Where I grew up we called black snakes, black racers because of how fast they could move.

I was right there with you two years ago, sure is better now, we know who to thank don’t we?

What was interesting, the snake was trying to dig down into the dirt. Wonder if it had nest or eggs there.

Thank the good lord.
I’m glad CV wasn’t here yet when I was in hospital.
Yesterday was one of my busiest days in a long time. Once I get going, I keep going. Didn’t come in for lunch till almost 4 pm, ate sandwich and back out. Today will be pay bills day.
We had a downpour this morning, .32” in about 5 minutes, now 84° and sunny.
Worship went well, except couldn’t stream the sermon slides. Got it working after service. The song slides streamed ok from different laptop. I stream straight from PowerPoint, and put that in the corner of the overall video stream.
Wngsprd, sounds like nice day trip, especially finding good restaurant.
Buppies, vacations don’t last long enough, do they. Still want to see the WW2 memorial down your way.
David, hope caretaker works out.
Noticed the local dodge dealer still has good inventory.
Need to order new batteries for UPS units. Think I’ll buy one new one, swap them one at a time.

68F with steady hard rain @ 14:00, was a torrential downpour a couple minutes ago.

1.98" accumulation since midnight and we are currently under a Flood Advisory.

Did not make it back downstairs last night to glue more pvc, might head down there in a little bit and take care of that.

Going to be an inside day today, might end up being an inside week with all the rain that is forecast.

No matter, plenty of stuff to do inside or out.

Enjoy your Sunday ... (y)

Drew,

Have the same problem with our grease gun (an old air-powered Coleman I think) dripping oils out.

I had The Woman pick up a (relatively) cheap Sterlite plastic tub from Dollar General that I use to store it.

Piece of cardboard in the bottom to absorb the oils, keeps the lint, dust, and dirt off of it.

But that Lucas grease that RNG mentioned seems like it would worth checking out.

There's a pool of water at the bottom of the lower front yard and I can hear the catch basin (100' away) running.

Still hasn't exceeded the the smaller pipe in the yard around the house that it drains into though.

64°F and rain this morning, going up to 81° today. We're in a little break right now, but more storms expected later today and into tomorrow.

Going to have to find some time after work a couple days this week to get some grass mowed. More rain forecast for Friday through Monday next weekend. Feast or famine here this year. Got caught out in the barn for awhile this morning while I was out there to feed the chickens, and had to wait out a couple of serious downpours.

Made a second drying rack for The Wife's paintings this morning. Opened up 484 holes in a piece of masonite pegboard to accept the 5/16" dowel rods, which I cut to 24". She had been keeping them in the spare bedroom next to my studio. But since we had to clean that out to make room for the boy's triumphant return, she moved them to the dog grooming table set up in front of her quilting machine.

The rest of my day will likely be spent in the studio.

Sorry about your vehicle woes, Drew. We want to replace our F-150, but there seems to not be a whole lot to choose from out there right now in the lightly used vehicle market, and what is available is either overpriced or not worth having.
We found out about vehicle availability when we started looking. Just nothing around. People are getting off on it. Some are trying to sell used trucks for over $3000 more than what I paid for my new one because there is such a wait list on new ones. As I said I was lucky as I just happened to walk in when a deal fell over for a new one and so they offered it to me on the spot. Just the model I wanted. Anyway, I pick it up tomorrow if they get the pre-delivery and cleaning done today.
Good luck with your search.

Phil, nice job on the mower engine. Did it need a new head gasket? New intake valve?
Once upon a time I had a compression tester and that came in handy a number of times.
that's a John Deere single cylinder horizontal engine, either a Kohler or a Briggs. ??
You got that thing clean enough to eat off of. I love seeing people DIY for themselves. Hope it works like new when done.
Thanks! Briggs engine. The head gasket let go and blew all the oil out the intake and exhaust. This is a known issue and you can see why. No bolt in the part between the piston and valve area. Poor design by someone.
I mowed the grass today and it ran great with no leaks!

Made a Costco run. Surprised at the number of people wearing masks. No UPS there.

Thomas, do you have a favorite muffin like cinnamon raisin or do you stick with plain?
My favorite Thomas muffin is the cranberry variety, which they used to make once a year.
No longer, not around here, haven't seen cranberry muffin in a long time.
I've try cranberry kinda clashes with butter and peanut butter so I stuck with plain. :)

Drinking first cup of coffee. 63° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 79° with cloudy skies all day. It rained all day yesterday. Got everything on my list done yesterday. Nothing. Hope it is dry enough today to put weed killer down. They are winning the battle in some areas of yard.
Little ones have to be fed even when it is raining.

The hat I ordered showed up Friday. Wore it to cut grass Saturday. It worked well. Much quieter than baseball cap. It has a knitted area around inside. This helped keep it on. The only gap is from my glasses which makes my Worktunes fit much better and are quieter. Head size adjustment was 22 to 24". I purchased it on Amazon. But could not find it today.

