Ken, thanks for the offer. I'll let you know if I have something to burn it in.
Rick, yes, it was moved about thirty feet away closer to the house.

bought a ready made "kit" on sale for a round roast and veggies/potatoes for the instapot.
Going to add some extra red potatoes I bought today as well as a few more onions and a big yellow pepper.
Time to fire that up. I need to get some cheap blended red wine to cook with.
That means a trip to the PA wine store tomorrow.

It was somewhat common for outhouses to "mysteriously" move themselves a few feet backwards .. during the night.

We still have our original well pump at our farmhouse. Should be 100 years old. Still works...couple of pumps and you can get ice cold clean water.
Sadly...the handle is from an old broom. Not my doing....previous owners.

You can see part of it in this picture...lower right. I laid the flagstone around it a long while back. 20200920_124526.jpeg

The raised bed garden looked pathetic with the snow mashing it down, but under the snow it produced a nice weekly harvest.

The only place there was ice on the road was on the two bridges but they had been sanded and if you stay in the tracks it was good.

Ron, great news you are on a list. I'm still trying but no one is opening up their list in this county.

That's about the only thing left at my Grandparents' farm. After my Grandfather died, my Grandmother stayed there for about another 10 years, with a neighbor working the fields. She eventually sold them the land and moved into a nearby town. They tore down pretty much everything except the relatively new metal machine shed where the tractor and truck were always parked. There are half a dozen grain silos where the house and barn used to be. But, the well is still there, with the same hand pump. So is the little pond where I learned to fish, and developed my life-long love of bluegill.

I went on primary care Dr portal. Which is tied to several major hospitals in metro Detroit. Today was first day that anyone over 65 can get vaccine. Filled out the questionnaire. Was offered several different places to get the shot. I chose the one closest to me. There were places that were offering sooner appointments but I did not want to drive that far.

Good memories, kind of sad, though. Better than what they do around here. A lot of the farms are now commercial plaza's and suburbia.

The lot across the street from us, the only things left are the stone house foundation and a well pump. Same as mine, with a handle. Otherwise it is all gone, burned down long ago. Around 60 years ago we think. My neighbor now farms the land. No more people or families any time into the near future. I am sure the house and well had some stories to tell.

Good morning from Queensland.
Rain appears to be gone for now. 31 deg C expected today rising to 37 deg C on Friday. Clear sky.
Managed to mow a few acres yesterday with a few more to go. Had to stop as a coolant hose started leaking. Fixed temporary until I can get a new one. Lasted well at 14 coming 15 years.

Just got my call from TEXAS DSHS and scheduled to get my first COVID Vaccine at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Columbus. That's one week from getting on list to vaccination.

It's totally drive thru .. and they will schedule my second vaccination while I'm there.

Ouch... another hit to start the New Year. The Drain Field Drama. Looks like the surveys and/or plat information is lacking at the court house. Is what happens in 100 years of ownership and "verbal descriptions".

So, now it looks like I have to get a partial site survey for the drain field/ house/ barn and various out buildings. $$$$

Yes thanks. Those appear spot on. Beats an old broom handle.

Now you just need to determine proper spacing between the handle pivot and the rod hanger. That dimension will effect stroke length. Is your old handle just broken off or totally missing .. can't tell from your picture.

Looks like it is cleanly missing.

We've been lucky with covid here. Only new cases are travellers from overseas that bring it with them. They have to go into quarrantine for 2 weeks on arrival and that's where it shows up.
They act quick with lockdowns and tracing if there is a case. Life is pretty much normal here.

I’ve always had indoor plumbing, but growing up, we lived in Berks county, close to the Lancaster county line. Our neighbors were Amish farmers, and they had neither electricity or indoor plumbing other than a hand pump in the kitchen. I still remember the smell of bread baking in the wood in their kitchen. They had an outhouse attached to the back porch, so you could stay out of the weather.

On my son’s lot adjacent to me there is still two dug wells with functional hand pumps. One is out in a field, the other is just outside the house.

I did go out and get Kerosene for the heater in the hangar today, it was $3.30 a gallon. The closer, cheaper place hasn’t fixed their pump yet. It’s been down for a couple of weeks.

I made about a dozen calls today, no luck in finding a vaccination list to get on. Texas should learn from Michigan on how to do it.

Thanks for the link. My mom has her pump in the garden (yard art) missing a handle. Rip, If you figure out how to measure for the right handle let me know.

Step one would be to determine what the rod hanger end should be. Single or dual ears?
