No work on the transmission yesterday, instead made tools for working on friend's final drive housing. He learned that steel takes a lot more time to drill and bore than aluminum, and I need to start looking for a boring bar that holds indexable cutters.

I have had good luck finding high quality tools like Kennametal at shows and tool flea markets, but have also used Shars when I need something.

Search results for: 'Boring bar'

21 going to 48 today, heavy frost and some ice fog this morning.

I was around 7 when we first had a bathroom, we had indoor plumbing before that, a hand pump on the kitchen sink. We had a honey jar with a lid in the bedrooms for nighttime emergencies. That was fun to dump and wash out every morning. We burned coal, wood and kerosene. It took it all to keep that old farmhouse warm enough to live in. When I was about 10 we moved to Chesapeake, VA to be closer to his work at the Ford plant. Our new house, which was about 30 years old, had an oil furnace, two bathrooms, an upstairs sunroom and bedrooms for all. I thought we had moved into the Crystal Palace.

24° going to near 40.

Used an outhouse in my early yrs. recall seeing pictures of ours, don’t recall having a copy in my collection. Recall peeing off the porch, especially at night. Then dad built his existing house with indoor plumbing. Grandparents had no indoor plumbing and used outhouse up till they passed around 1988. Got a pic of that one somewhere.

Haven’t bought kerosene in years, got a jug just for it, and a heater not used in years.

Need to get going, slow start means stay at work late.

I guess My brother did get to the tree cutting party while the tree guy was hanging by ropes cutting the tree limb over the house. He got a drone video, but was too far up to see much action.

Good morning! 33˚F all night long makes for a very slow melt. We still have plenty of snow on the grass but the street snow has melted. All schools are closed for a snow day - not, because of the covid they still have to log in. The city and the neighborhood facilities are closed till noon. Wife still has her ZOOM Spanish class and I need to get some kale and broccoli from the garden.

The metal rods for the clothes dryer moister control came in and I installed them and that was the problem, dryer is fixed. The old ones were not conducting the current in the space between them and the dryer was thinking the clothes were dry when they were not. Finding the right u-tube took more time than the fix.

My Mothers parents had an outhouse and my father parents had indoor plumbing. Guess which ones saw the grandkids more.

Wrong, the outhouse grandparents also had a horse and later a minibike.

this would make a fun separate thread, but have any outhouse pictures?
this was before ours got rehabbed, came back with a door, all fixed with a moon crescent on it, and my father used it to store garden tools.

Hope he moved it from above the "pit" before the rehab Drew.

25°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 37° today. Shooting up into the mid-50s this week, before dropping back to the 30s for the weekend.

Weekend was cold a dreary here, with some occasional snow flurries. Got nothing done outside the house, but then there wasn't much to do anyway.

Happy (belated) birthday, RS.

My Mother grew up in an old farmhouse with no indoor plumbing. I remember my Grandparents' old house and outhouse from the early '70s. Kitchen was "out back," and had a wood stove. There was a fireplace in the center of the house for heat, and the outhouse was a long cold walk. The house was in a serious state of disrepair, and they eventually bought a single wide mobile home and placed it between the house and the outhouse. The old house was just used for storage after that. It was the first time they'd ever had indoor plumbing. No more carrying water from the well. I didn't miss the outhouse at all.

Ken, thanks for the offer. I'll let you know if I have something to burn it in.
Rick, yes, it was moved about thirty feet away closer to the house.

bought a ready made "kit" on sale for a round roast and veggies/potatoes for the instapot.
Going to add some extra red potatoes I bought today as well as a few more onions and a big yellow pepper.
Time to fire that up. I need to get some cheap blended red wine to cook with.
That means a trip to the PA wine store tomorrow.

Good morning. It was 33° (feels like 26°) this morning and forecast is 41° this afternoon. The snow line .. got close to us last evening but, all we ended up with was a bit of sleet.

Haven't checked rain gauges yet but .. we'd had a bit over 1" by noon yesterday so guessing total of 1 1/2-2".

It supposed to be 27° here, in the morning .. qthen a steady warmup over following 10 days or so.

Today will be more shop time and continue working on reorganizing quarters. Tractors and even Polaris will stay on ranch roads and driveways for at least a day or two. We had a severely dry fall / early winter but, almost 5" of rain over last two weeks making pastures "squishy".

My grandparent's ranch house, in the 1950's, had water to the kitchen sink (hand pump) but no bathrooms. At that time the outhouse was it and chamber pots for winter nights. They did an update in the early 1960's and I still have that hand pump, and the larger one that was outside, in the shop. Eventually they will be refurbished / powder coated .. for some "garden art".

Hope everyone has a great start to your week.

Prayers to all.
