forgot to post these earlier. Local tourist train came through on Christmas Day, running on coal it appears.
I think the whole trip is 9 miles, train has been here longer than most of us. New Hope to Ivyland PA.
Now they run diesel during the summer to prevent brush fires from sparks.
I haven't been on this train in 30 years.

Thanks for sharing those photos, Drew. When I opened the first photo and saw only the engine, coal car, and caboose, I chuckled to myself thinking "that's a pretty short train!" Then I opened the other photo and saw the other end of the train. How many passenger cars were there?

And welcome to the Makita electric chain saw club. Something of a second Christmas after finding it intact, if only a little damp.

either two or three. That's why I included the second picture, thought it looked funny too
that train has set a lot of the local fields on fire during the summer and is not loved by all.
Plus because it's a tourist train they blow their horn all the time. My brother's son lives on a farm near the tracks
outside of Lahaska and he gets affected by the horn blowing. Thankfully the train doesn't go out very much.
But when it does, it's like they are making very sure you knew it went by.

We are assessing new cell phone services, to see if there are better deals.

Let me know what you find.
I also need two new phones, I have the old apple SE and my wife's is even an older apple. I like the size and price of the new SE.

Trains run up and down the Feather River Canyon, and it traverses a trestle/tunnel combo not far from here. Wasn't much of an issue until the Camp Fire took out most of the trees between me and it, and now I can hear the rumbling of the engines and sometimes even the squeals and clicks from the rails and wheels. Sometimes they'll blow their horns as they emerge from the tunnel onto the trestle or vice versa, as folks have been known to "play" on them. Fortunately that doesn't happen very often at night, as the train runs through there all hours. I've never seen passenger cars on it, but it would be quite a trip as it crosses many famous trestles and clings to the side of the canyon above the river. And apparently there have been charters in the past. Gonna have to look into that once this CoVid thing passes.

Me three. I also like the size of the new Mini, but the price, not so much! But it's the least expensive iPhone with 5G radios, and the new SE just doesn't make any sense from that standpoint. A battery kit arrived yesterday for my old SE, which I'm hoping will buy me enough time to let the prices on the new iPhones come down a bit.

Disappointing to hear from our Governor that 60% of nursing home staffs have elected not to take the COVID vaccine.

That just seems crazy to me. There have been some truly heart breaking stories about the virus getting into nursing homes. You would think that the staffs would want to do everything they can to avoid that stuff.

Drew, We share a driveway with another house. From time to time my packages would end up over there. I printed up a couple of signs with the house number using the largest font I could fit on the page and taped them to the inside of the storm door. One on the front door and one on the garage door. It seems to have helped. No missing packages this year.

I heard an interview with Dr. Fauchi yesterday. He thinks we will may be able to return to normal by fall. It seems like these timelines keep slipping later and later all the time. Remember when this junk was supposed to be over by the end of July?

There's always a small percentage of folks who for religious reasons won't get vaccinated.
I'm ok with that, unless your job brings you in close personal contact with high risk patients,
as do most docs and nurses and EMTs I know. This whole medical topic gets politicized very rapidly
so we have to be careful here. And then there are some mindless "I don't wanna's" who basically have some
control issues and who bask in public attention. Bottom line here is this is medical, not politics and I think an ok
topic here if we trod gently.

But it's so not cool to so many folks, including that incoming Congressman who just died
from Covid. Many if not most of us now know someone who has died from Covid or whose health has been damaged.

One could never take good health for granted in the past, and I'm even surer of that in the future. Takes us too long to prepare a good defense
for these biological enemies, and until the war is won, lot of innocents die. So knowing the importance of this, taking some reasonable precautions
on an ongoing basis sure makes sense to me.

I have heard from local medical folk that initial vaccine reaction so far are sore arms and some rashes. Nothing bad.

would be interesting to hear from life insurance industry as to morbidity this past year.
Maybe flu deaths went down...
Reasonable double check on media hype, facts over fiction.
Lot of companies pay for this information, might not get released tomorrow.
New year brings lots of prior year stats to compare.

grey and nasty out, time for another bird seed run. Plus I got some new loppers in that I want
to use on some bushes near the driveway that need a haircut in spots where they stick out into road
Going to be 55 on Saturday, think I might delay most of outdoor work until then.
But I need the exercise...

What is a 5G radio and why do I need it??

Frankly, I think that guy is more politician than medical doctor...I have very little trust in his comments.
Wouldn't be overly surprised if he's sued for medical malpractice one of these days...

I don’t have a work light on my new tractor, but I don’t work in the dark anymore. And If I ever got the urge to plow snow at night I can light up all 120’ of driveway like it’s daylight, so my headlights don’t even come into play.

I dump all my cat litter in the woods a long way from the house.

I’m not worried about staying up until midnight, I might get a nap in my recliner and wake up in time, or I might not. I’m not too eager to ring in the new year, but I want to be darn sure the old one leaves!

That's been a rare thing for me to see someone coughing up a storm out in public lately.

But then I've had a couple sneezing fits, but usually can get myself outside when I feel a sneezing fit coming on.

Seems people feel the need to still douse themselves in perfume before going out in public.

I happen to have an allergy to certain fragrances, and will choke up and go into a manic sneezing fit if I catch a snoot full.
