Good Morning All.

What is this heat wave like? How bad is it? Temps? Is there a lot of air conditioning or not so much because it's normally not needed? What do people do to stay cool?
The temperature has been between 23-27*C (73-81*F) for the past week.

People don't really use Air Conditioning systems in their homes here (opening windows is sufficient most of the time) but the A/C in vehicles is getting well used!!

I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but the fuel prices around here have jumped up a few Pence a litre since the good weather began - probably because they know that people will be using their Air Conditioning and as such using more fuel. Anything for a quick Buck, eh?

Jmurray01, I could very easily cope with a temperature range of 73-81 degrees F if the humidity level was reasonable. It's really humid here locally and the temperature got near 100 degrees in the shade yesterday afternoon and with the sun beating down....I quit working outdoors at about noon and stayed inside until about 7 pm then went back out to do more mowing. When the heat gets this extreme I always wonder how people in the south coped with life before they invented air conditioning. Heat seems to bother me more now than it did when I was younger, probably because I have more insulation...

Another hot day just finished breakfast no coffee, 26C the low for the night going to 33C with humidity feels like 44C, Heading out to Habitat for Humanity today. We are doing a removal for our retail resell store, hope this place has AC but it is a whole house renovation so it may not. have a good one and for those in the heat stay cool and for those with good weather enjoy.

I think when you are active and out in it all of the time, you acclimate more. We really have bocome spoiled to our modern conveniences. (Yes, myself included here!)

If one was used to being in the fields all day, being under a tree's shade, with a breeze was almost like A/C. Kitchens were not placed in the center of the house, and were sometimes separated by a breeeway, so it would not heat the rest of the house further, when meals were cooked.

I can handle the heat, fairly well, even in the barns, but cold, that sends me looking for a warm fire in the fireplace!

97 yesterday, 96 predicted today, but so far I've made out OK. When I was young I use to like to play baseball on days like this, my friends all complained it was too hot. I really didn't understand how it could be too hot for baseball, it truly didn't bother me. As I get older I understand.

Nothing anyone can say about the heat! It is 79 degrees F right now and heading to the mid 90痴. I was out working on the gardens this morning at daybreak and it was hot and sticky. Deer flies are enjoying the heat for sure I have the bites to prove that.
Hading north later today and my son and I are going to do a roofing job on one of our camp buildings, we seem to always pick the hottest week to do roofing, go figure!

84 now already, going to 99, 100 tomorrow, yuk.
I'm waiting for the electric company to conk out.
Plus an air quality alert. Actually when it gets really hot, those electric companies truly add to the
air pollution, because they fire up their last in line turbine generators that pump out yellow brown smoke like the jets of
thirty years ago. If one drives up the NJ turnpike on a very hot day, approaching Newark, one can see the yellow brown color
everywhere. Pratt & Whitney's finest, but they do produce the juice.

going out to mow the lawn this morning, then will likely stay inside all day, try to get some projects done here. If I open the pantry door and put a fan in the doorway
to the garage, I can actually cool off my garage fairly well, and working out there when it's a zillion degrees out is a real pleasure. Time to change the plugs on the lawnmower and maybe
sharpen the blades.

my wife has gone to visit with her mom, so I am home alone for a few days, ahhh, peace and quiet, no tv's blaring.

good morning its 73 and humid with a chance of showers today.its getting up to 90 again today.

/ Good morning!!!! #12,451
I jotted down clear, 75 with 91% humidity as I booted up. Got a cup of coffee and read the last few posts on the thread, and it has already changed to 77 with 89% humidity. Forecast is for 93 and a 20% chance of rain. We got out right at sunset yesterday to pick the peppers. So hot and muggy we were soaked by the time we finished with thirty two pepper plants. Anyone working outside today stay safe.

Repeat of yesterday in this area. Here - hazy, hot, humid, heat indexes pushing past 101.

Fingers crossed for me, lots of inspections today. Tax person ALREADY came out. I am finding more issues with my county and records department. But that is for another post....

Have a good day all! Stay cool. Oh, had to return an AC/heat unit last night. Didn't work out of the box, MD and VA are out of them, no more stock. Had to take a floor model with discount. Amazing, out of stock, and I noticed patio furniture was moving out of stock as well. Crazy cycle stores keep.

Look at it this way: If it's cold, you can pile on more layers of clothing, but when it's hot, you can take everything off (there's a suggestion for you) and still be uncomfortably hot.....

Doesn't stop you trying though, does it Bill?

mowed the lawn late this morning, came in feeling overheated and light headed from the heat, plus wearing the stupid collar, and
took it off, drank my favorite diet peach Snapple, had some lunch, a small bowl of ice cream for some energy, and felt all better. Pretty nasty out there.
So the afternoon will be spent inside.

and as far as a warm fire in the fireplace, let me be the first, sorry guys..:D., to invite you to sit in front of my fireplace.
Nothing like the a/c going and a warm fire.

When it's this hot and humid, I have found that I can work outside from daybreak to maybe 10 AM and then take a nap or work inside from that time until maybe 4 PM. Then I can head outside again and have a collectively full day around the place working outside without being exhausted in the process. Works for me and that's what is on tap for today.

Forgot to log in this morning. I was up until 1am watching "The Hobbit." What a beautiful movie... So at 5:30 I wok up and went back to bed for another hour.

Wife just alerted me that on the LX266 the pulley on the 42C deck (the one to power the mower blades) broke and the mower blades won't spin.

Seems I get to go out to my property to fix the mower again...

Be well all.

PS - I will be in St Louis Monday/Tuesday again (Flying home Tue evening).

Be well & God Bless,
David

I have never grown banana cantaloupes before, so not sure if this one is ripe or not. The color has changed and it thumps different, so I went ahead and clipped it. It weighs 8.4 lbs. We will cut it tonight.

Everyone has seen cukes growing on a fence, but have any of you ever seen melons grown that way? We will see how long until certain laws [like gravity] take over.

Mowed the front yard. Thought about the back yard, but it is hot as Hades out there. 90 with a heat index of 103. The back yard will have to wait until later.
