Need to pour second cup of coffee. 22ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 31ー with overcast skies. Good visit with friend yesterday. Need to to go to township offices and pay winter taxes today. Then back home to try and conserve energy. Still have not finished up taxes. Need to call Turbotax again and see if their software is at fault again.
Lots of bird pictures lately. Some birds are faster than camera.

RNG, February must be the month of shipping errors. Got a text from Amazon that a item I ordered was undeliverable. We will refund your money in 3 to 5 days. :confused3: Best of luck getting your poles in ground and properly positioned. Whats latest on your traveling generator?

David, roof frame looks strong. How many battery charges needed to for 816 screws? :ashamed:

LS. please keep your wind and snow. My son is parked in Ardmore, OK waiting for weather to clear.

Eric, I need a Sludge Sucker for something. :mur:

Drew, safe travels.

Good Morning All.

34 degrees at 5 a.m. and going for a high of 35 with a "wintery mix"; i.e. snow/sleet forecast for today. The weather is supposed to get much better after today, so it's a good day to stay inside.

58, but temps going down today, not up. Then too much rain is forecasted...more than 3 inches.

Hope it doesn't flood the creek so much that my temporary log bridge floats away. I've been waiting for the swamp to freeze so I could chainsaw and retrieve the last 10" of that tree.

I plan to do some sand digging by the real bridge this morning to open up the biggest flow channel possible...then some other pre-rain prep. I kinda wish this storm was coming in as snow...might set a record, for around here.

Hope all are on the mend.

Good Morning All.

Ron, I e-filed taxes yesterday afternoon and got the "accepted" by state and feds email about an hour later. Hope yours get straight. Nice titmouse.

Good morning! 37˚F only getting to the mid 40s and a freeze tonight.
Turbo tax said my computer was too old and this is the last year my wife's laptop can use it, then her computer will be too old also. Apple does not you update 2008 computers.

Went to the computer club meeting yesterday. It was the first club established in our neighborhood and the largest with 750 members. The introductory meeting had about 300 people attend and a power point show of all that is offered was given. Lots of good classes. They have a transfer lab that can change any type of non digital or digital media to digital on several memory devices. I'm interested in their VHS to flash drive for some old home movies. The hearing SIG is in this club also, that keeps us up to date in the digital world of hearing aids.

Perfect weather for FireWise yesterday - in the 60s. Was sore yesterday afterwards but feeling good this morning. I do need higher capacity batteries, mine are getting old and I quickly went through 5 before our 2 hour session was finished and had to switch to hand loppers.

I put together and installed the bed extender for the ranger. Youtube had a video of the exact extender and a 2019 Ranger so no surprises. I had one on my Ford SportTrack they really come in handy for these short 5' truck beds, I now have a 7' bed.

I'm getting all the dead grass mowed and removed and have used the grass catcher on the EGO mower. Slow going since I'm taking it down two levels and a lot of stopping to empty. I got the front and back and need to do the side yards today. Once a month our yard waste is picked up at the curb to be recycled and Friday is the day, I have 5 big bags so far.

28 right now and that's the high for today. Snow and mixed precipitation moving in tonight through Friday.
Good news...battery is in and worked great last night! Hopefully, there isn't a parasitic draw somewhere in the system. I reckon I'll find that out today. My neighbor's son came over to actually put the battery in place. As I'd written...it's a heavy sucker and awkward to install.
I'll get a 100 bucks for him for this and other chores...plus, he and his GF just had a baby Monday...definitely a worthy cause!

All told, we'll looking at 4-8 inches of snow....I need to get some ice melt today. 50-75 lbs ought to do it...

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 4:15AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 59F. Winds light and variable.
It was nice to see the winds finally calm yesterday afternoon after several days of blowing. Looks like a monster storm headed east; hope you all are careful dealing with the rain/snow.

Sorry to hear that the shipping mystery has made its way to you. So far, the generator has passed through Portland, Medford, came back to Chico and kept right on going to Sacramento. I wonder if the box will be plastered with travel stickers by the time it gets here?:confused3: Makes me wonder how in the world FedEx can show a profit operating like this, and I worry that all those miles will damage the generator before it even makes it here.

Don, I have two Apple laptops from 2011 that are no longer being supported, including the one I'm using to write this note. The other one has a hardware issue that Apple recalled, but Apple never notified me about it and now the recall is somehow expired, so I'd be stuck paying for the repair to continue to use the machine. That's a hard way to sell more computers...

Looks like some good progress there, David! Very interested in how it turns out, and am enjoying the progress photos.

Keep up the bird shots, Ron. Funny how fast those little critters can swap ends so quickly on you!:thumbsup:

Good to hear you're feeling better, Drew, and I hope all goes well with the awning repair.

Looking forward to the next garage build video, Ted.

Spent the morning burnin' up the phone lines yesterday. Got a call early from the steel supplier, appoligizing for the mix up, but the only solution they could offer was to send the wrong material they purchased out for galvanizing, at my expense. The civil engineer that consulted on the array design came up with a different steel, and I've gotten in touch with a different supplier to see what they can come up with.