Buppies, glad you had a good time at beach.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

good morning folks
warm and wet day again with showers coming in this afternoon, seems to be a pattern setting up.
I'm off to PT, then supermarket, then home to work in the garage organizing tools a little.

my first tomato yesterday was great, more acidic than what you get in store, fresher of course.
And I see my first Black Beauty eggplant starting to form. Chatted with neighbor with kids and she is excited about bringing her
young kids over next weekend to pick potatoes.

trying to figure out what approach to take with Honda salesman. Didn't return my phone call in a week, clearly dodging me.

Already muggy, going to 94.

Kyle, that friend of your daughter can really eat. Hope the beast is running well.

Glad you had a good stay at the beach, Buppies. Ends too soon, right?

Boosted my walking mileage up...did 3.6 miles in the woods...still catching and killing deerflies each walk...total is 939 this year...the deerfly "season" usually ends mid-August, so don't think I'll catch last year's total of 1,940. I wouldn't bother counting, but became amazed a few years ago how I could kill over 100 in a hike, seeming to have wiped them out, only to go back the next day and kill another 100. At least I'm only finding an occasional tick. I'm easily entertained. 😁

Good Morning!!!! 78F @ 4:00AM. Sunny. High 104F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Looking forward to some cooler weather by the end of the week. Yesterday's high here was 109F.o_O

Two large wildfires raging north of here. One in Oregon is threatening power lines that feed California, so we have a Flex Alert starting at 4PM today. I'm signed up with PG&E that they can cut power to my A/C unit if they start running low, but with the new solar wiring, I'm not sure it'll work anymore because I think the signal comes in over the power lines. We'll see.

Do any of the noise cancelling headphones have bands that go around the back of your head? Seems like that would take care of the hat problem. I'm finding the canopy on the M62 is quite the luxury: No hat required to protect my noggin from the sun.

That many deerflies on a hike would drive me absolutely nuts, Billy. How do you stand it?

I think I've finished digging by the pumphouse after pulling a football sized rock out yesterday. Gonna need another trip to HD for more PVC fittings, though, and it probably won't be the last. Found a couple more cave ins on the trench when I walked it yesterday, but let them be because they're probably not the last, either. Still have to order one last wire for the electrical conduit, but I think I can take care of that today.

Made up an external boot disc so I could try my main laptop with Apple's latest Big Sur OS, and as always some of my software will require expensive upgrades. This time around, though, I'll be looking toward the Open Source community for a more affordable alternative that doesn't involve yearly or even monthly subscription fees.

Today I'm gonna see if I can't get in a little motorcycle maintenance before it gets too hot out in the garage. Thought about it yesterday, but it was a regular oven out there by the time I had lunch.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

TxDon, nice hat. Was surprised to see it's pricy.

Billy, so do you just swat the deerflies by hand, or do you carry a secret weapon?

We got a minimum amount of rain this weekend. Call it a trace.

I changed oil/filter in the Yaris and Yukon.

I have to drop daughter off at work this morning. It is about 12 miles, in the wrong direction. So it makes my commute about 92 miles. :(

RNG, prayers y'all get some rain.

I got to go, more later.

Billy, so do you just swat the deerflies by hand, or do you carry a secret weapon?
I do have a secret weapon...a butterfly net my wife bought at the Dollar store...in fact she bought about 6 since they tear after a while. The deerflies want to land high on the body...never seem to care about the legs or trunk, so I just wave the net in a figure 8 over my head, and occasionally along the side of my arms. After a while, I grab the net and choke it down to squeeze the life out of the suckers...then count them in the net. When I'm at the bridge, I dump them in the creek where the frogs and water striders grab them...fast food.

RNG, it isn't too much of a bother as long as I remember to take the net. The biggest bother is occasionally knocking my hat off as I wave the net. They are only out about 2 months during early summer, and I rarely encounter mosquitos...maybe the deerflies eat them. Funny thing is when I hike in the nearby battlefield forest park, I never see deerflies. I hope you don't have problems with losing power. Does Apple make you pay a fee to use its OS?

Good morning
It’s 70 going to 85 with thunderstorms possible all day.

Yesterday went pretty well overall, rehearsal went well with only one or two train wrecks.

Family came from NY to pick up speakers and see the alpacas. There were 3 young kids that were just bouncing off the walls. Totally out of control or hyperactive, not much direction or discipline from parents.
Wife was not sorry to see their taillights in the lane. The good news was they took two speakers with them in their Diesel Mercedes SUV.

Today I’m off to help a friend put up a couple of steel Flitch plates on an old mortise and tenon beam. The plan is to clamp them in place and use a magnetic drill press to drill square through the beam. Hopefully the plan works.
