Good morning!!!!

Look at it this way: If it's cold, you can pile on more layers of clothing, but when it's hot, you can take everything off (there's a suggestion for you) and still be uncomfortably hot.....

Nope. Too many layers of clothes, and I get claustrophobic. And it doesn't take much to be too many layers.

With a pair of shorts and a tank top, I can survive most of the summer heat. And can use the fireplace to keep the house warm enough in the winter, that I can wear sweat bottoms and a tank top indoors, during the winter. But, working outdoors, or in barns, one has to put on those darn layers. Sometimes, I think I look and feel like the Michelin Man!

I often look the Michelin Man myself, not seasonal though! :D

Mowed the back yard after supper. Let Mocha, our chocolate lab, run free while I did the mowing. She had a large time running in the front yard, but soon she was back in her fence walking beside me as I mowed.

We cut the banana cantaloupe. It was good, but could have gone a couple more days. After eating all I could hold, there was still most of a gallon left. The best part though, was all the seeds. I was working with 13 seeds this year. Next year I will have quite a few more.

Pretty much same as yesterday: 59 now, high of 90 predicted.
We did have a very refreshing rain shower about 1800 last evening.

Wife's daughter and family are here from Washington State...

Up and atem at 0525.

I need to go fix the LX266 JD riding mower.

Somehow the metal dual pulley that runs the blade and connects the PTO belt managed to get broke such the belt fell off...

So I will spend half a day at Mossflower...

Be well all,
David

David,
that pulley may be held on by something that vibrated loose/out and it just fell off.
Unless the bearings failed and the whole thing went south.
Luckily not too expensive to fix. good luck with it.
maybe if you sweat enough on it it will fix itself...

went downstairs for my first cup of coffee and it was 80 degrees out already. Yuk.
I was going to look at motorhomes today but it's just too hot.
let's see, bills are paid, lawn is mowed, garden is picked, what can I do today to get in trouble?
maybe I'll work in the garage today organizing tools, which because I have multiple locations (a remote farm) I have multiple
tool boxes and the wrong stuff gets in them and I wind up always looking for something that is somewhere else... I'm sure this sounds familiar
to some.

The owner of the farm I tend is putting a new apartment in on the second floor of where I store all my equipment. That means everything had to come out, some made it into the main barn, but both my tractors are sitting outside, plows, whatever, covered but rusting away. Drives me nuts, I hate rust.
The new concrete floor is in, but of course the contractors stored all their stuff in "my" space, so I'm still outside. About once a month I've gone through with a can of WD40 or equiv and sprayed away on the outdoor equipment, and that seems to help.

Well, it will be nice parking on concrete when they are all done. Apparently the owners aren't going to live in the apartment for awhile, so hopefully I'll have my storage space for awhile longer. If not, I have to move. I've wanted my own place for years now, can afford it, ready to move, but with a sick wife and an elderly MIL nearby, I'm stuck. simply have to make the best of things, but I constantly think of what fun this work and sweat would be if it were my own place. Soon, must be patient. I've been living in suburbia for sixteen years, and oh do I miss the fields, the woods, everything I am used to, and grew up with. I'll get there, likely in southern VA or northern NC, plenty of TBN'ers down that way to guide me to the right place.

Everyone once in a while I bring my equipment trailer home to the house, with some kind of farm equipment on it, to work on, and the neighbors just look and are utterly puzzled. I think some have never seen a plow before. :D

stay cool and safe today.

btw, nice melon Larry. And FarmGirl, will you please stop talking about peeling off your clothes. you've got dozens of us reaching for our heart medicine in anticipation, haven't had this much excitement in years! :D

...

Drew,

Actually about 1/3 of the edge of the pully groove that holds the PTO belt just cracked and fell off. I have pix on my phone the wife sent me, but I will take real pix when I get there.

Close as I get to seat time anymore...

I need to send them away for a weekend so I can work on the place...

Be well & God Bless,
David

plain metal fatigue then, strange. Wonder if it was out of alignment. Never had a pulley break on me, plenty of bearings wear out.
Since I have almost the same mower, LX280, I'm kinda curious about this. How many hours on that mower?

at least you are just swapping parts and not scratching your head as to what to do next.

Same here sir.

I asked if she had crashed the mower... It stinks being in exile and not knowing what is going on. I cannot imagine how this happened.

Just 13 months ago I had the deck off and got it welded, the pulley should be visible in this shot...

I believe the mower is from 2003 or so. I need to check the houlrs but less than 300 I'll bet.

I will know more later today.

Be well,
God Bless.
David

PS - Consider moving to my area, near Ladysmith, VA. I'd love to have you as a neighbor...

Drew,

Be well,
David

0605. Clear 73 with 93% humidity. Forecast for a high of 86, 70% chance of thundershowers, some heavy. I noticed the light behind the blinds had a red hue this morning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.

Drew, this is my first go round with the banana cantaloupes, but my 85 year old mamma tells me my grandfather used to grow them when she was a girl. My wife works in the Courthouse, and a retired road department fellow had brought some seeds to another lady. He gave Margie a pinch of them. It was 13 seeds. 11 or 12 of the thirteen came up. If we don't have such a cold spring, I will get them in the ground sooner next year. The heat and rain of dog days all playing h**l with the vines.

Got another full weekend at work. I go in early today [1300] to let the boss lady start her weekend early, and to get me a couple extra hours. Bug man is scheduled between 8 and 12 this morning. Hope he isn't late and make me late for work. Everyone have a good one.

Check the pulley, most of them from around 2000 and newer are Chinese/Indian/Korean and not worth squat!

80.8 now, going close to 100 again today. Bought a Gilson 16 with hydraulic lift dozer blade yesterday on a whim, neat little rig. Has Vari Speed tranny. For $200 I figure if nothing else it'll be a good snow mover.

good morning, no rain and the temps are going down mid 80's for next few days but lot's of rain expected for the weekend. everyone have a great day.

Drinking Iced coffee again. 73° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 90° with strong thunderstorms coming threw when cold front makes it here late this afternoon. May cut grass early this morning.
Good Morning All.

Good Morning! 73˚ heading to the high nineties with partly cloudy skies. The heat and sunshine are back after of 1/2 week of cooler temps and rain (3.7"). The low pressure system on/near Texas did a fine job.

The county has finished chopping and clearing their side of the fence and they have done an outstanding job. I was expected ragged trees and half chopped bushes but they did a neat job and even took out the old fence. They had a JD with a grapple and put all the cut brush on the neighbor's property. The pile is the size of 2 RVs. This is putting pressure on me to clean up my side of the fence. The barbed wire will now be holding the cattle in instead of the brush.
