Kyle. Finnly is doing some mighty nice art work there. Tell her to keep practicing.
You just know RNG has something already figured out...
Well, Drew, the house is stucco over a wire mesh that acts as a Faraday cage that would more or less stop any North Korean EMP. And the old motorcycle I'm restoring has a dynamo and points, so it'll run after the apocalypse. But since I'm no prepper, I'll be SOL like everybody else when it comes to Diesel fuel and finding something to eat.

53 right now...high in the low 70's.
Plans are to do everything I put off last week...dump run, haircut and pick up that Ruger American Ranch rifle. I'm hoping to get to my buddy's camp to sight the rifle in, but he was pretty sick yesterday and might not be available.
Also, it's mowing time today, I think...I'll need to get some fuel too.
Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 9:45AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny/Wind. High 78F. Winds NNE at 20 to 30 mph.
Containment numbers continue to rise on the local fires, nearing the 80% level. Hopefully this weekend's winds don't cause a setback, or worse, new starts. Red Flags up again today, Fire Warning tomorrow.
One of the big CH-47 Chinook helicopters flown by our National Guard just came over. Heard it from a long way off and was able to get a peek, not quite low enough to see the pilot. They've painted them flat black for some reason, maybe for night ops? But it's good to see the extra help being made available to us.
Decided to replace all the wheel bearings on the old bike, and my usual local supplier wanted $32 a pop. Made a few phone calls and found the exact same bearing for $19, but it had to be ordered for pick up on Wednesday. I'm in no hurry, but I have to wonder if it'll be the correct bearing at that price.
Same old story at the mechanic's, with lots of bustle and fuss, but not much done. Heard from one of the helpers that an inspector from the state had visited to address complaints from three other customers for work that was over two years old and still not completed. So when I arrived there were three new-to-me vehicles in the shop being worked on, which explains the lack of activity on my van. It was the usual comedy of errors watching that work, too, as parts that had been delivered or previously taken off couldn't be found, arguments took place about what should be done when, and simple things like spare gas or common sheet metal screws had to be brought in with quick trips to the store that turned into hour long scavenger hunts. I had trouble getting my work done because pieces were missing from newly delivered parts and I had to scrounge for electrical tape and solder. Didn't finish, leaving me somewhat frustrated, and at 9PM last night I started a conversation with the mechanic about how things had gone the last two weeks. He admitted to being frustrated at the lack of progress, which was nowhere near what he had envisioned during our conversation about deadlines two weeks ago. And also to being embarrassed by the inspector's visits, which he had tried to hide from me. I told him I'd only mentioned these things in an effort to try to find a way to do something different that would start getting the work done, and it ends up that I'll be taking over the electrical wiring of the engine and all the various sensors and actuators, including the cruise control components. Neither of us have been very happy with the slipshod work of the helper that usually does that kind of thing. I think I'll need far less direction from the mechanic in getting it done, and will be using my own tools and supplies to minimize the scavenger hunt issues. On his part he said he'd be working to finish the mechanical installations of the engine components this weekend, but wasn't sure if his wife's plans would actually let that happen. So I'll go in a few days next week and see what gets done, but view the whole exercise as a last ditch effort. I'm just out of things to try to resolve the situation, and I'm beyond out of time and patience to continue dealing with all the problems.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
