64 right now...high in the mid-80's...possible thunderstorms this afternoon...

Got home yesterday...wifey and stepdaughter had done the weekly shopping (groceries). We ate a pretty hardy supper. Went out to see if I could break those nuts loose on the flail mower...still frozen. So, applied more PB Blaster and will try again this afternoon. These are pretty small nuts (12mm across the flats) and the studs are welded to the mower end plate. If PB Blaster doesn't do the job...not sure how I'm going to remove the nuts without damaging the stud threads...

Do you have a battery powered impact driver Roy? Perhaps the impact .. will break the nuts loose?

I have a Ridgid 18 V impact driver that works well on small nuts / bolts. Yours are likely 8 mm nuts.

Morning all, Grey and humid , up to 91 today, calling for less than .2" could use more, 1" Friday.
I hope it does not rain Sunday or trip to Long Island is going to be tiring. Visiting friend I have known since Kindergarten and some other High school friends.

Spend a few hours clearing out brush around another dead ash, those vines, hineysuckles and thorny brambles take a lot of work even with brush cutter and pole saw. But opened up some goo escape paths. Lot of large fallen branches from the tree, do its a bit shorted now.

scaredychicken - happy almost birthday!
RS - BP sounds good! Glad Dr. visit went well-guess you will be adding planting to your list of tasks
Kyle - congrats on Son's award!
Ron - sorry to hear about your Aunt, don't make her laugh (too) much. Hope she heals quick
Drew-took me many months for shoulder pain to go away, titanium rod and crews etc. Hope pain starts to reduce soon.

Stay safe and be well,

Time to prep Chainsaw and pole saw for more tree removal, after work of course.

66°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 86° today. Some rain passed through before I got up at 5am, but it doesn't look like we got much.

The foster dog, Cecilia (Wife calls her Cici), made it through her surgeries OK yesterday. They removed a cyst from the inside of her mouth, removed a fatty growth on her neck, and spayed her. She was groaning a lot last night, so the pain meds may not be working to optimum effect. The Wife said they found something on one of her ovaries, and sent it off to have it analyzed. Hoping it's not cancerous. Wife took her downstairs and set up a big area of dog beds and blankets for her, and slept on the couch by her last night.

Congrats on your son's awards, Kyle.

I saw that GM remark, too, BEF. I chuckled lightly, rolled my eyes, and scrolled on.

The one that responded with the chicken was funny.

Good morning! 77˚F, cloudy. Park Cedarcide is rain delayed for a week.
Late sleep-in after thunderstorm riled up Whipper at 3:A. M. with .35" of rain.
Kyle, congratulations to your son on a successful year in school. Now the pressure is on him for a repeat next year.
Roy, I too would try an impact driver like Rick suggested.
My Easter Lillies are in full bloom after the GREAT TEXAS FREEZE. I guess they are Memorial Day Lillies now.
Could not add pic. pic in next post.

Yep...didn't even budge 'em...

I have the same impact wrench as you, BTW...

The nuts are very close to the housing, so it's not particularly easy to get a socket on...but while typing this, it occurred to me I should use a deep socket. Using a deep socket should put more socket bearing on the nut...if those T-storms in this afternoon's forecast stay away, I'll try again

78F and partly cloudy @ 11:30, feels like 80F. Scattered thunderstorms this morning becoming more widespread later this afternoon with the possibility of some being severe. 80F predicted for the high. Chance of rain 80%.

Dug out The Woman's bin of potting soil in the garage, she is working readying up her pots for new flowers. Just started sprinkling though ...

Need to call Chapin and see if they have managed to ship any non-defective parts yet for the spreader.

Looks to be largely an inside day today, some plumbing work in the basement possibly on the menu.

One of the larger rhododendron transplants I did last year:

All the weeds might be acting as camouflage ... to hide the hostas from the deer ...

This one is not a transplant but it seems to be doing well, but needs pruned ... and the area where it's planted needs cleaned up and mulched though:

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 8:45AM. Sunny. High 92F. Winds light and variable.
We'll see 100F starting Sunday, with highs in the high 90s to over 100 for the rest of the 10-day. Gonna head to the mountains and stay there, I think.

Looks like you've out Roned Ron, Don. Beautiful lilies.

Congrats to your son, Kyle. You and the wife are doing a wonderful job raising your kids.

Short motorcycle ride went well yesterday morning, didn't want to come back. All the lights worked when I got back, except the headlight. The lens was warm, and I know it was working when I left. After the tractor surgery, I replaced the bulb with an LED I had laying around, lots of new scratches on my hands from the cramped quarters behind the bulb housing. Not a job I like doing, so I hope I found the problem.