Heard back from AT&T again, and from the technical side at least, they admit that the radio links in the copper land line infrastructure will fail during extended power outages, and they have no plans in place to mitigate that problem. Pretty much what I figured would happen. And the case manager called to say she's done all she can, and considers the case closed. I guess it's OK with them if people have no way to get emergency information or call for help during Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

A gal at FedEx admitted they mistakenly sent the generator to Seattle, but couldn't explain why. She promised to call first thing this morning with a delivery time, but as I mentioned, now it's down in Sacramento, having already passed through Chico again on its way south.

Got ahold of the propane guy, who now says the 1000 gallon tank will be in next week. I told him I need the old tank out of the way by the weekend so we can trench, and he's supposed to get back to me today on a date to pump it dry and take it away. I'll be on 5 gallon picnic bottles until the new lines and bottle are in, but I don't use much propane since I started heating with wood.

Closed the deal on the new safe, and have paint chips on the way to double check on the color. Eight to ten week delivery time, but at least I know he'll deliver it if we can't find a shipper. I'm thinkin' FedEx wouldn't be my first choice, OnTrack my second, or SAIA the third. :confused2:

Instead of fooling with string yesterday afternoon, I put the bucket back on the tractor and got a start cutting a terrace for the generator pad. Got down into some really hard clay, and it looks like I'll need to put the backhoe back on to finish. Played around with the box blade to see how it would do, but it was pretty slow going and it would skip over any rocks it came across, and there are a lot of 'em. But I was able to place the cut so only straight trenches will be needed between the propane tank and generator, and from the garage to the generator.

Finished up with a nice sunset and a couple fingers of moonshine on the back porch. Purely analgesic, of course!

Not sure what the day will bring; it's an opportunity rich environment.

And Happy Hump Day!

Good morning All. 37 and raining lightly now. Supposed to be about same all day. Yesterday we managed a dump run in between rain showers. Today will likely be mostly an energy conservation day. Enjoy the day!

33°F and cloudy this morning, pretty much staying that way most of the day. The rain/sleet/snow wintry mix stuff has finally arrived this morning, and will continue well into tomorrow. Best guess currently is 3-6" accumulation.

Got an email yesterday around 09:30 from Guitar Center notifying me that my order was ready for pickup (sorry RNG), so I stopped by on the way home. After dinner, I retired to the studio and opened the box. Spent the rest of the evening finding my way around in the menus. I even got a couple of basic guitar tones setup close to what I want. All I can say is ... wow ... I can see how this thing has been considered a game changer. Fairly easy to use, and the sounds are fantastic. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this thing.

Are you doing all that work by yourself, David, or do you have help? Looks like it's moving along nicely.

Great sunset pic, RNG.

I will be doing the same thing with the same equipment before long. I'm hoping to wait another 2 weeks, or maybe even 3, but I guess it just depends on our weather. But at least I can put it out for the garbage pick up any Monday morning.

Good morning to all! Low was a chilly 2 degrees at 6am, 12 degrees now at 8, only a high of 30 today. I guess the snow is not going away today!

At least there is no wind! Yippee! I stayed inside yesterday except for getting a bag of pellets for the stove. I was watching a forensic who dun it show on tv and that lulled me into a 1 1/2 hour nap. That sure felt good afterwards. I do not know what is causing this sleep disorder, last night again was only for an hour at a time, waking up with restlessness and tossing/ turning. I fall asleep no problem.... just will not stay asleep. I even took an OTC sleep aid .... did not help... ???

Drew, hope you have a great day getting the RV fixed and the lights sound like a great addition to the back end!

Roy, hope the battery was the only fix required. Finding those parasitic drains can be a real bugger ( I used that phrase for Eric):D

Thomas, how much snow are you expecting? Stay dry, warm and comfortable...

Wng, you too .... try to stay dry.... that is a lot of rain!

Buppies, hope you get the cleanup done quickly.

Ron, nice bird pics. I feel awful, for the last few years we always fed the birds during the winter. This year I did not get the feeders setup at the new house.

RNG, hope FedEx can get their act together.... we could start a pool guessing where it is going next? i can not believe that the steel supplier wanted you to pay for their mess up! I was reading your post to the wifey.... she said that is why we will never live in California! Seems like everything turns into a hassle in one way or another! Nice sunset picture!

David, good progress! Is your wrist sore? That was a lot of screws set! Waiting patiently for the next steps....

My son posted the next video of the garage build... the start of the framing. Here is a link... there are a couple of funny clips... he did good..

Oh, we can also, but on the one day a month it is recycled into compost instead of ending up in the landfill.

RNG have you considered galvanized fence post for the solar project?

Continue work on carport today

Prayers for all
Be safe

All good...tractor started right up and ran great!
I'm only 25-30 miles from Thomas...we're looking at somewhere between 4-9 inches, per the forecast...

OK, I misunderstood. I'm afraid we don't have that recycling option . . . HOWEVER . . . No one says anything if we put it out even several days before the Monday garbage collection day. And when I've done that, several times someone has taken it. I haven't seen them take it, but they had to have taken it for compost. I guess they know what it is by seeing the freshly mowed yard and the use of the bigger, heavy duty bags than what we use for the garbage.
