Sunday (37F), Ten Day shows highs in the low-to-mid 40's. Mind you, I'm not complaining ... ;)

Definitely seeing more activity out back around the feeders today, birds plus a couple of squirrels. Probably should check water in birdbath.

Stringing wire for electric fence and getting it hooked up is what is on agenda for today.

Cub is almost out of gas, so I'll need to do something about that at some point.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe TGIF ... (y)

Insurance now does not cover the rental of the constant motion knee flex machine so that is why some doctors do not recommend it. Long term studies indicated that results are the same with or without the machine. Where the machine really helps in in the short term. I have no regrets and am seeing results already. My Doctor Strongly recommended it for the first 3 weeks after surgery, it was delivered to the house the day before surgery so I could jump right in just 24 hours after surgery.

Some articles say that you should use your leg muscles and the machine makes you lazy but these first few days my leg muscles are so sore there is no way I could do it without the machine. I only have 2 weeks to get a good flex after that scar tissue forms and will reduce the range of motion on my knee.

The machine came set at 60˚ and the instructions said to increase it 5˚ to 10˚ each day. The second day home I went up only 5˚ because of the post operative swelling. Today I went up 10˚ to 75˚ and a few at 78˚. I should be at 90˚ well before the 2 week goal. I'll have to bend my knee at 90˚ by myself without the machine so I'm thinking I need to go to at least 100˚ on the machine, of course I will check with the PT tomorrow to confirm my plan.

Don, that's quite a machine, hope it helps. Don't let it go 180...

spent all afternoon trying to find a pianist and struck out, but did find a church member with a small PA system so our
carol "half time show", which is someone orating the Christmas Story, will go on outside Sunday night. I'm already cold thinking about it.
Picked up two gallons of local cider, always a safe bet. Plus a peck of apples, which I had to look up too...12-14 pounds. For 15.75 for the peck.
Pretty good deal for apples, particularly ones not coated in carnauba wax. I've been handing the extra apples out to friends.

I have a bag of apples and two pears to take across the street to neighbor. Got a box of pears from a friend, not my favorite fruit though I'll enjoy them, but just too many
for one person to eat in a week.

Pear pies are just as good as apple pies.
Just substitute the pears for the apples in the recipe and if they are hard pears microwave or boil them till soft.

Don, my insurance DID pay for it, BUT I only used it IN the hospital; didn't take it home.

Don, did you ever make sheep sorrel pie? I remember when I was a kid, twice I made a sheep sorrel cobler. Taste was great and the whole family liked it, BUT the color was too close to what i tried every day to avoid stepping in when I'd go to milk the cow.😀😀

Don, I've had pear pies, they are ok but I like others better.
And I need to keep eating raw apples and not apple pies til I lose 20 pounds.
But......
I did treat myself to a jar of local sour cherries to make a pie.
Need to buy some pie crusts for that.
successfully resisting the impulse to crack that lid and dip a spoon in there for a taste.

UPS brought a little impulse buy that would make RS happy.
Next time I need some fresh air I'll plant them, sunshine narcissus daffodils, but rain tomorrow.
Actually if it's warm enough, I don't mind working in light rain if I have a hat on.

Now that they no longer use general Anesthesia and they expect you to leave the same day as surgery. They said about half do. The ones, like me, who got a late start and did not finish till afternoon, and are still too numb to be stable are the exceptions and then they discharge first thing the next morning.
How many days were you in the hospital after surgery?
It has now been been 77 hours since my surgery and I have had nine 1 hour sessions on the knee flex machine.

I have never had that type of wild pie. I did make a Wild Mustang Green Grape pie but it was so tart that I had to add way too much sugar.

36F and "Fair" @ 18:30, low tonight is supposed to be 38F ... lol ... so a warming trend apparently ?

Trying to warm up feet which are frozen, got top 4 wires put up on the electric fence ... will do the bottom 2 the next time it isn't raining outside, probably Sunday.

Managed to inadvertently test that the charger was working when I connected the other three wire to the one that had the feed from the charger hooked to it ...

The area is only enclosed on three sides so it remains to be seen as to whether that will keep the deer out. If not, I'll have to add wires on the fourth side.

Hopefully they'll get shocked a few times and learn to avoid the area. Gathered up some empty cans out of the recycle bin and will drill them so they can be hung by a string so the noise will hopefully help deter them as well.

Watered some of the pots we brought in the other day ... with some "assistance" from The Squeak:

Just printed out a couple plans for hopper feeders, may go downstairs and get the wood cut for those and do some work on the various other woodworking projects.

Then see about some dinner.

Don, a green grape pie recipe is what I used for the sheep sorrel. But of course instead of the green grapes, I cooked the sheep sorrel (can't remember how long), drained the water, then pressed the sheep sorrel through a ricer. And I wouldn't do it again now.

Don asked, "How many days were you in the hospital after surgery?"

It's been a long time ago, Don. I had the surgery on August 30, 2010. After the surgery, I was in recovery at 1300, then to my room; sat up on the edge of the bed for about 15 minutes, but the rest of the time on my back with the CPM running each night while I slept. Of course CPM was "constant passive motion" machine. Supper that first night was clear liquid, but not bad.

The next two days (8/31/2010 and 9/1/2010) was a normal diet. And each night when I was in bed I was using that CPM. Of course during the day I was out of the bed to go the bathroom, shower, and for physical therapy sessions; mostly walking with a walker both level and up and down stairs. Then on 9/2/2020 we had what they called a Graduation Luncheon for 5 of us patients and our spouses and then home by 2 p.m.

Incidentally, that graduation luncheon was a big slice of roast beef with gravy, potatoes, english peas, little cocktail onions, dinner roll, mixed green salad with choice of dressing, chocolate cake, and cookies. Now I'm a big eater, but I couldn't eat everything they brought even though it was good.

By the way, I got a Zimmer knee. (http://www.zimmer.com/z/ctl/op/global/action/1/template/HM/id/)

Good evening, we lost power yesterday about 1 P.M. and it just came back on a half hour ago. The high winds took out the power wires and probably some trees came down on them too.
I thought I had more ethanol free fuel than I had. Genny almost ran out. Junior told me when he refuelled it at 9 last night that we were out, but I had a gallon stashed and siphoned some out of the ride on mower with the blown motor. Refuelled the genny at 3 A.M., went back to bed until 6:30, then went to the gas station in Sundridge (he has the old style pumps and a generator), he told me he was running low on regular (10-15% ethanol) but had lots of high test (ethanol free). Got 10 gallons and dumped 5 as soon as I got back into the genny. When we took the dog to the vet for a followup appointment I got another 5. They told me that they had run out of regular at noon.
Had a tree come down in the driveway. Junior went and got the driveway opened up again and the next time I plow some snow I will shove it back into the bush.

Temperature right now is 23 and it is going down to 12°F. Wind NW 7 mph. A cloudy evening and overnight.

rs, are you going to hook up 110 volt power to the fence?:devilish: Fried venison.

Bird, were the 'English peas" mushy peas? They are big fat peas in a pea like gravy.

Have a safe evening all

Day started with driving in some heavy rain.
Got in to college sons apartment about an hour later than planned, but didn’t take too long to load his stuff. Stopped at harbor freight for a movers dolly for washer and dryer, which are now strapped down in back of the truck.
Checked into hotel, then went and ate Chinese food with our friends that live here.
Very foggy here tonight. More rain expected.

Driving across I40 near the Tennessee river, saw where a tornado had gone thru. All trees down for a wide swath both sides of the interstate. Will try to get a picture on return trip.