Guy at the hydraulic shop found a kink/cut in one of the hoses I brought in, likely caused by a stick like the one that snatched off the battery lead. I got him to make up heavier replacements for both the hoses I brought in. Both had fire hose like sleeves on them, and so much oil was coming out of the cut it flooded the inside of the cover and made it look like the end of the hose was leaking. All fixed now, brought the tractor back down to the garage and used most of a can of Gunk on it. Need to hose that off this morning, then put the protective covers back on. Before I do any more land clearing, I want to make up some stout sheet steel covers for underneath to keep any more damage to a minimum. Used a new Makita socket wrench yesterday to put the tractor fender back on. Must have been two dozen nuts and bolts holding that thing on.

Ran a couple batches of beef jerky through the dehydrator yesterday afternoon, too. For some reason the flavors of my usual marinades (chipotle Cholula and Mr. Yoshida's Original Gourmet Sweet and Savory Marinade and Cooking Sauce) didn't come through very strong, even though the beef marinaded for three days. Maybe the fridge was too cold? Shot the grids with PAM before loading them, though, and this time the jerky came off easily. The Yoshida's acts like glue due to the sugar.

Social Security says I've been approved for Medicare now, but the fella I spoke with at Medicare could find no record of that. Left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.

Picked up a nice looking pair of New York Strip steaks for dinner, and a pair of burritos for breakfast tomorrow morning. That should get the trip started on the right foot.

Was up opening the windows to let some air in around 4 AM and saw the moon eclipse, but thought it was just behind clouds. It wasn't a full eclipse here, at least not when I was looking.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Contacted Amazon yet?
When I have a non-responsive seller (and I've had a few), a contact to Amazon normally provides quicker results..
Now, IIRC, Chapin requests you contact them if any problems...but IMHO, you've gone above and beyond the call of duty

68°F and no rain
Great show by the moon

Scored 2 PV panels yesterday, 235w @ $80 each. Picked up 15 boxes of wood laminate flooring at Costco. Never used this before, another learning experience.
Will get last 2 pieces of ceiling Sheetrock hung and transition to walls.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Day started overcast, but now sunny and up to 85° already.
Wife picked strawberries this morning at a local pick your own, now she’s making jam.
Someone there had a portable stool that they let her try, and she liked it, so 2 are on order. Will be handy working in garden.

Later after work I need to mow the hill and along creek. When I’m in a hurry I mow as far as you can see from the house, and leave the backside for later.
My son is having issues with USPS not delivering Amazon stuff to his new Apt. UPS and fedex, leave stuff, USPS says his mailbox is full, and won’t leave the chair they are supposed to deliver. Not that it could remotely fit in a mailbox. Mail box is right next to his Apt. not sure why Amazon shipped a chair and bed frames via USPS. He works from home, left the front door open so they could tell he was home.

Back to the salt mine.

Contacted Amazon yet?

No - for a couple of reasons:

1. I could contact Amazon and request a replacement product ... but there's no telling how many of them are out there in the distribution chain that may have similar (or worse) problems.

2. If I did the above, then I'm obligated to haul the original one over to Kohl's and drop it off for return. If I get a second bad one then I get the joy of doing that again ... and problem would still not resolved.

When I have a non-responsive seller (and I've had a few), a contact to Amazon normally provides quicker results.

Yeah - typically, that's what I would do as well.

Now, IIRC, Chapin requests you contact them if any problems...but IMHO, you've gone above and beyond the call of duty

Yes ... I have.

I have just spent 15 minutes (now 20) on hold with Chapin CS ... so I could ask them to transfer me to their shipping department ... because CS doesn't have access to any shipping info.

Original estimated wait time was 7 minutes ... it took 15 to reach a rep.

Current estimated wait time to speak to shipping is 7 minutes ... and has been for the last 5 minutes.

Shipping department lady I spoke to confirmed that they did get the part in I need (hopper frame) and that it will ship today and I should have it by the end of the week.

Now, we'll see if that actually happens.

Today was a RED letter day As in S is for strawberry. Yep we had our first local strawberries. Yummm. Our blueberries and raspberries are looking good if we can keep the bugs and critters from getting them.

We had 1/4 inch of unexpected rain yesterday. We may get a little more this afternoon. I noticed that the back lawn needs to be mowed so naturally it is supposed to hit 90F this afternoon.

Chris

And to think how much time I spend trying to get the wild strawberries out of my lawn :)
When I was younger (much), we would pick the wild strawberries to make into pie and Jam.

Chris enjoy the strawberries, bet they are 1000 times better than store bought.

Waiting for my Blackberries and Blueberries. I leave the wild Raspberries for the wild life, though they are not too bad to eat.
