Actually it does. The places with the most infections are mutating.

Just a little bit more on that.

Not only are the places with most infections mutating, but the more infections there are, the more opportunities there are for more unique mutations.

So the long-term focus really needs to be on reducing the size of (if not eliminating) the pool in which those mutations take place.

Smaller pool = less opportunities for mutations = less chance of the virus becoming more transmissible and/or more lethal ... or less amenable to being controlled/prevented/ameliorated by a vaccine.

It isn't enough to just vaccinate the US ... we have to vaccinate the entire world.

And the sooner the better.

Yes - while the overall effectiveness is actually lower than the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, it appears that J and J product is better at preventing cases from becoming severe, requiring hospitalization, leading to deaths, etc. It is less effective with the South African variant.

So you might get the virus and get symptoms but they should not be severe for most folks.

I'm sure that's welcome news.

How is she doing now ?

Better I hope.

Perhaps the J and J vaccine might be more well tolerated by her ?

I understand it is quite a bit different than the Pfizer or Moderna.
Shes doing better since I got her to take some excedrin migraine. Which I think the vaccine triggered one.

She's back to the land of the living. I bet someone will learn some new language though if they try to give her another dose of Moderna.

I'll be waiting for reports on the J&J vaccine before I get vaccinated.

The category I fall into is not due to be eligible for 3 more months. I could push it since I'm on an immuno-suppresant, but think there are people out there that need it worse then I do.

I've done a good job of avoiding the virus. Even with the amount of traveling I do for work. My wifes done a good job avoiding it as well, even with working with covid patients.

Little Fire Ant class was interesting. Looks like we’ll use a bait type treatment using Amdro and Tango. The LFAs have been in the neighborhood a few years, but the ones at cottage are 1st to be found on our property.

Coax adapters arrived in mail. Got them installed this afternoon and loaded Verizon sim into the MoFI. Had to make some setting changes. Get a very strong Band 13 signal, stronger than my AT&T band 12, but internet quality not nearly as got, long pings near 200 and speeds less than 10mbps. Will play with settings this weekend and maybe talk with tech support, but first glance definitely not enticing to upgrade.

Made a quick trip to HD to get items for the water heater electric.

good morning all. Another cold sunny day before the snow starts Sunday afternoon.
Now they are back up to 11 inches in the forecast.
I'm hoping Monday afternoon I can sneak out and got to local small bridge over Delaware and get some pictures of snow coming down over the River.

all my muffins turned out well this time. Have three plates of them wrapped up and will deliver this morning.
Mom, it's the Muffin Man!

David, I was pretty consistent in killing 90 percent of the fire ants, about ten percent of the time another hive would pop
up two days later about 5 feet away. Pretty sure that is due to existing underground passages.
I used as little of those chemicals as possible, but it's a war and those ants will win if you do nothing.
Just be careful with your pets and applying fire ant poison. Hopefully it tastes really bad to them.

Mostly, my five years is about up and I'm due in for colonoscopy too. Am going to investigate the mail in test.
I've had 'rhoids for a long time and I always wonder if the discomfort has now changed, something new?
My wife died from that so not ignoring pains in the behind was a real lesson for me.

one month into the new year already.

Good morning, the temperature is -9°F and going up to 9. Wind N 3 mph. Sunny.
We are into a warming trend, by next Thursday we will see 32F.

Too cold to do anything outside, so I will stay in and conserve energy.

Stay safe all

Good morning all. A bit wild outside here, a strong easterly breeze is running across a collision of warm and cold air, making the clouds unsure if they want to drop snow or rain on us. That indecision made for a chilly time slipping and sliding across fields, though nothing better than having face slapped by sleet to work up an appetite for a good helping of porridge.

Good news is that the cormorant must have left a few fish behind the other day. Bad news is that I only know that because 2 of them were raiding the big pond this morning.

...It isn't enough to just vaccinate the US ... we have to vaccinate the entire world.

And the sooner the better.
Well said

...and speeds less than 10mbps.
David, wow, are you suggesting the internet can actually run faster than 10mbps ? I can't imagine such dizzy speeds, my brain would surely explode if I didn't keep seeing all those soothing gravity challenged tiny balls spinning in a circle to calm me down, or all those opportunities to reflect on the day while waiting for "buffering" to finish.

Hot coffee has been poured into cup. 1° with clear skies this morning. Heading 29° with cloudy skies. Got grocery shopping. Picked up 200 lbs of bird seed at Menards. Got it unloaded in put in storage containers. Sure like 20 lbs bags instead of 40 lbs. Spent rest of the relaxing in warm house. Little house cleaning today and reminiscing with my aunt. Front windowed room got to almost 90° yesterday afternoon. Opened door from there to Livingroom to give furnace a break.
Michigan Covid cases 608,612. Deaths 15,410. Oakland county cases 70,269. Deaths 1,889. Death per day for whole state have been less than 20. But they go back to death certificates and look to see if person had been tested positive for Covid within 4 weeks of dying. They are counted as a Covid death. Regardless how the person died. Those counts add over 100 to the death count some days.
